About this property

Bywater Art Haven

Your clean, comfortable, quiet shotgun-style home located on one of the best blocks in the Bywater neighborhood. Within an easy walk of many bars, restaurants and the beautiful new Crescent Park and a quick drive to Frenchmen Street and the French Quarter, this historic house has 12 ft ceilings, hardwood floors, and marble kitchen and bathroom. If it's Southern Hospitality you're looking for you've come home!

A spacious 1000 square feet total, there are two bedrooms with California king beds that will sleep 4. The front living room is comfortable, inviting, and decorated with art by locals. Our linens are 100% cotton and we have plenty of extra pillows and blankets. The bathroom with clawfoot tub/shower pampers you with luxurious fluffy towels, and full laundry facilities have been designed for your comfort and convenience. There is a fully equipped kitchen making it easy for you to prepare your meals should you decide to eat at home instead of one of the many restaurants in the neighborhood

Guests have access to the entire side of the shotgun. We live on the other side. There is a shared yard in the back with plenty of shade.

We provide neighborhood recommendations in a book that is located in the front room. We seek to make your stay as comfortable and pleasurable as possible. If you want other recommendations for things to see/do in New Orleans, we enjoy sharing our favorite spots. We are available by message or phone should you need anything

The house is in a thriving neighborhood with many bars and restaurants - Alma, Chance-In-Hell Snowballs, Satsuma, Pizza Delicious, Suis Generis, Markey's Bar, Bud Rip's, the Country Club (where you can pay a cover fee to use the pool, hot tub or sauna), all within 1-2 blocks from our doorstep. There are additional bars and restaurants not much further away: Paladar 511, Elizabeth's, Bacchanal, Jack Dempsey's, and others, all within walking distance

The French Quarter is a 5 to 10 minute drive, a 15 minute bike ride, or a 20 minute walk from the house. The RTA #5 bus stop is at Chartres and will take you there as well
If you're driving there's on-street parking

Quiet Sanctuary in the Vital Bywater Neighborhood of New Orleans

A quiet tucked-in home, with corner bistros and bars a half a block away, Crescent Park 3-blocks away. An old-fashion neighborhood, safe to walk day or night, folks riding around on bikes, everywhere everyone friendly and upbeat.

An Essence Stay

We were pleased with our stay. Jeff and Melissa very nice people, we had one issue with our bathroom but it was handled quickly. It’s a quiet neighborhood expect for July fireworks to be expected lol!. We were close to everything and had easy access to all destinations. I would recommend it for a quite stay.

Best of both worlds: close to the action but located in a quiet area

Jeff & Melissa have a beautiful shotgun home. Bright & airy but can also be darkened if wanted. Spacious with high ceilings & minimal furniture. Living room looks like an art gallery. Has the essentials but no microwave. There is a washer & dryer. Responsive to questions quickly when we were in NOLA. Can be cold in the house but blankets are available. Dream bathroom with a clawfoot tub! Great place to crash. Relatively safe neighborhood. Able to walk to Frenchman St. Uber not too expensive from the Quarter. Great cafes in the neighborhood. Jeff & Melissa have a great list of local neighborhood cafes, bars, etc. Thank you! I had a great experience for my 1st but definitely not last trip to NOLA.

Perfect location

We enjoyed our stay, the only thing that would have made it better would have been having 2 sets of keys. Owners were very helpful with the heaters when we had a cold snap, I would stay here again.

Great spot at a fun intersection in the Bywater

We picked this spot for its location and were not disappointed. There are amazing bars and restaurants in all directions within walking distance. The house itself was very clean, fun and functional. Comfortable (soft mattress) beds with fresh linens. We used the kitchen quite a bit. On a chilly morning, the heaters in concert with the ceiling fans warmed things up quickly. We would definitely come back!

Excellent Property

The house was Amazing!! Very comfortable beds, pillows, and linens. A great place to relax, and an outstanding price. One thing I would suggest is a few more small tables to put your belongings on. The neighborhood is relatively quiet, there is a club that is close by along with a bar, but the noise is kept down so you don't notice it. The only thing I would say as a slight negative is the street parking, because of the traffic at the club. It was difficult to find a spot some nights. Other than that I would definitely recommend staying here.

Decent!

