Great place to stay
I am from the New Orleans area and know the area of this apartment quite well. It is located close to the interstate and to the Marigny, City Park, and French Quarter. Matilde was delightful and quite helpful and quick to answer all questions. The area has a lot of character.

Great place in a perfect little neighborhood!
Truly was the perfect little place in a perfect neighborhood! Where else can you have a coffee shop, several amazing restaurants, a grocery store and a country club with a swimming pool within couple blocks? We had an amazing time and our hosts were great and prompt with response with any questions. We even got to meet Gustavo and see his art studio. Fascinating guy! Truly a wonderful time!

Perfection!
Very clean and well-stocked apartment. Loved the neighborhood! Very fun and eclectic. Found the train whistle and bell tolling at the nearby church to be very comforting not at all annoying. The back yard was very pleasant and secluded. Made much use of that. All in all it was Perfection! Would definitely stay here again!

excellent experience
Property looked just like the pictures. Quiet neighborhood. Close to the French Quarter, but off the beaten path. We brought our bikes and road back and forth to the French Quarter. Friendly, helpful neighbors. Matilde responded very quickly to all of our texts. We've recommended this property to all of our friends and hope to go back.

And we loved having you!
This is a fantastic neighborhood... after so many years it keeps surprising us with new treasures, and being so close to the French Quarter is difficult not to yield to the temptation of its fantasy and music. We are very happy that you enjoyed our place. Hoping to see you soon.

The home was nice but can stand a few things like a ironing board, new shower curtain liner , paper towels & maybe Aired out when not in use ( we had to burn a candle) to get the old house smell out.

So comfortable, so pleasant, so cool!
We just returned from a week in New Orleans. This funky, little home in the Bywater was our main base. This was our second trip to New Orleans and we could easily access all areas of the city that we wanted to visit by walking, taking public transport, or even driving our own car anywhere we wished. Parking on the street right at the apartment was never an issue. At one point during the stay there was a mechanical issue with the water and Matilde and Gustavo went out of their way to get it fixed immediately. It didn't impact our stay at all! I've already recommended this property to others - and know that we will return ourselves - hopefully for two weeks! If you are looking to expand your vision, understanding and love of the city - this is the home and neighborhood in which to do so.

Charming with everything I needed
I stayed here for a couple of weeks when in NOLA for work and was really happy with the place and the neighbourhood. The apartment is laid out shotgun-style, with two high ceilinged airy rooms and a separate closet space and bathroom with shower. Lots of natural light and generally quiet at night. The owners were welcoming and so helpful anytime I contacted them, and made some great suggestions for things to do in the area and in NOLA. As I was staying a while I made good use of the kitchen and appreciated the gas stove!
Both of the owners are artists and their paintings can be seen in the adjoining studio at the front of the house--they have different styles but each make striking work. There are some of the artist's paintings in the apartment which I liked seeing each day.
The Bywater neighbourhood has some wonderful restaurants, including Bacchanal, Elizabeth's, Maurepas, Booty's and Oxalis right at the corner--Oxalis is a lovely atmospheric place to have a good glass of wine. Franklin nearby is also excellent. I cycled everywhere--there are a lot of potholes but local bikes are designed to cope with these, and it is a great way to see the neighbourhood and explore the Quarter and the Warehouse District. Overall a lovely place to stay which is well located.

Everything we hoped for
Delightful stay in Bywater. The apartment was clean, bright and full of helpful additions like coffee, sunscreen, shampoo and other little things that make your stay better. Matilde was very responsive to questions and full of helpful advice. The area (like much of New Orleans) mixes colourful architecture with rundown buildings and friendly locals. We walked all around the neighborhood and enjoyed the bars, cafes, galleries and especially the bike share. Visit The Country Club if you can -- tasty food and the pool is a nice way to end the day.

Wonderful stay and great location!
Our hosts, Matilde and Gustavo could not have been sweeter! We felt like we were family as soon as we met them. The apartment was comfy and quiet. Be sure to tour their art gallery/studio if given the chance. The artwork is beautiful.
They were amazing when our flight was cancelled and we needed to find another place to stay FAST! So accommodating and even drove us to our new digs...WOW
Plenty of amazing little restaurants in the Bywater neighborhood. Easy walk to the French Quarter as well.
Thank you both for making our stay so enjoyable. Can't wait to go back :)

Wonderful Bungalow
This is a wonderful little bungalow in the back of an Artist's studio.
We met the artist Gustavo Duque and saw his wonderful studio but most impressive was that he is doing an exhibit to support underprivileged African students interested in medicine a chance at becoming Doctors and other Medical Professionals. The exhibit starts April 12th at 6pm at the New Orleans Art Center, 3330 St. Claude Avenue, New Orleans, LA. The exhibit will be on display from April 12 through May 6th.I believe it then moves to Texas then Atlanta, GA.
Also Gustavo's wife Matilde Alberny is an artist and she manages the apartment. We did not get to meet her but seemed like a lovely woman. Some of her artwork was in the apartment as well as the studio.
What we liked about this place was that it was in a nice quiet residential neighborhood with lots of vegan and vegetarian restaurants, shops and stores nearby many that cater to the vegan and vegetarian, yogic lifestyle, plus hidden gems like Gustavo's art studio and others. Also, so close to the French Quarter, Frenchman Street and the city itself. We did not have a car and made it around town just find with uber.
I highly recommend this place. We had a wonderful time!

