About this property
Perfect location between Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and the Great Smoky Mountains
We invite you to stay in our very much loved cabin in the peaceful Smoky Mountains. We have all stainless steel appliances, two Bedroom Master Suites with a Jacuzzi tub in each. 5-person hot tub and 3 decks to experience the serenity of the mountains, while staying in a real wood cabin. We aim to provide a comfortable stay for our guests as a base to travel into the Great Smoky Mountains and the surrounding activities in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.
Free Spirit is nestled almost perfectly between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge in a serene mountain setting. It is only minutes to all attractions and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
You will find that our cabin is unique and very spacious. It sleeps five people comfortably . Two small children could fit on the loft futon, making it possible for six with children. Two families with children, or one large family would also be comfortable in Free Spirit. This cabin has two master suites with full private bath/shower combination as well as a Jacuzzi in each of the two private bedrooms. The open concept living room/kitchen/dining room make it a perfect place for family and friends to gather and the upstairs loft with pool table and TV is a great place for the kids (big and small) to hang out.
And who wants to stay indoors with the magnificent mountains at your doorstep.
Our three decks bring the indoors out so you can relax and have coffee on the upper deck from the bedroom or sit on the deck while grilling burgers and sharing laughs. On a clear night there is a wonderful view of the sky and stars in all their glory. Don’t forget to enjoy an evening in the hot tub under our covered deck all while feeling close to nature!
We have made available for your convenience maps and brochures of restaurants and area attractions such as Dollywood, Dolly Parton's Stampede, Ripley’s Aquarium, The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Cades Cove, Outlet Malls and The Gatlinburg Arts and the Crafts Community. There is also a Hiker's Guide to the Smoky Mountains in the cabin. It describes all trails in the Smokies in alphabetical order.
Free Spirit is located within 20 minutes of the Sugarlands Visitor's Center entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains. It is great for hikers looking for a little relaxation after a big hike in the Smokies.
Mounted on the laundry room door is a relief map of the Smokies showing many beautiful areas in the park. There is also a large framed relief map of a large part of the Southern Appalachian Mountains in the game room upstairs.
We can provide a list of local trails and directions to Cades Cove which is one of the most popular areas in the park to see wildlife and an unusual homesite cove in the heart of the park.
Roger has hiked every trail in the park and is a member of the Smoky Mountains 900 milers club. He is happy to answer any questions about the trails a potential hiker would want to know.
After that serious through hike in the park, return to the outside hot tub or the comfortable jacuzzi in your private bedroom.
With all the following amenities we are sure you will have a blessed time in these mountains and create lots of precious memories.
For security of our guests and our property from humans and animals, we have installed a camera to look over the driveway.

About the host
Hosted by Roger and Donna Shipley
God has blessed us with our lifelong dream of having a place of our own in the Great Smoky Mountains so we can enjoy His creation.
The Great Smoky Mountains are now a second home to us. Something we have always dreamed of. When we hike these Mountains, our hearts tune in to the Essence of the Love of God in Nature. The Serene Forests, the Beautiful Waterfalls, and Views from the Top of the World have brought us closer to God and has shown us what Peace really is. When we are in these Beautiful Mountains that Peace is Apparent.
We have tried to channel that Peace through our Blessing we call Free Spirit. It is our Greatest Desire to share that Peace with our Guests. God's love flows more freely through a vessel open to receive his love. We hope Free Spirit can assist in your Quest to find your Peace Throughout those Mountains..

Why they chose this property
Sky Harbor is centrally located between everything. We enjoy the Atmosphere of Gatlinburg, along with the Ski Lodge at Over Gatlinburg. Gatlinburg stands out when the Snow falls in the Winter and when the Leaves Peak in the Fall.
Pigeon Forge is just as close. We love to spend time with Family and Grandchildren in Pigeon Forge since there is so much to do. Toys for all ages along with the Ferris Wheel are located in Pigeon Forge.
The main reason we like this location is how close it is to The Great Smoky Mountains. Just a drive toward Gatlinburg and take the Bypass around Gatlinburg to get to the
Great Smoky Mountains in 20 minutes.

What makes this property unique
Free Spirit is located on a Ridge which has a unique Serenity of its own. On the ridge, it is quiet most of the time. There is usually a breeze blowing through the trees in the forest surrounding the open deck. After a good rain, a waterfall down below can be heard. That helps provide a tranquil departure from the usual quiet. At night the sky opens up from the deck for star gazing. And in the morning the birds call for Meditation in Quiet Solitude. All this preparing you for an Inspirational Hike in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park just a short distance away.
The Access to Free Spirit Cabin is only three steps up to the deck from the driveway. From there the main level of the cabin can be assessed without a step.
The capacity of 5-6 people includes a king bed downstairs, queen bed upstairs, and futon in the loft. Each bedroom has its own jacuzzi tub and full bathroom with shower/tub. The open concept of the cabin gives a feeling of plentiful space in the cabin.
Sky Harbor is conveniently located between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, making both within just a few minutes drive. Dollywood is so close you can occasionally hear the Steam Engine's whistle from the Locomotive. There is also a back way to Dollywood, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, the Arts and Crafts Community and a bypass to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park from Sky Harbor to avoid heavy traffic. Our laminated map on the Kitchen Hutch shows how to get to both places and a few other shortcuts and bypasses around the area.
