The place is quaint and clean. The bedroom upstairs is small for a couple. Shops are nearby and a lot of restaurants to eat with variety of cuisines. Easy access for trains to go. Host are easy to contact if needed. Thank you
From the owner the neighborhood, this place couldn't have been more perfect. It was an easy walk to the metro which got us absolutely everywhere we wanted to go with our weekly pass. Helene is wonderful and was incredibly helpful when we arrived. Her place is not a palace, but it was comfortable, accessible and enveloped us in warmth. I could not have asked for a better week in Paris. I hope to return to this charming abode as soon as humanly possible.
We loved our week long stay in this apartment! We loved the area… friendly neighborhood with great shops/restaurants and metro stations close by (~5-10 min walk). Our kids (10, 8 & 6) loved the nearby parks with excellent playgrounds. The apartment slept all 5 of us comfortably and had everything we needed. We enjoyed having so much space to spread out after long days out touring around. The host was very friendly & helpful. We rate this property 4.5/5 (only because of the longer metro rides to get to some of the sights, although we did appreciate not staying in one of the busier areas of Paris). We would happily return to stay in this property.
Confortable and spacious apartment in a nice location.
We had a wonderful stay in this apartment, it’s spacious and quiet and well furnished with all you can need. The bed was very confortable, there was a well sized table and a big desk upstairs that’s ideal for working. The aparment faces a small interior courtyard that’s so quiet and nice with a tree just out of the window. The apartment has some great personality and it’s just like in the photos.
The neigbourhood is very full of life and nice, with everything you need just a few minutes away (supermarket, bakery, etc.), and the transports not too far away, just a 5-6 minutes walk from two metro stations (Ménilmontant and Gambetta). If you have some problem walking, however, keep in mind that the street is very steep, but there’s a bus stop just a few steps from the house door.
Hélène was very helpful and communicative during our stay and has been a nice and kind host. It’s her private house, so please respect her apartment and treat it well.

a run down apartment in need for repair
This is a very dated and run down property.
The most glaring con is that the front door lock does not work properly and we found ourselves stranded outside of the apartment at 11 pm , and unable to unlock the door, the owner was not immediately available.
Multiple issues with the apartment- non functioning plumbing in the toilet upstairs, no hair dryer, malfunctioning iron and the list goes on.
Also a few small details- interestingly, most cups in the cupboard had chipped off edges, bath towels are worn out and with holes, and all the blankets are small sized - we had to use multiples of them since it was cold.
The neighborhood is OK, unless you go further up the hill towards metro Gambetta- I wouldn't recommend venturing there at night - if you are arriving late then choose the Menilmontant metro station.
Overall, this was the worst apartment out of 3 properties we've stayed at during our French trip.

En: I admit that the lock was hard to open but the apartment having two entry doors, I explained to the tenants that it was possible to use the second door, easier to open.
Just arrived in the apartment tenants flooded me with messages about the lack of some objects (like a hair dryer, not really essential in the middle of summer) or an iron, yet in good working order they did not know how to make it work.
It is quite surprising that people who do not know the neighborhood can express an opinion that it is "dangerous". Having lived there for more than twenty years, I can assure that the neighborhood does not present any particular risk.
Concerning chipped cups, it is unfortunately the fact of tenants who, when they are not at home, do not really take care of objects. Redeeming dishes after the departure of each tenant would require me to increase the amount of the rent and the deposit considerably.
In this regard, the tenants lost a set of keys to the apartment. As it is an armored door, the cost to have it redone (key plus access badge to the building) has exceeded by nearly 40 euros the amount of the deposit (120 euros) that I had to hold back. The tenant did not even bother to respond to the request I made her to assume this additional cost. Finally, when they left, the tenants left an impressive amount of dirty sheets, blankets and towels on the floor ... Among the many holidaymakers of many origins who stayed in my apartment, these tenants were among the most complicated and the least caring. I therefore recommend to the owners who would intend to rent them their apartment in the future, to adjust the amount of the deposit according to the information provided above.

Comfort AND space: a rare commodity!
Helene, the apartment’s owner, could not have been more helpful or more accommodating throughout the process, from start to finish. Gabrielle, Helene’s neighbor, greeted us and let us in, checked to see how we were doing, and rescued us with a phone call in an emergency. You simply could not ask for more or better from Helene in every possible way.
He apartment is located some 4-5 blocks from the nearest Metro, on a steadily mounting hill. It is a climb; not terrible by any means, but a person with impaired walking or breathing might find it more than wanted.
The living room has a two-seat sofa, and that’s it for comfortable sitting space; the rest are hard, wooden folding chairs. The room would g benefit from 2-3 easy chairs for reading, for conversation, for relaxing, and there is more than sufficient space for such.
The apartment is situated on what an American would consider the second floor, that is, one flight of stairs up from the ground. The stairs between the first and second floors of the interior of the apartment itself are extremely narrow and steep and curving. Again, if anyone has mobility difficulties, the stairs could be problematic.
The neighborhood is delightful, with grocery stores (large and small), barbers, beauticians, pharmacies, bakeries (one less than one half block up from the apartment!), pastry shops, clothing boutiques, etc. etc. There’s a little bit of everything right at your hand on the very street!
There is an open-air market twice a week, Tuesdays and Fridays. If you like the atmosphere and the traffic of a bazaar, you’ll be thrilled. It features essentially fresh food (vegetables and fruits and meats [including whole goats’/sheep’s heads!!!]) along with smatterings of clothing, household goods, jewelry, etc.
Once you have mastered the Metro system (and it’s not that hard), you have the entire city at your disposal. A one-way Metro ticket currently costs $1.90 (but if you buy a “carnet,” a packet of ten tickets, the price drops to $1.49). A readable map with the Metro system clearly marked is essential. I’d suggest a small red covered book (currently costing 8.90 Euro), which gives Metro lines, streets, railroad lines, and neighborhoods (arrondissements) with most streets. I find it invaluable. It’s called: Paris Classique, L’Indispensable.
Be sure to speak with the owner, Helene, about a problem with the lock on the apartment’s main door; she was to have it fixed right after we left; just check to be sure.
