About this property
Super Central, Spacious Luxe 2BR, 2 Bath
The Space This thoughtfully designed 1145 sq. ft home with a private 300 sq. ft covered verandah. The suite combines function and style in a spacious, open format that is comfortably contemporary and warm.
Prepare breakfast in the comfort of your well-appointed European kitchen. Later, host a lunch or dinner for friends, or business colleagues. The dining table extends to seat up to 6 in the open concept living area.
Curl up and enjoy the glow of the fireplace. The mantel and the pass through/eating bar are both live edge maple slabs. On warm evenings take your cocktails and dinner onto the porch. Or, you could simply kick back on the comfy deck chairs looking out on the age-old trees and the passers-by.
Indulge in a relaxing getaway with our spa-inspired bathroom. Pour a glass of wine and soak your cares away in the deep, freestanding soaker tub. Premium fixtures, plush towels and other necessaries, it is the perfect retreat after a long day of exploring the city. The 2nd bathroom, the master ensuite is a 3-piece with a shower.
What makes for a good night’s sleep? Our mattresses will do their part. Choose between a Silk and Snow king in the master or two separate XL twin beds which are Posturepedic Libretto Eurotops in the 2nd bedroom. The XL beds can be combined into a true king bed on request.
The Internet is full high speed and your mobile device can be paired to the Bluetooth sound bar.
Climate Control Summer shade from the large maple trees that line the street. A quiet A/C (air-condition) sufficiently robust to cool the entire suite. Quiet fans for each bedroom. Very thick walls and double pane windows to minimize temperature swings and to dampen outside noise.
Guest Access Private, front path with level street access. A large, designated park spot at the back of the property accessed from the rear lane with a private side path to front door. The entry door has a keypad with a unique code for each rental.
Your Host Host Mark is available to answer questions in person and/or via phone/text/email. He will welcome you personally, to both familiarize you with the apartment, and to answer any questions.
The Neighbourhood Mount Pleasant is Vancouver’s first suburb and was referred in the early 1900, as “The Hill”. In 1991, Mount Pleasant was connected to downtown Vancouver by streetcar on the Main Street Bridge across False Creek. This house was built three blocks west of Main Street at an elevation which was considered the top of the hill, with a view of Vancouver. The house is representative of the wave of “fine” new homes built in the Mount Pleasant West before the False Creek flats were filled in, at the start of the urban sprawl made possible by the introduction of the automobile. As such you are within 5 minutes’ walk from just about everything you may need or want. Currently this neighbourhood has beautiful multifamily homes, many new, but mostly West Mount Pleasant originals built from 1910 to 1920, on a quiet tree lined street. People are friendly and taking a stroll is a common activity. The resident mix is young and old, owners and renters, and the vibe is decidedly happy to be here and amid the calm it feels like things are happening. Main Street is considered one of the 5 most interesting streets in Canada. From people watching, to perfect coffee, eclectic and homey restaurants, wine shops, groceries and a vibrant casual night life it's easy to see why Main is so loved. Our favourite nearby coffee/bakery is the Mighty Oak.
Getting Around The Canada Line from the airport to downtown (The Broadway Station) is 7 blocks away. Every necessary amenity is 3 to 5 blocks easy walk away. The east/west transit bus line (Broadway) is 4 hocks south. The north/south transit bus lines are 3 blocks away on both Cambie (into the downtown core) and Main (to China Town and Gas Town). Bike Lanes are every 4 blocks in all directions and have traffic calming features and are heavily used. The sidewalks are well maintained and crosswalks abound. We have a dedicated park spot for your car. Most of Vancouver is metered parking, or residents only, but 1- and 2-hours zones are common away from major routes. From the airport it is 15minutes by taxi or take the Canada Line to the Broadway/City Hall Station. It is seven blocks from there to the suite.
About the House This 1913 Craftsman Style house was designed by architect Edward Evans Blackmore (1879-1929). Amongst other buildings, he designed the English Bay Bath House in 1908, the Pantages in 1909, and several downtown warehouses and prestigious schools in Vancouver. Edward also designed several frame houses in the West End for prominent individuals, most of which have been destroyed. The Bobby Gaul house, as this house is known, is by far the best remaining example of his residential work. The house is distinctive for its front dormer projecting above the main roof’s ridge, thus creating the appearance of comparable stature with its Edwardian neighbours. The garden is verdant west coast meets French parterre. The 100+ year old Maple trees create a cathedral like street scape and are a seamless extension to the house's garden. This suite is the entire main floor with a very large private verandah. Parking is on the property, at the back of the house.
House Rules 1) From 10pm until 8am please keep the noise way down. 2) No shoes at all in the house. 3) No smoking and sorry, but no pets. 4) The agreed upon number of tenants not to be exceeded. 5) No parties

Mark has excellent and timely communication and was kind enough to meet and welcome our young adult kids when they arrived in an earlier flight. The listing is spot on, the property perfect for a small family, and the neighborhood is wonderful. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back.
We had a wonderful stay. The location was convenient. We made a few meals in the well stocked kitchen. Easy parking for our rental car. Overall we were comfortable and felt welcomed.

