About this property
Riverfront New River Cabin - Relax and Renew - Family Cabin Near Boone
Wake up to the sound of the New River and enjoy peaceful Blue Ridge Mountain views from our riverfront family cabin in Todd, North Carolina.
Our cabin is designed for guests who want a comfortable place to rest, reconnect, and enjoy the beauty of the High Country. It sleeps up to 8 guests, with the best fit being families or small groups: three queen bedrooms for adults and a loft trundle that is best suited for children.
The main-level primary bedroom includes a queen bed and ensuite bathroom. Upstairs, there are two queen bedrooms that share a full bathroom. The loft includes a trundle bed and works well as a kids’ sleeping area, reading space, TV area, or game area. With 2.5 bathrooms and a washer/dryer, the cabin works well for weekend getaways, longer family stays, and relaxed mountain vacations.
Inside, you’ll find a warm, open living area with vaulted ceilings, a gas fireplace, comfortable gathering space, a large TV, YouTube TV, high-speed Wi-Fi, and a fully equipped kitchen. The cabin is suitable for remote work, email, video meetings, streaming, and internet-based calling through apps such as RingCentral, WhatsApp, Microsoft Teams, FaceTime, or similar services. Cell phone coverage in the area can be limited, which is common in the mountains, so guests who need to make calls should plan to use Wi-Fi calling or app-based calling when needed.
The large front deck is one of the best parts of the cabin. It overlooks the New River and is a peaceful place for morning coffee, reading, conversation, or simply watching the river go by. Guests can access the New River directly from the property. The river entry is a natural step down of about one foot, so guests should use caution and supervise children closely.
The back deck offers a wooded setting with a gas grill, and guests can also enjoy the wood-burning fire pit. Firewood is not provided, so please plan to bring firewood or purchase it locally.
The location gives you the best of Todd: a peaceful riverfront setting, small-town character, and easy access to outdoor adventure. Enjoy tubing, kayaking, fly fishing, biking along Railroad Grade Road, hiking, scenic drives, or visiting local outfitters and shops. Kayaks, tubes, and fishing equipment are not provided, but rentals and outfitters are available nearby.
Todd Mercantile is nearby, and Boone and West Jefferson are both convenient drives for restaurants, shopping, Appalachian State activities, Blue Ridge Parkway outings, skiing, hiking, galleries, and seasonal events.
Please note that we do not accept pets. We love animals, but we keep the cabin pet-free to help reduce allergy issues for guests.
This cabin is also part of our family story. Our grandparents and father were born and raised in Todd, and this land has been in our family for generations. Our dad built the cabin after he retired, and today we share it with guests as a place to rest, renew, and enjoy God’s blessings on the New River.
Many of our guests return year after year because they love the peaceful setting, the river, the deck, the family-friendly layout, and the feeling of being able to slow down. Whether you are planning a family trip, a quiet couple’s retreat, a fishing weekend, a Boone-area getaway, or a simple place to breathe for a few days, our riverfront cabin is ready to welcome you.

Awesome place to stay. Felt like home with all the space and location. Our family enjoyed playing games together at night and snores at the fire pit. Will definitely come back.

So glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you will be back soon!
We didn't have a mountain view. We had a river view since the river flows right in front of the house. The little community of Todd, NC is within easy walking distance and is very friendly and historic. We loved this place.

This was our 2nd stay and we love this cabin. No complaints but do wish they would stock the kitchen with a few more bowls and things to cook with before our next visit. Looking forward to our next stay!
We had a great time with our family. We did some fishing, had a fire in the pit and relaxed. The tv was broken when we arrived (we really wanted to see the Panthers play!) and the owner ordered a new TV and had manager install the next day. Very good customer service! We will definitely consider coming back in the spring/summer to fish and relax again.

Great house for a fun family weekend for App State football game. Property was exactly as described. Clean, plenty of room and the view of the river is beautiful. We enjoyed the front porch and making s’mores at the fire pit. Would definitely recommend and hope to come back soon.

About the host
Hosted by Steve Greer
Our family has deep roots in Todd, North Carolina. Our grandparents and father were born and raised nearby, and this property has been part of our family story for generations. After retiring, our dad fulfilled a dream by building this cabin on land connected to our family, our faith, and the New River community.
After our dad passed away and our mom later needed assisted-living care, we began sharing the cabin with guests through VRBO. Rental income helps support her care, but it also allows us to preserve a place that means a great deal to our family.
We enjoy hosting because this cabin has always been more than a rental to us. It is a place to rest, renew, reconnect with family, and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation. Many of our guests have returned over the years, and we are grateful to share this special place with people who love it as much as we do.
We hope guests feel welcome, comfortable, and refreshed during their stay.
Why they chose this property
Todd is a special High Country community with a rare combination of natural beauty, family history, and small-town character. The New River, mountain views, quiet roads, and friendly local feel make it an ideal place to slow down and enjoy time together.
Our family connection to this area goes back generations. Our grandparents and dad were born nearby, and the church grounds were once located on this property. After the church moved, our grandparents purchased the land, and our dad later built the cabin here after he retired.
We love that guests can enjoy the peaceful riverfront setting while still being close to Boone, West Jefferson, outdoor outfitters, local shops, hiking, tubing, kayaking, fishing, biking, scenic drives, and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
What makes this property unique
This cabin stands out because it combines direct New River access with a real family story. Guests can sit on the large front deck and look out over the river, walk down to the water from the property, enjoy a spacious cabin layout with three queen bedrooms plus a kid-friendly loft trundle, gather around the gas fireplace, cook in the full kitchen, grill on the back deck, relax by the wood-burning fire pit, and use the cabin as a base for tubing, kayaking, fly fishing, biking, hiking, and exploring the High Country.
The property is comfortable, practical, and personal. It sleeps up to 8 guests, with the best fit being 6 adults plus 2 children. It includes high-speed Wi-Fi, YouTube TV, a washer/dryer, 2.5 bathrooms, a main-level primary bedroom with ensuite bathroom, two upstairs queen bedrooms with a shared full bathroom, parking for approximately three vehicles, and enough room for families or small groups to spread out.
Most of all, this is not a generic rental. It is a family cabin with history, purpose, repeat guests, and a peaceful riverfront setting where guests can rest, reconnect, and enjoy God’s blessings.
