About this property

Charming West Shore Chalet, Great Location, Walk To The Lake

Come relax at Lake Tahoe in our family’s charming chalet on the beautiful and peaceful West Shore. Our cabin is updated and completely furnished.

Each of the four bedrooms (two upstairs, two downstairs) contain a queen size bed and all linens are provided for your comfort and convenience. Each bedroom also has individually-controlled baseboard heating. The two bathrooms (one upstairs, one downstairs) have been remodeled and updated.

Just bring your food and favorite beverages and enjoy preparing your meals in the modern and fully stocked kitchen. And if you forget to bring something, the local (and newly remodeled) Tahoma Market is just a short drive or a 10 minute walk. They have great sandwiches too! For coffee drinkers or gelato lovers, check out "Where We Met," a cute little (seasonal) coffee shop just down the street.

During the warm summer days you can relax on the deck and fire up the grill while enjoying the serenity of the West Shore, and when it gets chilly outside you can cozy up inside with a roaring fire in the wood burning stove.

A short walk to the beach -- only two blocks away! Provided with your stay is full access to the beach and pier at the Water’s Edge. Also, you can walk or bike to Sugar Pine Point State Park, or hit the slopes at Homewood Mountain Resort less than 3 miles away.

When the weather permits, you can enjoy spending time at Marie Sluchak Community Park—a charming, small-scale community space, located just down the street at the "Y" where Pine St. meets Wilson Ave. It has a newly updated playground for kids, an amphitheater with stage and seating used for summer live music and movies, and a picnic and BBQ area.

Nice clean and fully stocked house. Close to the lake, about 7 minute drive from the house there’s a beautiful beach with picnic tables but you’ll need to bring your own beach towels. Gary was available and helpful when we had questions.

We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely cabin! It had everything we needed and was so comfortable. It was very clean and well laid out with the 4 bedrooms and 2 baths. We were 4 adults but this cabin could easily accommodate 8 people. I highly recommend this cabin!

Will definitely be back!

Property was exactly as described and fit all the needs for our stay. There were enough rooms to fit the different families we had traveling and gave everyone their own space. Perfect place for kids! The park down the street was a nice surprise. The set up of the house made it easy to block off the upstairs so the littles stayed downstairs. Communication with the host was excellent. We’ll definitely be back.

Great property, with plenty of space and convenient location. Visited with my wife and our daughters family of four, which included two children age 5 and 1 1/2. Close to snow parks and food choices. Cabin was clean and well stocked with everything needed for the stay. Clear directions were provided concerning check in and check out procedures. Would definitly stay again.

Great host!! I would recommend repeat. Great experience, great location, and very responsive. One of our friends’ kids with us was allergic to dogs and the cabin may have had prior guests with pets, that’s the only caveat for people.

Perfect Place on Lake Tahoe

The house is cozy, clean, and comfortable with enough room for our party of 7. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook full meals for our group. The beach access was close and easy. And communication was on point — Tracy called us ahead of our checkin to give us the bear tips. (And btw, we did see two bears in the neighborhood! So cool!) I highly recommend Gary’s cabin!

Tahoma retreat

We had a wonderful time at this cozy cabin in Tahoma. West shore is so beautiful and low key. There was plenty of space and kitchen was well stocked. Bathrooms very nice with heaters which was nice because unseasonably cold in June. The pier and small beach is just down the street which was great. Tacoma market just down the street, has everything, including awesome huge deli sandwiches and yummy burger and coffee shop down the street as well. We enjoyed awesome hikes and paddling at the lake. Would highly recommend- thank you for sharing your cabin with us!

Great cabin!

My family and I stayed here for a little weekend vacation. When we arrived, the trash wasn't emptied out, but other than that the cabin was nice and clean. We also brought some food with us to cook and the cabin was stocked with everything we needed. Communication with owner was easy and all the information was sent a month ahead of time which was great. There was also a checklist in the cabin that made the checkout process go a lot smoother. I definitely recommend this place. It's the perfect size for a family or group of friends to stay in. 10/10 so cozy!

About the host

Hosted by Gary Gutowsky

Host profile image
I grew up in the Bay Area and my parents, my brother, and I have enjoyed vacationing in Lake Tahoe since the mid-60s. We bought the lot in 1972 and built the cabin ourselves in 1976. After retiring from the Air Force in 2011, my wife and I settled in the Sacramento area to be close to our kids and so we could spend more time at the Lake. Since then we have spent a considerable about of time at the cabin and love being there. When we're not there, I spend my free time teaching part-time at Sierra College and volunteering with Junior Achievement of Sacramento.

Why they chose this property

We love the West Shore of Lake Tahoe! That's why we've been coming up here as long as I can remember. There is so much to do here, or not...it's up to you. One of my favorite activities is to walk down to the pier at Water's Edge in the evening and check out all the stars. It's amazing and so relaxing. Another fun activity is a bike ride around the neighborhood or through Sugar Pine Point State Park. As a very recreational skier, I love skiing at Homewood. It's only a few minutes away and it's a great family ski area with some of the best views of the lake. I think my favorite time of year there is the Fall. The days are still warm but the nights cool down so it's a perfect time to sit outside during the day and cozy up to the fire at night. And since the kids are back in school, it's not crowded there at all. Lake Tahoe is my favorite place in the world...any time of year!

What makes this property unique

Our cabin is a labor of love. We built it in 1976 as a family project with the help of a few friends. Although it was built with many hand-me-downs, it has always been cozy and comfortable. We updated the kitchen in 2006 and the bathrooms in 2013. Also in 2013 we replaced most of the furnishings. We're very happy with the way it turned out--maintaining that rustic charm while providing all the modern conveniences. Come check it out!
