A first-ever offered private, gated mountain compound where heritage craftsmanship meets elevated rustic luxury...
WELCOME to The Barnhouse at Banner Elk and Carriage House, a coveted, distinctive gated mountain newer estate where authentic old-barn character meets refined mountain luxury. Set on 6.36 peaceful acres just 10 minutes from downtown Banner Elk, this rare property offers the kind of architectural character, privacy, and space that is increasingly hard to find in the High Country.
Inspired by the original property's classic mountain barn architecture, the main Barnhouse has been thoughtfully designed & built to preserve its warmth & character, while adding modern comforts, curated finishes, and inviting gathering spaces. Paired with a separate impressive carriage house, this estate is perfectly suited for families, groups, and multi-generational stays—especially those seeking a true home feel, a cozy ski-season retreat, summer escape, or autumn's colorful transformation to golden pastures, cool breezes, and mountaintops painted in amber and rust. The estate's most coveted amenity is the hilltop firepit offering panoramic Blue Ridge mountain views and a setting that feels both luxurious and spiritually uplifting.
Pass through the gated entry and arrive at a remarkable estate of intentionally designed, one-of-a-kind homes, surrounded by tranquil pastures, exceptional landscaping, a serene koi and trout pond, manicured hiking trails, and picturesque panoramic mountain views.
The main residence features three private primary suites, including two main-level bedrooms and an upper-level primary retreat. From the moment you step inside, the great room captivates with high-end rustic-luxe architecture, including reclaimed, hand-scraped barnwood flooring, a dramatic standing-seam metal ceiling that preserves the original gambrel barn roof design, and a striking masonry stone fireplace that creates warmth and ambiance.
The heart of the home is the chef’s kitchen, showcasing custom-built cabinetry crafted from reclaimed barnwood. The adjoining dining area is anchored by an authentic chinked log cabin wall, creating an inviting space ideal for memorable meals and conversation. The kitchen and dining areas offer expansive countertops with seating, a large range with oven, an extra-large refrigerator, a spacious dining table with ample additional seating, and a walk-in pantry.
A custom timber-frame staircase leads to an office, loft area, and the upper-level primary suite. Multiple outdoor patios provide sweeping views of the property and surrounding mountains. Throughout the home, curated furnishings, conversational pieces, and antiques complement the architecture, including original site-salvaged barn doors hand-crafted from the property’s historic barnwood—an irreplaceable feature that honors the land’s heritage.
Step outside to the covered and screened porch or relax on the patio adjoining the two homes, where another dramatic stone, wood-burning fireplace creates the perfect setting for cool mountain evenings. Unwind in the hot tub beneath a canopy of stars, listen to the crackle of the fire, and enjoy peaceful mornings overlooking the trout-stocked pond.
The estate also includes a detached carriage house thoughtfully designed to mirror the main barnhouse, complete with two full upstairs suites. This additional residence is ideal for multi-family stays, extended guests, or those seeking added privacy.
Guests are invited to explore manicured hiking trails that wind through the surrounding forest, take in the views from the hilltop overlook, and enjoy the peaceful pastures and landscaped grounds.
Located just minutes from the charming town of Banner Elk, the Barnhouse places you close to celebrated dining, boutique shopping, seasonal festivals, skiing, summer concerts, and year-round outdoor adventures. Nearby destinations such as Blowing Rock, Valle Crucis, Beech Mountain, Grandfather Mountain, Sugar Mountain, Linville, and Boone further enrich the experience, offering the very best of North Carolina’s High Country.
Every season brings something special—cool summer breezes, vibrant fall foliage, winter skiing, and spring renewal—making this a destination you’ll return to again and again.
