A shorter route is the one leading to the pierced mountain which is linked to the legend of Monterpertuso. It is said that the hole was the result of a bet between the lady and the devil. The forces of evil tried in every way to pierce the big mountain but the lady pierced with only forefinger winning over the devil and pushing it to suicide. On July 2, the country celebrates the Madonna recalling the legend with a special and characteristic representation pyrotechnics in the mountain.
