Spectacular

Amazing house in a spectacular location. This house is beautiful and well stocked with everything you need for enjoying a Hawaiian vacation. The outside hallways to the separate bedrooms is a really cool feature. We loved having our own rooms and bathrooms for each guest with high quality sheets and towels. Having the Mauna Kea resort so close for golf and beach is an added benefit. We explored the island quite a bit during the day from this location and we looked forward to coming back to it every day. Would highly recommend this home. The owners take good care and the on-site property managers are terrific, too. They went out if their way to make sure we had everything we needed. We hope to come back again.

Christmas Gathering

If you want to stay in a large, roomy, private home, this is your place. Peaceful, and great for a large family or multiple couples. The home is extremely well appointed with anything you would ever need. Every day we were amazed at what we found in the house. The kitchen is gourmet, fully stocked from the coffee to and spices. Every appliance you would ever need. There is a bar that could be a professional restaurant bar. Multiple areas to eat indoors and outdoors with large group seating. The bedrooms were generous and bedding was very good. The layout of the house gave everyone the privacy they needed. The patio/lanai/pool are is newly refurbished and the best part of the property. The jacuzzi, however, is really difficult to operate and we never got it working properly despite being given instructions. The property manager was amazing and highly responsive by phone and text. Even on Christmas Day! We did buy the daily resort fee to get beach access etc. Although no problem getting the passes etc, the hotels were overbooked and for 7 days we were unable to sit at the beach due to not enough beach chairs or umbrellas. This is a Mauna Kea problem, but be aware that holidays are very busy if this is the time you are going and you will face hoards of people! It was great retreating to the peace of the pool and lanai. The downside of this property is that it is older and badly in need of a major renovation. The furniture in the family room is worn and uncomfortable. The bathrooms are not modern and do need also a renovation. For the higher price over the holidays, this was a disappointment. The kitchen area does get very warm, and we were lucky that the winter evenings cooled down, but summer would be a problem in that regards. The AC in the bedrooms does work very well, so sleeping is not a problem. We would stay here again, but not over a holiday period due to the high cost and the crowds. Also the VRBO add on costs are terrible. The host and the property manager are SUPER and very accommodating to our early arrival and later departure needs. Thank you for a great stay. Pam and Family

Summer stay

Superb location and view of the ocean. This is really a very lovely house with lots of room and privacy for a large group. Access to Mona Kea Resort makes this a true resort stay. The layout is fantastic for two families. The property is somewhat older and a few features are not up to date. Our sense is that the property did not get a good maintenance check over before we arrived as certain lighting around the pool had to be fixed by us. One feature that was not positive was that the main portion of the house is not air conditioned and was quite hot, especially the kitchen.

We stayed here for 10 days over Christmas break. It was the perfect set-up for both kids and grandparents alike, with something for everyone! The property is spacious and seems to have everything you may need. The owners and property managers we're very helpful and communicative when we had questions. We can't wait to visit again!

The ultimate Hawaiian home

We really enjoyed our stay after a rough start with flight delays and then getting to the home too late to get any food (the Island really shuts down after 11). Also, please note that you have to go to the Westin (next door) if you want the signing privileges at the Mauna Kea. Totally worth it but I just did not realize I had to go there to get the wristbands, etc. The home was perfect for our 3 adult children. Everyone had their own space. The pool and outdoor area were amazing and it is just a 15 minute walk to the Mauna Kea....best beach on the island. We wanted to book again for next Christmas but already reserved! We hope to be back! Very responsive property manager and owners. Aloha!

Oasis in paradise!

What a gorgeous, authentically Hawaiian property, complete with ample space for 2 families to spread out, and a beautiful sparkling clean pool overlooking the ocean. Our kids loved seeing the geckos around the property as well as the tropical birds. Everyone enjoyed the magical sunset dinners on the lanai as well as the convenient access to both the Mauna Kea and Weston properties for beach fun, snorkeling and golf. The property gives you the best of both worlds. And to top it off the hosts and property managers were incredibly responsive with top notch service. We'll be back.

Lovely home in an idyllic location

There are myriad pluses to this home. The layout (all the bedrooms are separate and private); the pool, yard, and view are all superb and private with gorgeous ocean views. The kitchen is probably the best-equipped kitchen I've ever had in a vacation home. It was fun to try an induction stove! The beds were comfy and well-appointed. My only criticism is that the home seems somewhat dated--but that's a comment on aesthetics because it is in good shape and was super clean, we had a fabulous time, were comfortable, and had everything we needed.

