The space
Built in 1950 as one of the first homes in the new Reseda neighborhood, our bungalow carries 75 years of California history. After we purchased it in spring 2018, we spent eight years transforming a blank canvas into the lush sanctuary you see today. Fully surrounded by towering 18-foot hedges, the Oasis is the perfect escape from LA's noise. Lounge by the vintage pool on the travertine patio as bright bougainvillea and fruit trees soothe the soul in the lush garden. Minutes from LA's attractions, this peaceful oasis awaits your stay. *Pool is not heated*

**THE SPACE**

Our cozy and well-appointed home is designed to provide you with all the comforts of home. As you step inside, you'll be greeted by a bright and inviting living space, perfect for unwinding after a day of sightseeing. Sink into the oversized sectional as you catch up on your favorite shows on the flat-screen TV, or simply enjoy the company of friends and family in this cozy atmosphere.

The fully equipped kitchen boasts modern appliances and ample counter space, making it easy to whip up delicious meals during your stay. Enjoy your culinary creations at the expandable dining table or take advantage of the sunny weather and dine alfresco on the private patio.

When it's time to retire for the night, you'll find peace and tranquility in our serene bedrooms. Sink into Dream Cloud mattresses and Casper cooling pillows as you drift off to sleep wrapped up in soft cotton sheets. With ample closet space and thoughtful touches throughout, our bedrooms are designed to ensure a restful night's sleep.

**THE GARDEN**

The Oasis' lush garden and pool area is surrounded by 18 ft hedges for ultimate relaxation and privacy. When we first bought the property, this space was completely blank. Over eight years, we planted hedges that grew to their current 18 feet. We chose every fruit tree intentionally; fig, pomegranate, kumquat, tangelo, blood orange, and key limes all fruiting at various times throughout the year. There's a travertine marble patio overlooked by towering bougainvillea. After a day in the sun, cozy up by the fire pit and roast some marshmallows under the stars. This garden is the result of dreaming, learning, and falling in love with this space.
*Smoking allowed outside only! Please clean up after your burn.

**THE POOL**

This oldie but goodie is left over from the days of diving boards and comes with "deep" end and "shallow" end. Please note the pool is not heated and can be quite chilly from mid-October through April/May depending on the temps outside. Otherwise, the water is heated by the "Valley" Sun and is perfect for relaxing. The pool is serviced and cleaned weekly. There is some discoloration at the bottome of the deep end that is purley cosmetic and is being refinished at the end of February 2026.

**THE NEIGHBORHOOD**

Located in the San Fernando Valley our home offers easy access to all that Los Angeles has to offer. The Oasis is close in proximity to Ventura Blvd and the 101 & 405 freeways.

Explore the natural beauty of the area with a hike in nearby parks such as Lake Balboa Park or Topanga State Park. Discover the rich cultural heritage of Los Angeles with a visit to the Getty Center or the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. And of course, no visit to LA would be complete without indulging in some world-class dining and shopping along the famed Sunset Boulevard.

**OTHER THINGS TO NOTE**

The Oasis was originally built in 1950 as one of the first homes in the new neighborhood of "Reseda." You can still see the original builder's sidewalk stamp in the concrete sidewalks around the neighborhood. This home represents a moment in American history when ordinary working families could build their dreams.

Due to the area and age of the home, it's not abnormal to observe small cracks appearing on the walls or some of the doors sticking as they go "out of square."

Our garden pool is old school, oversized, and not heated. May through September it's a wonderful temperature heated by "the Valley" sun. October through April it's a nice water feature perfect for your morning cold plunges :)

About the host

Host profile image
I'm Matthew, an artist and nomad, originally from the Pacific Northwest and now based in Anchorage, Alaska. My husband and I like to collect homes and we put a lot of thought into the spaces we host. Comfort, character, and the feeling that someone actually lives there and cares is paramount.

The Oasis is one of our homes, and for over ten years it was our base in the US. During that time we built the garden from the ground up and used it as our launchpad for traveling the world. It holds a lot of meaning for us, which is exactly why we want guests who will appreciate it. I hope you feel as at home here as we do.

What makes this property unique

The Oasis earns its name. The garden is the centerpiece, years in the making, lush and private in a way that's rare in Los Angeles. It's not a staged backdrop; it's a living space we tended ourselves. Filled with fruit trees and drought resistant plants this garden will help you escape the humm of the city when you arrive. Beyond the garden, the home itself is an original 1950s bungalow, and we are only the second owners in its entire history. That kind of continuity is felt the moment you walk in, the bones, the character, the quiet sense that this place has been cared for and loved by the same few hands for decades. It's layered, personal, and considered; not a generic rental turnover. Guests who stay here tend to notice the difference immediately.
