About this property

Iconic Avalon Beach Bungalow Close to Everything Kill Devil Hills Has to Offer!

This charming bungalow in the heart of Kill Devil Hills is walking distance from the beach and the sound. The Avalon house is comfortably furnished, well equipped, and surprisingly spacious. All within a one mile radius you'll find Avalon Pier (complete with fishing, restaurant, bar, and arcade), beach accesses, a beloved local coffee shop, multiple bars and restaurants, Target, a movie theater, sound access, and the Bay Drive sound front walking path. Your home away from home awaits!

Avalon Beach is one of the most historic neighborhoods on the Outer Banks. Developed in the 1950s and 60s, it was designed for simple beach cottages that were often built of cinderblocks with iconic flat roofs. Our house, built in 1960, transports you back to those glory days but with the added perk of modern conveniences and comfort.

This beauty boasts 1,324 square feet of living space all on one level with a fully fenced in back yard, making it easily accessible and perfect for families. Off of the sprawling living room you'll find a well appointed kitchen and dining space for 8. Choose from one of 3 bedrooms: the king room, the queen room, or the double + twin room. Two full bathrooms were recently remodeled with beautiful tile work and finishings. Off of the kitchen you'll find a bonus living room with bar seating and a pull out couch. Head outside to catch some sun or hang in the shade of the backyard patio.

Our location is perfect for exploring all Kill Devil Hills has to offer! Easily walk to the beach with a crosswalk 1/3 of a mile to the south (recommended). Less than a quarter mile east you'll find Avalon Fishing Pier complete with a bar, food, an arcade, and live music. Love coffee? Our house is a stones throw away from one of the most beloved coffee shops on the Outer Banks (Front Porch). Next door you'll find a bottle shop with beer and wine plus a bar for tasting on site (Chips Wine and Beer). If you're into that kind of thing, you can explore multiple restaurants and bars (with karaoke!) within a mile of the house. Looking for a quieter time? Head west down Avalon Drive to relax at the Avalon Beach sound access or stroll along the Bay Drive sound front path. The sunsets here are breathtaking!

Both Outer Banks natives, Shea and Joey are extremely knowledgeable about the area. Feel free to reach out if you need anything at all from extra towels to dinner recommendations. You can message us through VRBO or directly by phone.

Our house is perfect for families hoping for a relaxing getaway. We've put lots of thought into ensuring that you have everything you need during your stay, from board games to fresh brewed coffee, shampoo to toys for the kids. While we want you to have the most fun ever, this is not a party destination. Please be respectful of the house and the neighbors keeping pets and humans quiet and well behaved :)

Please note: there is no cable television. There are, instead, 3 Roku smart TVs that you can use to access your preferred streaming services.

Please note: pets are allowed but there is a $150 pet fee. Make sure you check the box to indicate that you are bringing a pet when you make the reservation!

Great updated bungalow home located in the Avalon neighborhood. The hostess was very responsive to our questions and restaurant recommendations. The home is very clean with many amenities. The neighborhood is family and pet friendly. The location is great which is not too far from the Avalon beach and pier. The home included a parking pass for parking at the Avalon Beach Drive Access which was a bonus. We enjoyed strolling near the sound (Kitty Hawk Bay) to watch the sunset. We will be recommending this home to our friends and family.

Exactly what our group of 6 adults (and one dog!) needed. So many rentals in the area that sleep 6 fall short on common space — not this one. The dining and living areas were genuinely comfortable for our whole group to eat together, watch TV, and play board games. The table could have fit 8 adults. There were several books, board games, and puzzles on the shelves. We had a hilarious time playing The Game of Things. The home matched the photos perfectly, was immaculately clean, and had some really thoughtful extras waiting for us, like coffee supplies and extra blankets, that weren't even listed in the amenities. The patio lights made for a wonderful evening hangout spot, and our dog made great use of the fenced yard. The host was communicative, responsive, and prepared — from clear check-in instructions to a local guide book full of restaurant and activity recommendations, to checkout instructions right on the fridge. I appreciated that the guide book included a history of the house, as the house was built in the 60's.This cute and comfortable vacation rental made our trip even more enjoyable. Would absolutely recommend, especially for groups traveling with pets!

Shea and Joey are both Outer Banks natives. We were lucky enough to spend our childhoods romping through the salt marsh and floating in the ocean right here in Kill Devil Hills. To us, there's no better place on Earth and we can't wait to share it with you!