The PERFECT Hawaiian Getaway

A total of nine of us enjoyed this home for our first, Covid-style vacation! It served as the perfect home base for us, providing quiet workspace for parents while children slept; hours of playtime in the pool; a generously outfitted and stocked kitchen; access to the resort amenities with payment of a daily fee; comfortable sleeping quarters; and, gorgeous, inspired landscaping. The property manager was kind, responsive and a pleasure to work with; and, the homeowner always was timely and helpful in her e-mails. We hope to return again to enjoy beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

Awesome Location and very homey "Vintage Hawaii" House

We had an absolutely amazing stay at this home. There were four couples and each had their own room and bathroom. Although there are two masters with en suite bathrooms and double sinks and two much smaller bedrooms with bathrooms in the hall, it still worked well for us. The house has plenty of room within the house and garden for time alone, time in small groups and time all together. The "pod" layout was fantastic for us. We enjoyed many fabulous meals at the large table on the lanai and saw beautiful sunsets and even a rainbow. The early birds were able to get up and enjoy the mornings (even sunrise!) while not disturbing those who slept in. We walked to the Mauna Kea beach....an easy downhill 15 minute stroll (walking back up is how we worked of the cocktails that we drank every night!!), we drove and hiked in Waimea and to "turtle bay." It was so relaxing and quiet and the house manager was very responsive and kept the house beautifully equipped and clean. The owner could not have been nicer and it was obvious that this is a very nice family home that has provided many years of wonderful multi-generational family vacation opportunities. We felt privileged to be able to stay here. We would definitely love to come again!!

Spacious Beautiful Home with Sunset Views

This house is beautifully decorated, spacious and well equipped with sunset views. Our family (4 couples) stayed at this home for 2 weeks in January 2021. We were a doing a combo of vacationing and telecommuting during the pandemic. The house itself lays out wonderfully with the bedrooms on one side and the living space on the other. Each bedroom is in its own pod building. Two of the bedrooms are full spacious king suites with bathrooms and views. The other two bedrooms each have their own adjacent baths (one is a queen and the other can be 2 twins or a king). Each room has its own air conditioner so people can adjust to their preferred sleeping temperature. The living space is amazing. A huge kitchen with every appliance you could imagine and fully stocked with the owners own plates, glasses and knives. There is a barbeque facing the ocean view. There are also two bars with fridges and and one with an icemaker. We had many wonderful evenings at the house watching the sunset while cooking and relaxing. There are multiple areas within the house to hangout. There is from a family room with a large TV and games to a large living room (also with large TV) with sliding doors that open up on 3 sides. There is a game area as well and a separate office with ocean views. The entire house has lightening fast internet (which we appreciated since we were working from home). Furnishings are lovely and comfortable and there is beautiful artwork throughout the house and an amazing collection of books. For dining there are 2 tables - each holding 8 or more comfortably. One inside (with windows on 3 sides) and one outdoors under the lanai. The outdoor area is well equipped with a pool large enough to do short laps and a hot tub. There are multiple seating areas and 8 separate lounge chairs with cushions. The outdoor area is well situated with spots in the sun or shade depending on your preference (and there are umbrellas). We also took advantage of the opportunity as a resident guest to use the Mauna Kea facilities for an extra charge including beach chairs and towels and the fitness center. The homeowner and property manager were a delight to work with and very responsive always checking in with us to see if we needed anything. We highly recommend this home.

What a great house for a large family!

Everything was great. The property is beautiful and quiet. The location, in North Kohala, is close to Waimea and far from the bustle of Kona. The Mauna Kea resort beach was a short drive and idyllic. The house actually consisted of two houses-one contains the kitchen, dining and living areas, etc and the other house contains the 4 bedrooms-it gave us plenty of room to spread around. The private, large pool was an ideal temperature and super enjoyable for our large family. I'd rent this house again without hesitation.

Stunning sunsets!

The very best spot on the less rainy side of the Big Island! Quiet, private, snorkeling in Mauna Kea Bay, close to the Fish House for fresh fish, nearby Farmer’s Market, perfect beach with towels and friendly bar/restaurant. You can’t help but have a great time here! The house has a near perfect layout with plenty of room for privacy and camaraderie. Eating outside as you watch the sunset, pool long enough for a few laps, super solicitous owner and staff. Delicious air!

Our property is owned by two couples.

Why they chose this property

We bought this property for our extended family and friends to celebrate holidays and special occasions. We wanted to be within the gates of the Mauna Kea resort, enjoy a private retreat with spectacular views, and have a heated pool - a feature that is necessary in the winter months.

What makes this property unique

This is a very relaxing and comfortable home. The individual pods make group living really easy. We love the location - a simple drive or a scenic walk to our favorite beach in the world, and we treasure the privacy and views from every room. We have been fortunate to share our home with many friends, and pleased to know how much they enjoyed their stay.
