About this property

Cloverdale Dog-Friendly Creekside Retreat with Firepit

Summary:

Wade into Big Sulphur Creek from your own sandy stretch, then sway in the hammock as oak light filters through the yard of this dog-friendly Cloverdale cottage. Two bedrooms plus a bunk space sleep 6 across 2 baths and ~1,598 sq ft, just 2.5 miles from downtown Cloverdale and 90 miles from the Bay Area — Alexander Valley tasting rooms minutes away.

The Space:

Spend mornings with coffee on the deck as the creek murmurs below, afternoons hiking Porterfield Creek Preserve (4.2 mi) or pouring tastings at J. Rickards Winery (8.5 mi) and Truett Hurst (12.9 mi), and evenings back on the creekside deck listening to the water. Cloverdale (2.4 mi), Geyserville (12.2 mi), Healdsburg (20.1 mi), and the Solar Living Center (14.1 mi) all sit within an easy drive.

Settle into the open great room where leather chairs angle toward conversation and a pellet stove warms winter nights — stream a series on the cable-equipped flatscreen, or claim the built-in window seat with a book pulled from the shelves.

Cook for the whole crew in the farmhouse kitchen, where a rolling butcher-block island gives you prep room and the dishwasher handles cleanup while you wander back outside. Gather six around the dining table beneath the chandelier as French doors swing open to the deck, or pull up to the round breakfast nook for a quieter morning. Kids' games, books, and a booster seat are tucked in for families.

OUTDOOR LIVING

Step through the vine-draped arbor into a yard built for slow days. Fire up the gas grill on the well-furnished deck, then drift down the private path to your own sandy beach on Big Sulphur Creek, where a hammock, swing, and creekside chairs wait. A wooden pergola shades the outdoor dining area, and a hanging macrame chair is made for an afternoon nap.

- Bedroom 2: Queen bed

- Bonus sleeping area: Bunk bed (twin over double)

- 2 full bathrooms

- Sleeps 6

PROPERTY AMENITIES

Guest Access:

Spend the afternoon on the creek, light the fire pit at dusk, and pull dinner out under the pergola on the covered deck. You've got the whole home, dogs welcome, with an outdoor pool, BBQ, hammock, and an enclosed yard inside the trees. Punch in the keypad code at the door, and pull into the driveway.

The Neighborhood:

Your creekside retreat sits in a private, wooded setting just 2.5 miles from downtown Cloverdale — close enough for convenience, far enough for tranquility. When you're ready to explore, The Beet Restaurant & Wine Shop (1.7 miles) offers farm-to-table dining and local wine selections. For casual meals, Wolf House Brewing (1.7 miles) serves handcrafted ales with pub fare on their patio. Stock up on groceries at Dahlia & Sage Community Market (1.7 miles), or grab morning coffee at Plank Coffee Cloverdale (1.7 miles) where locals gather. Wine tasting opportunities abound, starting with BobDog Wines just 1 mile away. Pine Mountain Vineyards & Winery (2.5 miles) and William Gordon Winery (2.8 miles) offer intimate tastings in the Alexander Valley. For outdoor adventures beyond your private creek, Cloverdale River Park (0.8 miles) provides kayak launching and fishing access to the Russian River.

Getting Around:

Cloverdale is about 95 minutes from San Francisco via US-101 North — an easy freeway drive to the northern tip of Sonoma wine country. You'll have dedicated parking for up to 3 vehicles in the driveway. A car is the easiest way to explore the Alexander Valley wineries and Lake Sonoma, both just minutes away. For tasting days, plan a designated driver or book a rideshare ahead — it makes the whole day easier.

Other Things to Note:

The home stays naturally cool thanks to the creekside location and shade from mature oaks — most days you won't miss having AC. During rare heat waves, fans throughout the house provide relief. Your private rocky creekside access to Big Sulphur Creek is truly special — you'll find mostly rocky shoreline with a small sandy area — few rentals offer this. The water level varies by season; it's deepest in winter/spring. Please supervise children near the creek at all times. The enclosed yard is perfect for your dogs to explore safely. We provide children's games, books, and a booster seat to help families feel at home. The pellet stove provides cozy heat on chilly evenings — pellets are provided. The primary renter must be 21 or older. The gravel driveway and natural paths may be uneven, so bring appropriate footwear for exploring your creekside acre.

Lovely house and yard

Lovely house in a beautiful area. We loved the yard and the easy access to the creek. Neighbors on both sides were very nice. This was perfect for two adults and our dog but could very easily accommodate more people comfortably.

Lovely property in a gorgeous location

Beautiful home and yard, with easy access to the creek. The house stayed cool despite 90f temps and no ac. We loved sitting on the back porch each evening under the stars. The neighbors on both sides were nice (and quiet) and overall this was just a lovely stay.

Great central location. Very spacious. Proximate to a creek which was big enough for water play. We all had lots of fun.

The Creek House

Everything was very clean, the only problem we had was the yard was full of weeds, but that was fixed. The gardener showed up the take care of it, so we left for a few hours. The is fenced and large which works out well if you have a dog.

Quiet retreat near Sonoma

Clean, updated kitchen. Upstairs bedrooms and baths as shown. More bedroom hanging storage and bathroom cabinet storage would be helpful. A hair dryer would be nice. Basement is a bit more dark than appears in pictures. Outdoor space very nice.

Comfortable, Well Equipped, Not Overly Fancy

A nice comfortable place to spend a few days. Has all the basics, good access, a nice yard. This was our 2nd time staying here, so it clearly works for us (and our dog).

Fun house in wine country

Very fun house on the creek and a short drive to many wineries. The only drawback is it would have been nice to have the grass cut in the backyard. Overall a great stay.

