This very comfortable, fully renovated, three-bedroom, two-bath home is located only a five-minute walk from a spectacular, private-access, wide sandy beach. The house is sited on a very private one-acre lot bordered by conservation land and a bayou. You can watch the wonderful birds of Sanibel, look for seashells in the sand, sun yourself in the secluded back yard, kayak in the bayou, or swim in the outdoor pool.

The house was fully renovated in 2024 with all new appliances. The open floor plan, the restored terrazzo floors, and the beautiful marble and dolomite countertops in the kitchen and bathroom give this house an elegant, spacious feel.

Located in prestigious Chateaux Sur Mer, a friendly neighborhood with large lots, privacy, and an Old Florida feel. Relax in the spacious living room, or birdwatch from the comfortable lanai overlooking the bayou. This convenient, ground-level house has a master suite with a king bed and private bath, plus two bedrooms and a bath in a separate wing of the house.

Activities to enjoy on Sanibel include bicycling to nearby Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge, visiting the historic lighthouse, the Sunday Farmers’ Market, art galleries, craft fairs, trying your hand at Sanibel’s famous shell collecting, taking canoe and bike trails, and seeking the elusive green flash over the Gulf of Mexico at sunset.

You can’t ask for a quieter, more private location for a relaxing Sanibel visit, with convenient access to one of the most beautiful beaches you will ever find!

Birdwatching from the house just keeps getting better! Just a few weeks ago, we had dozens of great egrets, snowy egrets, ibises, roseate spoonbills, and wood storks in the bayou just behind the house.

Amenities include a large-screen cable TV, wireless high-speed Internet, washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, air fryer, linens, beach chairs, and a gas barbecue.

Guests are welcome to use the three kayaks and the bikes (two colorful, fun cruiser bikes and one tuned-up 10-speed).

We loved this house, large rooms with a wonderful Florida room. Pictures do not do this house justice. The landscape is lush and tropical. The wildlife was exciting. We saw ibis, egrets, blue herons, and many others. This house has all sorts of books for identifying the wildlife and shells. We loved using the binoculars. We rode the bikes to the beach and used the chairs provided.

Another great stay in this relaxing house. Close (walking distance) to very private beach. Quiet, beautiful neighborhood, lots of nature and wildlife in your own backyard! We were fortunate to see many kinds of birds, turtles, aligator and even iquana! Nice pool with a shower and pool/beach toys!! We also enjoyed sunroom, even in the summer. You can also use two of their bikes! Thank you for sharing your house and perfect vacation!

GETTING AWAY IN COMPLETE PRIVACY

We stayed at this home in Aug/17. John was a complete gentleman throughout our booking, providing information, and promptly responded to any queries we had while at his home. We were in the pool every day as it is very private/secluded and well looked after. The vintage bicycles were our principal means of just exploring Sanibel and Captiva, although our car rental was always available. This home is well stocked and equipped with everything you will need for a vacation stay. Stores/shopping are all within a 10-15 minute bike ride or less in the car. Access to the beach is close by and without any issues..ie do not have to worry about parking/availability or whatever. Dolphins put on a private show for us one day. A number of them took turns jumping completely out of the water, no less than (we counted ) 32 times, doing flips and splashing about! Amazing!! Most days otherwise, we were by ourselves while enjoying the warm gulf waters. During our stay we also encountered owls, woodpeckers, turtles, a 5 foot Iguana, any number or other bird species. and, if you go looking there is no shortage of 'gators' to be found. One day, while cycling back from (Bailey's) shopping, on West Gulf Drive we discovered a large gator stuck in a driveway overpass conduit. We went to C.R.O.W. to advise them of an animal in distress, wherein they phoned and had Wildlife Services come and extract the gator to relocate! Overall this was the best home/vacation we have had in this area in nine years. A very private oasis located in a friendly and safe neighborhood. The reasons for not giving a 5 star rating are due to personal preferences, (would have preferred a queen/king masterbed, some appliances, dishes, need to be update or refreshed), and do not reflect negatively on the entire experience. John, one feature you should be advertising is the outdoor shower!! I think we only used the indoor showers 3-4 days. Whether coming back from the beach, from cycling, or out of the pool we found this to be a welcome, 'must do' refreshing part of our day. We look forward to rebooking asap. The weather in these parts, in August is hot and you can count on threats of rain or thunderstorm activity most afternoons/nights; but by this time we needed to heat out of the sun/heat!...and this is why we are here in August. We hope the island and all the homes in the area survived the onslaught of 'IRMA'.

Seculded Wildlife Retreat

We stayed in this house in June of 2016 & had a wonderful time. This is a great house in a secluded neighborhood. It's a short walk to the beach & there was next to NO ONE on the beach as far as the eye could see. It was almost like a private beach. It is right on a creek so we saw lots of wildlife & the pool was enjoyed daily. The owner was very accommodating & would promptly respond to any questions I had before & during our stay. I would recommend this house to anyone looking to get away from it all.

A Sanibel Summer

My family stayed in this Chateaux Sur Mer house during the month of July, 2015. Our time here was just wonderful. From the beginning of my inquiry through the end of our stay, the owners were extremely responsive and delightful to work with. The house was spotless upon our arrival and is well equipped with everything we needed for a month away from home. I cooked in the kitchen everyday and it did not lack anything necessary to prepare family meals. All the appliance are relatively new and there is a propane grill in the back yard for cook outs. My kids practically lived in the pool which was clean, warm, and maintained by a pool guy weekly. The gorgeous and nearly deserted beach is a short bike ride from the home, and the owners provided chairs, towels and an umbrella for our use. The neighborhood is quiet and safe and very private. We spent hours watching the spectacular birds from the porch and the ubiquitous lizards dart around the yard. Sanibel is a natural paradise and we were forlorn when our time came to an end. Our only consolation was knowing that we will be back!

My name is Betsy Tobin and I live in Boulder, Colorado where I have small theatre company called Now Or Never Theatre. I inherited this wonderful house from my mother. She spent her last years among good friends in Chateaux-sur-Mer between the pool and the beach, swimming, walking, and watching the birds and dolphins.

Our house filled with 4.5 feet of water during the storm surge from Hurricane Ian in September 2022. This led to a full remodel. The house is beautiful with updated appliances and two wings to accommodate friends and family.

Why they chose this property

The house was purchased by our late mother, Barbara, and she loved the tranquility and natural surroundings of the house.
