About this property

Glam camping in a private artistic solar eco-cabin

In an orchard with birds and lizards of many types (both wild and domesticated), this solar powered loft cabin is a simple and unique place to stay while touring beaches and volcanos. Be aware non-toxic and non aggressive lizards might be inside the cabin. Two queen beds (one in a loft), full bathroom and kitchenette (gas burner for cooking and cooler for storing food). There is enough solar power for lights and charging electronics, but not much else (no hair dryers or irons or the power will quit). Mosaic style granite, tile, and cut lava stone floors. Hot shower or bath provided by propane. It is a couple miles off the main highway, along the route to tour the volcano, snorkeling, black sand beaches, lava flows, and hot ponds. If you book, please feel free to ask for tour recommendations based on what you like to do.

So cute! Host was attentive. Location near shopping center but tucked away in the jungle with quick access to road.

Even though the house was charming, it was not adequately described on the website. From the pictures I would not have known the second bedroom was an upstairs loft that you had to climb a ladder to access. Luckily we are all fairly mobile and can climb a ladder! Also, is having a frig an amenity? It wasn’t listed as an amenity, but I thought that would be standard with your location. And if it wasn’t, at least let your visitors know there is no refrigerator! There was an ice cooler, but no mention to bring ice! We had perishables that we had bought before arriving, and then had to go back out to get ice so they wouldn’t spoil! Then there was no key provided for the home so when we left for the day we either had to bring all our valuables with us, or be worried if they would still be there when we returned! The house was pretty remote and private, quite a ways into the country, so we chanced it and left most of our stuff there.Getting more toilet paper from the host was challenging. We did run out even after letting the host know we were low. They brought 1 roll eventually. 1 towel for each of us was provided and I asked about if we could get clean towels after 2 days of use, but apparently that wasn’t part of the deal. We did hang our towels after using them, but they never dried completely so after 4 days of use we were ‘drying’ ourselves with wet, sour towels. I smelled worse after my shower than if I hadn’t taken one.

This place was such a great place to experience off-grid living in the jungle of Hawaii. We wanted some of our family to experience this (we lived near here for a while) and we knew exactly what to expect from the pictures so it was no surprise. Read the description carefully and look at the pictures. There are no windows on the upper half screens(but it is all screened, so not open completely), jalousies on the lower half. There are no curtains on the shower facing the jungle but you can have privacy from inside the cabin itself. Don't book if you aren't comfortable with this. The coqui frogs are insane! I love coquis, I even have an app that I play to fall asleep to when I go to the mainland. However, this is the most I've ever heard, if you don't sleep well with "background noise" just bring some earplugs to drown it out a little. We were able to charge all of our phones, run their lights, and run a CPAP machine with no trouble at all. We used gas burners to heat up some water in the provided kettle for tea but we could have cooked w/ provided pans and dishes, as well. We had a beautiful peacock visit us in the morning before we left. I would definitely stay here again. My family was up for the adventure and they LOVED it! It feels like you might be turning down a private road but the address is on the fence and it is clear where to park. I would suggest (not mandatory) you arrive in daylight, just a little easier).