This was my first Home Away experience!! Pros: Despite the "appearance" of the neighborhood to my friends I found it to be fine and conveniently located to most places we were going. The huge beds were probably some of the most comfortable I have ever slept on. The pillows too! The bathroom and kitchen were cute and clean. There were a few pots and pans to use as well! Overall the artwork and decor was eccentric with lots of character. Many colorful NOLA houses around great for photo opts. Cute cafe/coffee shop around the corner. Many other restaurants near by as well. French Quarter wasnt very far if one wanted to walk. Definitely big and spacious compared to a standard hotel room. Cons: Parking wasnt a huge hurdle but there were a couple times we werent able to park in front of the residence because all spots were taken. We ended up parking around the corner a couple times. One night we encountered a huge furry brown spider the size of a adult hand in the bathroom (completely out of the norm for us). There were 3 of us, just ladies, and we were horrified and unsuccessful in our attempt to kill it(It got away :-( ). We had to spend the remainder of our stay worried that it would come back out. In a hotel situation I would have requested strongly to be moved to another room. The owners, who live next door, txtd me to tell me we were being loud and to ask if everything was ok and when i responded with what was happening they offered no words of reassurance or help of any kind. It was late but we were very scared. There were a couple of other bugs but that was not as big of a deal with it being an older home. I would use Home Away again especially if traveling in a big group as it is a cost effective option, and can be a more adventurous of course!!

Quiet spot in Bywater

Kind of hidden and blends in with the trees. Very nice inside. Welcomed us with some cookies. Owners respond very quickly to emails. Would highly recommend because of reasonable rates.

Great location, comfortable home

The location is really wonderful. In the day we walked to the French Quarter and at night we ubered everywhere. Really great bars at the corner, the Country Club and Markeys. There were 4 of us, my husband and our 2 adult kids, one of whom slept on the inflatable mattress. The beds were big and comfortable, the rooms attractive and pleasant. There is no tv which was a bit inconvenient. The kitchen was pretty sparse: coffee, no tea, only 3 cups and a folding card table and chairs. No common coveniences like paper towels, napkins, pot holders, and oddest of all, no microwave. There are full size washer and dryer available. Hosts were accommodating and considerate. We would stay here again.

Beautifully Updated & Most Comfortable Beds EVER

Beautifully updated interior - just what you want from a classic NOLA double shotgun. Really cool art inside. The most gorgeous bathroom I've ever seen and a great kitchen set up. Plus, the most comfortable beds we've ever found in a rental. Awesome place!

Great place, nice neighborhood

Had there been anything to comment or complain about, I'm sure we'd have found it during our very long stay. There isn't. Owners next door keep a respectful yet friendly distance, but are there when you need them. Three good restaurants, one daytime and two evening, are mere seconds away. Crescent Park is at the foot of Piety, don't forget to pay a visit. The honking of the trains at the nearby (five blocks) crossings took some getting used to, and the wifi might be a bit slow--but only if you're uploading backups of photograpy like me, otherwise you're good.

Lovely home!

This is a lovely property. It was very clean and comfortable. There is a full washer and dryer which was just great with the rain we had during our stay we got soaked a couple of times! The neighbourhood is interesting with restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. If you use Crescent Park you will be at the French Market in about 15 minutes or Chartres Street takes you to Frenchmen Street in about the same time. There is also a bus route just on the corner which will take you to Canal Street but it only goes to 7 pm. The house is huge with lots of room for 3 adults and just lovely with lots of sunshine and comfortable beds. There is a full stove and frig which is so nice. There are gorgeous antiques in the house and it was just so cool to stay in a shotgun house in New Orleans. The only thing is the front entrance does not look like the picture posted so don't be shocked - open the door and beauty will greet you!

Weekend trip with 6 people

We all had an amazing experience at this house. Jeff and Melissa were very accommodating and quickly responded to every one of our questions. The house was beautifully decorated, clean and comfortably fit our group. They also suggest places to eat and drink nearby which was greatly appreciated. The neighborhood is quirky and easy to walk to any area in New Orleans, especially Frenchman St! Overall we all had a great stay and really appreciated all of the owners help. Would recommend anyone to stay here for a weekend trip with family or friends!

New Year's in the Bywater

We have nothing but praise for this charming house and our time in the Bywater. Beautiful, CLEAN, comfortable accommodations. After talking to friends about some of their unpleasant experiences with bugs, and shady neighborhoods in N.O., we were anxious about what we would find. Could not have been happier. Never worried for our safety for a moment and never saw a bug!! The funky neighborhood is in a great location to access New Orleans and especially Frenchman St. and its bars and Jazz Clubs. We enjoyed some of the wonderful restaurants and bars in the neighborhood that were easy walking distance for us and our two teenage daughters. Had an awesome breakfast at Elizabeth's, that truly was one of our highlights in an event-packed 5 day stay. Walked to Cresent Park for New Year's fireworks display over the N.O. Riverfront. Met Jeff and Melissa and they quickly responded by text to any questions we had. Thanks for a most memorable stay!! Would love to return and highly recommend.

