The place hadn't been cleaned since the previous guests stayed. The host contacted us to apologize and let us know we could make the beds with clean linen from the closet. The place looks like it's in the process of being renovated. The host did let us leave our luggage to be picked up later which was nice.

The home renovation is not quite complete. Lots of little finishes left undone, like missing cover plates on bathroom light switches. The beds were comfortable and a convenient location to downtown Anchorage and the airport. The kitchen/living area is very comfortable with free Netflix on the TV! Host was very responsive to our questions. We would stay here again!

This place was absolutely lovely! We got in late and were very tired. The dark curtains and comfortable beds let us get a good night's sleep despite the long daylight hours in July. I loved the plants throughout the house, the very comfortable living room couch, and the small deck where my daughter enjoyed reading her book and taking photos of a magpie. We didn't need them, but there were staples in the kitchen, which was very nice. The upstairs bathroom was beautiful. I loved the shower design and there was plenty of warm water and good water pressure. The washer and dryer worked well. It looks newly remodeled, and, yes, as another reviewer mentioned, there were a few things that weren't quite finished. It was nothing major, though. It sorta made me feel at home because we always have a small fix-it project in place too. I'm so glad we stayed here, and we'd certainly stay again if our travels bring us back to Anchorage.

Property was listed as new build when we booked. They are definitely updating it and what they have done so far is done very nicely. It’s just not finished which would have been nice to know. Many light switches and power plugs did not have plate covers. Light fixtures, bathroom fans and stove top vent just hanging by wires. The two bedrooms downstairs were totally unfinished with tvs and mirrors sitting on floor and leaning against the wall. Not one closet had a door on it and many with unfinished trim and nails sticking out. There was a kitchen table but no chairs in sight. A few bar stools but not usable for the table to eat or play games at. The couple that was cleaning when we got there was super polite and very nice. I believe they were the owners. I think it will be very nice when they are done but if I had smaller children I would definitely have been upset as it would have been an issue with all the uncovered electrical plugs and switches. There is a strange door in one of the downstairs bedroom that has a ladder down it into some type of crawl space. I have a teenage daughter and I wouldn’t let her stay down there as I didn’t know where it went and no way to lock from above. Again, I think it will be a really nice place once it’s finished but if you have young kids…I would be cautious.

About the host

Hosted by kayla hall

Host profile image
My husband and I are lifelong Alaskans, both originally from Juneau before our families relocated to the Mat-Su Valley, where we were raised. Interestingly, our parents grew up and attended school together in Juneau proof of just how small Alaska can be. Although we shared similar roots, we didn’t meet until a little over six years ago, and we have been a strong, committed team ever since.

Like anyone, we’ve faced our share of challenges, but one thing has remained constant. we prioritize family above everything else. That mindset is the foundation of how we host. We understand that time with loved ones is what truly matters, and we’ve designed our home to reflect that.

From the moment you walk in, the space is built for connection. The open-concept kitchen and living area ensures no one is left out whether you're preparing meals or relaxing, everyone stays engaged. The brand-new chef’s kitchen is fully equipped well beyond expectations, featuring extensive cabinet space and a wide range of appliances including air fryers, crock pots, rice cookers, griddles, toaster ovens, and more. You’ll find everything needed to prepare meals for both family and friends with ease.

The living area is designed for comfort and gathering, whether that means unwinding on the couch by the fireplace with a movie or sitting around the kitchen island enjoying conversation. The layout naturally brings people together without feeling crowded.

After a long day exploring Alaska, the upstairs master suite offers a standout experience. The spa-style couples shower features dual controls, four shower heads including rain heads and personal wands with strong and consistent water pressure along with an ample hot water supply. It’s designed for both comfort and convenience, eliminating the usual compromises.

This is not just a place to stay. it’s a space intentionally built for families and groups to connect, relax, and make the most of their time together.

Why they chose this property

Our neighborhood stands out for all the right reasons—not because it’s ours, but because it genuinely delivers a high-quality living experience. This is a community of well-maintained, upscale family homes with no apartment complexes, creating a more private, secure, and welcoming environment.

You can expect a true neighborhood feel, where families are established, kids play outside, and neighbors look out for one another. There is a strong sense of community here, while still maintaining a quiet, peaceful atmosphere. Noise and disturbances are not an issue. We have never experienced any and we ask our guests to respect it and keep it that way.

Although the home is conveniently located near the airport, the impact is minimal. From the large back deck overlooking the spacious fenced yard, you may occasionally hear planes taking off, which many guests find enjoyable rather than disruptive. Inside the home, however, it is virtually silent—an indication of the home’s quality construction and insulation.

This balance of community, privacy, and tranquility is what makes the location truly exceptional.

What makes this property unique

What truly sets our property apart is the intentional experience behind it—it’s not just a place to stay, it’s a space designed around how families and groups actually live, connect, and relax.

First, the home is built for togetherness without sacrificing comfort. The open-concept layout allows everyone to stay connected at all times, whether you're cooking, relaxing, or spending time together. There are no disconnected spaces—everything flows in a way that keeps the entire group engaged.

Second, the kitchen is a standout feature. This is not a basic rental setup—it’s a fully equipped, oversized chef’s kitchen designed for real use. With extensive cabinet space and a wide range of appliances and tools, it supports everything from quick meals to full family-style cooking. Most properties simply don’t offer this level of functionality.

Third, the property delivers a high level of comfort and privacy. The large fenced yard and back deck provide space to unwind, while the quiet, upscale neighborhood offers a peaceful environment you won’t find in high-density areas. You get the benefit of a true residential experience, not a crowded rental zone.

Finally, the master suite elevates the entire stay. The spa-style couples shower—with dual controls, four shower heads, and strong, consistent water pressure—creates a premium, resort-level feature that most homes simply cannot match.

Layered on top of all of this is who we are as hosts. As lifelong Alaskans with deep roots in the community, we’ve built this space with a family-first mindset. That translates directly into how the home is set up and the experience guests have.

Bottom line: this property combines space, functionality, comfort, and authenticity in a way that most rentals do not—and that’s what makes it stand out.
