This property couldn’t be better situated for a great stay. The surrounding neighborhood is vibrant and lively but the home is just enough off the beaten path that you have a quiet spot to enjoy. Would absolutely return. Great host.
The property was located in a great location within walking distance to downtown and restaurants/bars. It was both clean and comfortable. Although the property was obviously older the price was right for what it offered.
This is a small upstairs apartment in a very old home! Went to Milwaukee to visit my daughter. Just needed a clean place to sleep in a convenient location. Nothing fancy. Worked out great for us. Great communication with owner.
We stayed here for Summerfest and it worked out great! It was a 40 min walk but Uber was also available! It was just what we needed. Communication with the host was quick and professional. We had questions upon checking in and we were able to contact the host immediately with a response. If you are concerned about street noise at night this may not be the place for you. Brady Street is very close and brings lots of noise at night. This may not always be the case but it definitely was for Summerfest weekend.
Property was clean and well located. The main problem was that VRBO sent the wrong door code. I had to call owner to get the right code to enter

Great location
The property is located in a great little neighborhood walking distance to Brady St. The upper unit is in need of tlc & lots of cleaning. We had to scrub the tub & the top of fridge before considering to stay & rough it out. The unit has very poor lighting, especially in the bathroom. The owner was very responsive to our questions & accommodated us with early check in.

Do Not Rent This Home
This home is in terrible condition; run-down, broken windows, and not secure. In addition, when we arrived it was filthy; human and dog hair in the bed, human hair in the silverware drawer and bath tub, greasy table and dusty floors. It was very obvious someone had been living there. This is probably the worst home on the block, and is definitely the worst rental we have ever had!

I do apologize for the long-windedness of the below explanation but I do want to put future stays at ease and did want to address the issues identified directly for those who would like to know more about what happened. For future stays please look at our other reviews for our lower unit to help you decide, please realize we take pride in trying to provide a unit that is clean but sometimes we make mistakes and when we do we try and rectify them when given the opportunity. Please know that our units are secure.
This was an unfortunate stay for us and therefore I feel we need to specifically address the statements made to give perspective.
First, they did not end up staying in the listing the review is posted under they actually stayed at our listing 4453351 which is the lower unit of the same duplex, so please look at reviews for the lower unit to compare.
Second, the statements about the unit are very exaggerated and not corroborated in other reviews, that we hope you read. Our unit is not run-down, it is an old Milwaukee duplex but it is not run-down. We do not have any broken windows and the lock we have on the unit is a Schlage, so the statement about security is very untrue.
Third, they state that someone was living there before their stay and were told that was not the case before posting their review, they thought this because I forgot to grab a fruit container from the fridge when cleaning, we flipped the unit the day before they arrived.
Fourth, they also stated that the unit was filthy upon arrival but didn’t communicate an issue until hours after their arrival. At which time they sent us pictures of their issues, the pictures were one hair in the shower, one hair on one of the bedsheets, one hair in a drawer, and a picture of a fruit container in the fridge. We are definitely not happy that we missed the hairs but sometimes we do miss things. When we do we try to rectify the situation immediately. In this instance, these issues were only rectifiable by the renters by a complete refund after staying a night in the unit. We fully refunded them due to how they acted and treated us and not wanting to deal with customers that were rude or unwilling to give us a chance to correct the issues. We hope you believe that these were minor mistakes that we hope to not repeat and that this review was exaggerated. We are more than willing to discuss our rental and anything else with anyone who is considering booking with us. thank you
Amazing location. We didn’t need anything fancy for our trip, mainly a place to crash at night in a good location to get to a few different places in the city. For having window A/C units, the place was very easy to cool down and stay cool during our late August trip. We also appreciated the comfy beds and good water pressure. Overall very good vibes.
We love that it’s dog friendly, but a heads up that there’s nothing to block the stairs to the front door, so we had to make shift a barricade for our dumb curious dog who hurts themselves on stairs. So if your dog doesn’t do well with stairs, just know you might have to block off that area. Also, if you’re taller than 5’7, watch your head coming up the front steps.
We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely keep this on our list of places to stay when we come back to Milwaukee. It’s truly a great location to explore the city.

Needs some maintenance
Complete transparency. Great communication was much appreciated before we checked in and during our stay. That being said, the place was not fully cleaned or maintained outside. Not sure why they charge the cleaning fee. I think pictures of the fridge showing how dirty it was on the inside. Found dirty silverware when I went to get a fork out to use. Yeah I guess these things can happen but I would pay attention to details like this! We also tripped a breaker using one air conditioner. There are 3 units within, but at the time we were only using one. We contacted the owner who did respond in a timely manner. They told us that it can happen and to try to just use the one air conditioner. We didn’t have a problem with that as it was our last night there and we were going to be gone for the evening and the temp was fairly mild. But that wasn’t what was included in the listing. We were in the upper duplex part and my husband had to go outside, locate the basement entrance and flip the breaker. That did fix the problem and we were afraid to use the air anymore as it might be a fire hazard. Also the outside needs maintained better for safety, especially at night. Overgrown bushes and weeds by stairs entering home.
Like I said, very good with communication but need to fix a few things.

The unit has 3 air conditioners and as stated in the listing only two can be run at a time due to how the wiring was set up (I am looking at rewiring options). this was communicated ahead of time as well. The breaker tripping is a sign that the system is working correctly so I want future stays to understand that this isn't a safety hazard. The stay was also informed how to access the breaker inside the unit; going outside is unnecessary if this issue occurs during your stay. The outside has been taken care of. Unfortunately, at the time of this stay my lawn care people hadn't come out yet.
After a brief hiccup checking in that was no fault of the owners themselves (and the owner was quick to respond and fix), our stay was quite enjoyable. We loved the location, found the bed to be super comfy, and had a wonderful weekend in Milwaukee!
We were very comfortable in this space in terms of the nececities available and the hominess of the apartment. It was easy to head down to the street and walk the dogs. The neighborhood was nice and in close, but not too close proximity to the action on Brady street. Would stay here again.
The duplex is charming, loved that we could walk to lots of great restaurants! We especially loved Casablanca, food was great and the atmosphere fun! Loved Kompali, great tacos! Go on Tuesday, $1 off tacos! Loved Apollo’s, great food at very reasonable prices! If you like vintage clothes, check out Bandit! For coffee/tea, Rochambo’s is wonderful and the staff super friendly and nice!
I’d stay here again!!

Needs TLC
We choice this rental as it was close to our daughters apartment. We knew it was an older property and are ok with that. The issues were about lack of maintenance. The paint was badly in need of touch up, a chair in the living room dirty, peeling paint and weeds by the entrance, broken blinds, etc. It could be really a cute place with some TLC. That being said, nothing was enough to send us packing, but would not stay again.
This stay booked an upper unit for their grandparents and then complained that it wasn't conducive for them to stay after they arrived. I fully refunded this stay when they brought this up even though all pictures and post indicated the things they indicated were an issue for them.