Perfect
We loved our stay here. The place was clean, spacious, and very aesthetically pleasing. The neighborhood was quiet, charming and hip. Matilde's restaurant recommendations were all spot-on (Satsuma, Paladar 511). Free Tours by Foot was terrific too. We also discovered an amazing brunch with live jazz in the garden district: Atchafalaya (reservations are necessary). We didn't meet our hosts but they were very responsive on text. I can't recommend this place highly enough!

Don’t walk, run to book this VRBO! My friend and I stayed for 4 days, and we could not have been happier with experience. Fantastic Stay in Bywater
Matilde and Gustavo are extremely gracious hosts. The accommodations are first rate; The apartment is very clean, beautifully furnished and well equipped for a short or long stay (I stayed a month). The apartment is graced with Gustavo's beautiful art, which makes the rooms feel upscale and serene. The kitchen is fully equipped with refrigerator, gas range, dishwasher, microwave and sink - and all the silverware, dishes, pots and pans to make cooking meals very easy. Gustavo was kind enough to move a larger refrigerator into the kitchen to make my extended stay even more convenient. The bathroom and shower are spotless and easy to use, with plentiful washcloths and towels. The back yard includes a nice shared deck area with seating and a garden umbrella, and a laundry room with full size washer and dryer. The apartment is located in the heart of Bywater with easy access to nearby music venues, restaurants and bars. A car is not necessary; Ubers and taxis are plentiful, and there are several bike share docks within a couple of blocks - take advantage of the app-based ride sharing system (Social Bikes) as this is a cheap, fast and easy way to get around New Orleans. The French Market, Frenchmen Street (music!) and the French Quarter are an eight minute bike ride away! This location provides easy access to the 5 bus on Chartres St., (it goes to the French Market and Canal St) and to the 88 bus on St. Claude, providing a link to the N. Rampart St. street car for easy transfer to the Canal St and St. Charles streetcars. This Bywater location also provides easy access to Espanade Ave, for events at City Park and at the Fairgrounds (Jazz Fest). Crescent Park is just a few blocks away via the Piety Street pedestrian overpass, and this is a great venue for a nice morning stroll that provides great views of the Mississippi River and downtown New Orleans, as well as access to the French Market, the French Quarter and the Riverfront street car line. All in all, this is the perfect place to enjoy the Bywater, Marigny and other wonderful New Orleans sites and scenes!

About the host
Hosted by Matilde Alberny
Greetings! We are Matilde and Gustavo, both visual artists. We came in 1999 to NewOrleans for an exhibit of Gustavo and barely few hours later fell irrevocably in love with the city. Gustavo is a well-known artist and regularly shows abroad and other cities of the United States. His work (and mine) are permanently on display at Kezic Gallery in the FrenchQuarter. You might want to organize a visit to Gustavo’s art studio in the Bywater. We moved to New Orleans where we found a perfect mélange of village and city life with great entertainment. We are foodies, finding wonderful dining experiences in New Orleans is easy and are plentiful. We stroll while sipping our drinks (it’s “legal” here) and enjoy our architectural treasures in the afternoon, meet friends or chase fabulous music at the many venues and festivals around the city. And most of it, if not all can be done walking! We are owners and managers of our property. We like to personally greet our visitors if possible. We are attentive to all of our guests needs and inquiries but understand that we are not part of the planned vacation. We are available if needed.
Why they chose this property
We were enamored by the laid back ambiance of the Bywater, a gorgeous and dynamic historic district just blocks away from the French Quarter. We were seduced by the relaxed tone of this quaint, artsy and eclectic neighborhood. So we established our art studio on Dauphine. The Bywater is the perfect area to enjoy a true local NOLA experience, very close to everything, but far enough to be quiet at night. It is a treasure! In harmony with the innovative spirit of the residents of the Bywater, restaurants and cafes are gathering attention from around the country, great food is being cooked here! The art and entertainment scene is hip and varied and something amazing is always going on. As one of our awesome guests said: “Be brave and leave the French Quarter behind!”
What makes this property unique
You will enjoy the laziness of the backyard, sitting in the front porch while the interesting characters that live in the Bywater go about their businesses. An stroll through the neighborhood is a wonderful experience.
