STARTING A FIRE

1. To properly start a fire in a the fireplace, first check the operation of the flue damper (see
“DAMPER CONTROL”).

2. To prevent smoke at startup, I usually crack open the front door to allow a draft. Once the fire is going close the door.

3. There are fire bricks and wood on the front porch provided. Be cautious so logs will not roll out of the fireplace.

4. Close the screens to prevent the escape of sparks and embers. (If you decide to leave the Glass doors open, Please turn the fan on so the heat wont singe the Elk Mount).

5. Close the damper only when the fire is completely OUT and ashes are COLD. Keep
the damper closed when the fireplace is not in use, to prevent unnecessary loss of an air.

6. You can put ashes in the ash bucket and we can empty.

DAMPER CONTROL

This fireplace is fitted with a manually controlled chimney damper.

• To CLOSE the damper, slide all the way LEFT until locked in position.
• To OPEN the damper, slide all the way RIGHT until locked in position.

When the fireplace is NOT in use, the damper should remain CLOSED to prevent cold air
from entering the home through the chimney system.

When the fireplace is in use, the damper MUST remain OPEN.