Clean house. Would have loved more kitchen pots and pans for cooking. Was hoping to be able for kids to play in the creek behind the house, but the water was too shallow with lots of algae. Great bbq grill. Fan and portable AC unit helped us stay cool even during the hot 95 degrees days. Thought we were to keep music level low even during early afternoon, but the neighbor next door had rave music blasting that kept some of us indoors to avoid the loud music. Communication was timely with the host. Good washer and dryer. Good card and board games for kids to play with. Trampoline was a hit with the kids when the weather cooled down.

Nice place to get out of the city

The house was nice with lots of areas to gather. The backyard led to a creek which was fun to play in with my daughter. No A/C was a struggle, but the nights cooled down, thank God. The beds were comfortable.

Great home

This is the perfect little house for an escape into nature. The creek in the back is beautiful and there are plenty of spots to enjoy the beauty of nature. The house itself was super clean with comfortable beds and lots of different spots to enjoy coffee or wine. We loved it! And would love to come back. Thank you.

Beautiful house with dirty plates

We loved the home, except that everything in the kitchen was unwashed and dirty. For the price I payed for this location I expected things to be clean. We had to re-wash everything we used.

Spacious with Character

The house and the property were great. The house is full of character and there are lots of places to sit and chat inside and out. There were two additional daybeds in the living room that I didn't recall from the listing. The property is quiet and peaceful. The creek was running and it was nice to sit on the disconnected deck and listen to the creek. However, the listing does not disclose that there is no AC. It was 111 the day before we checked in and the house was over 90 degrees when we got there. We purchased large portable ACs and the lister (Vacasa) handled the issue very well, as long as they follow through with the promised action. The customer service was understanding, courteous and reasonable.

Lovely vacation home for families with very small pieces of room for improvement

We loved this home- private, quiet, spacious, and clean. My friend had her dog and I had my baby- all four of us enjoyed the quietness of the morning by the creek, playing in the family room, and the privacy of the water. There are so many different places to gather and be. It was 103-105 degrees when we were there (!). The Vacasa team provided a space air conditioner and space fans. The only sad part? Mosquitos in the evening and mornings that prevented us from being able to truly enjoy the backyard. The only recommendations? The house would really benefit from investing in more safely articulating the path to the creek. There are a few steps, but aside from that, the path access to the creek is really rocky/tricky to navigate. With a baby in tow, it was tough! And especially since the house is family-friendly, it would be really important and wise to put in a railing or clear the private path. Other small piece: the kitchen was really understocked. No coffee, no oil, very few spices...that seemed surprising for the house. Usually houses we rent come pretty ready with the basics.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us, Leora. We are delighted to hear that you and your group, including your friend's dog and your baby, enjoyed the privacy, quietness, and spaciousness of the home. It sounds like you had a wonderful time by the creek and in the family room. We appreciate your feedback regarding the mosquitoes. We understand how they can be a nuisance and affect your ability to enjoy the backyard fully. We will look into possible solutions to mitigate this issue for future guests. Your suggestions about the path to the creek are very valuable. We understand how important it is to have safe and easy access, especially when traveling with a baby. We will certainly consider adding a railing or clearing the path to make it more accessible for families. We also apologize for the under stocked kitchen. We strive to provide a well-equipped kitchen for our guests, and we will review our inventory to ensure that basic items like coffee, oil, and spices are available. Thank you again for your thoughtful review and recommendations. We hope to have the pleasure of hosting you again in the future, providing an even better experience next time.

Health hazard, no access to creek, totally misleading photos and description

I booked this property to celebrate my son's 10th month birthday and also invited my parents. The backyard of this property is in total ruins. The large yard and the creek are totally inaccessible because of the 2.5 feet tall weeds that are growing everywhere (and upto 5 feet in some areas). The furniture in yard is totally inaccessible again due to tall weeds. if you would sit, weeds would reach your chest. The ladders leading to trampoline and tree house are also engulfed with tall weeds. The hammock is covered in weeds and its not even visible. There is no path to the furniture overlooking the creek because there are tall weeds growing everywhere. When my husband tried to look around and reach the viewing deck of creek he was hurt by a thorn on his leg from these tall weeds. This is season of ticks and with the unmaintained state of the property I would say its a health risk. The cooking grate of the gas grill is totally rusted. We brought lots of marinated food with us which got wasted and we had to make immediate alternate arrangements for food. When booking this stay, I was confused between 2 properties and I chose this property because of its creek access and large backyard. There is nothing to do in Cloverdale with an infant. Our only plan was to sit by the creek and on the deck overlooking the creek and spend 3 days celebrating my son. When I called the property manager, I was told that they are only responsible for interior maintenance and not outside. Is a renter supposed to come and clean the weeds for my stay? They should mention this in the listing and not advertise a clean and super well maintained backyard. They should show the real pictures and not promise wrong information on the title and description. I am really disappointed with the state in which the property was given to me. I paid so much more for this property to enjoys it. Moreover with an infant and the risk of ticks that usually are prevalent in this season in the area I felt it was dangerous for us to be anywhere near that yard. If I would have known this condition of backyard, I would have never booked this property. I had booked for 3 days and I asked the property manager to send a gardner the next day and get it cleaned up. No one was sent in all 3 days. After reporting the issues immediately after check in, I sent about 15 photos and video to Vrbo and Vacasa and for 10 days the property manager did not communicate with me at all.

Gurinder, we are disheartened to read that the condition of the backyard had a negative impact on your stay. We truly apologize for the disappointment you experienced and we hope that the compensation you received helped alleviate some of your frustration. Our local manager assured us that yard work has been done and the yard is in good shape. We hope to have the opportunity to better impress you in the future and provide an amazing vacation experience.