Great location

This house was in a great location. Walking distance to Frenchmen Street and the French Quarter. There are also a lot of area bars and restaurants to check out. The beds and couch were extremely comfortable and felt good on our tired feet. There is also a bus stop on the corner which we utilized daily. The owners were really flexible and allowed us to check in early. The house is in a more hip and artsy side of town, and super close to the park on the river. The only drawback is there is an enforced rule about no noise after 10pm, so if you're a loud party-er this probably isn't the house for you. This policy wasn't too much of a hassle though and We definitely enjoyed our time in bywater!!

short weekend trip with 6 people

We had a great time at this house. It was beautiful, authentic, and quiet. Lots of hip restaurants, bars, cool houses to see nearby. Crescent park by the river is definitely worth checking out. The owners were quick to respond and very flexible when we had a 6th person wanting to come 2 days prior to arrival. Would love to stay here again!

Beautiful house in a great neighborhood!

A group of friends and I recently rented this great house in New Orleans for a weekend and it was wonderful. First, the house is much bigger than the pictures lead you to believe - plenty of room for 5 friends or more! Although we did not meet the owners, they ensured that we had everything we needed for a great time in New Orleans. The house extremely clean and was fully stocked with bottled water, coffee and neighborhood tips. The location is great, especially if you want an experience that is far enough away from the insanity of Bourbon Street, yet close to local bars and restaurants. If you must experience the craziness, its only a short walk into the French Quarter. Overall, this was a great stay and I would highly recommend it!!

Great time in New Orleans!

My husband and I rented this little gem with another couple and their Mom. It was super clean and cool upon arrival after a long trip. Much nicer and spacious than the photos suggest. We had no problem with the layout and privacy, Mom slept on a very comfortable couch while we enjoyed spacious and comfortable beds. We were worried at first the Bywater may be too far from"it all" but we realized what a pleasure it was to return at the end of the day and rejuvinate for the night ahead. Plenty of bottled water was stocked, coffee and other amenities as well. It was fun exploring the city, finding the old school restaurants and doing the Bourbon St. crawl. We mostly drove or walked. We did rent bikes for a day from Micheal's Bicycles and even caught the bus right around the corner and got around easily. I encourage anyone to spend a day or two in the Bywater! There's Yoga at the Bywater right down the street, the Country Club has an in ground pool as well as food and drink. Satsuma's around the corner if you need a break from fried chicken and po' boys. Our favorite spot was Bacchanal where you can buy a bottle of wine, sit out in the patio and listen to live music. The food is great too. Elizabeth's for breakfast! It really is a lovely, colorful neighborhood. Melissa and Jeff were great and available if we needed anything. Staying here made all the difference!

Amazing location, accommodating hosts.

Where do I begin? From the very first interaction Melissa was sweet and willing to bend over backwards to accommodate our needs. We took a redeye in so we got there at 5 in the morning and Melissa had everything ready for us. And she let us stay late the day we left because she didn't have anyone coming the next day. Talk about Customer Service! The place itself is lovely. High ceilings, gorgeous hardwood floors, a nice kitchen, and two California kings. There is even a backyard and a washer and dryer! The decor is antique but not kitchsy, with funky local art on the walls. And the location! So many amazing bars and restaurants just around the corner. Make sure to have dinner at Oxalis, spend the day at the pool at the Country Club, have brunch at Elizabeth's and and oyster po'boy (or three) at Frady's. If you want to walk a bit further (15 min) go to Bacchanal at dusk and listen to some good music in a beautiful funky neighborhood setting. And if the French Quarter is your thing, it's only a 15 minute walk or so. I will definitely be coming back because there is so much to explore in that neighborhood that a week was definitely not enough.

Just perfect!

We stayed here for a week in June and loved everything about the place. The house itself is beautiful and clean and the owners are so sweet and accommodating. The best part about the house is the location. There is so much to do (and eat!) in the Bywater and this house is in walking distance to most of it. We didn't have a single complaint about our week there and would definitely stay again.

Great place and location!

We had a wonderful 4-night stay at this home recently and highly recommend it. It is comfortable and spacious, with cool, funky artwork, good beds and overhead fans to keep it airy. The location is terrific, we always found easy street parking and Satsuma's Café is right around the corner for breakfast or lunch, with other stores and restaurants nearby. The owner, Melissa, was very responsive, friendly and accommodating. This is a perfect spot to stay for a New Orleans visit!