Teresa, thank you for choosing to stay here. It was lovely to meet you and your family - Mark
Great stay! Location was perfect. On a very quiet beautiful street but only a short walk to shops, restaurants and cafes. Host was very friendly and extremely accommodating. Accomodations were exactly as described and did not disappoint. Would definitely nicely book again.
We were exceedingly happy with our stay. It was a lovely home in a beautiful street, very residential and quiet for a major city. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch for meals and relaxation. We appreciated the comfortable rooms and the kitchen was a plus. We would absolutely stay here again!
Mark was a great host. He gave us some good tips on dining and the local area. The unit was clean and functional. All amenities were easy to use and functional.

Kim, it was a pleasure having you here! Thank you.
Great spot! Plenty of room for four adults, beautiful patio to enjoy the summer evenings after dinner. Mark and Jo are great hosts. Lovely neighborhood and close to everything we wanted to do.
We loved our stay in Vancouver, and this house contributed to a very relaxing, fun and easy experience. The neighborhood is residential, quiet, safe and 5-10-minute walking distance to Main Street and Cambie Street which have many great restaurants. Every morning, we enjoyed a quick 5-minute walk to a café. In the evenings, we went out for dinner to Rong-Si, Vij's, Anh and Chi and Via Tevere Main Street - all very good restaurants. The house was very comfortable for our family of four. It was very clean and well-equipped with kitchen and dining utensils. Communications with Mark was easy and he was very responsive before and during the stay. Parking in the back of the house was perfect.During our 3-day stay in Vancouver, we rented bikes and enjoyed biking along the water and around the city and Stanley Park (they have dedicated biking paths all over the city); we went to visit the beautiful campus of UBC; and hiking in Lynn Canyon Park (waterfalls, very lush, 30 minutes away). The house is also 5 minutes away from public transportation - the subway and ferry were very easy to navigate. We highly recommend this house and would stay there again without hesitation when visiting Vancouver.

Juan, so sweet that you enjoyed your stay! Thank you very much - Mark
We love this comfortable place in a special Vancouver neighbourhood. As friends living far from each other we were happy to stay here--for the second time. We enjoyed the large porch and an outing to Kitsilano Beach. Definitely a place to return to. Thank you Mark!

Sean, it's great to hear that you enjoyed your stay! All the best - Mark and Jo
Mark was very communicative before and during our stay. We had no issues but we did meet him a couple of days in to our stay. The house is just gorgeous. A beautiful quiet street, everything you could need is here, and cleanliness is 5 stars. The bed was so comfortable we slept like logs after 2 weeks of hotel beds. Most of all I appreciated the small things like premium tissues and toilet paper - some home owners can be a bit cheap on those things. Full size kitchen with fridge and we cooked several nights. Parking spot is perfect. We would love to return one day and will recommend Marks place to anyone we know going to Vancouver.

Susan, we don't hold back. I am very happy that you so enjoyed your stay!! Mark
Wonderful location, absolutely spotless, accommodating hosts! The bedrooms were actually much larger than they appeared in the listing, with enormous closets that fit the supplied travel crib perfectly (with loads of room to spare) so our infant basically had their own room.
Enjoyed our stay, great space that is clean and modern. Mark and Jo are attentive to the details that make a stay comfortable. Lovely and walkable neighborhood. We’ll be back!

This historic home and neighborhood was very pleasant! The home was clean and well equipped and Mark was a great host! He met us personally and showed us the highlights, gave us tips on coffee shops and places to see and even helped us get our luggage in! The neighborhood was quiet, beautifully tree lined and great for walking. We walked to the coffee shop/bakery, and the grocery store and church! Awesome all around!

About the host
Hosted by Mark or Joanne
I grew up south of Vancouver and Joanne is from Sydney, Australia. We met skiing in Colorado at Steamboat Springs. We still love to ski, between Whistler and Japan, but we also like warm weather pursuits. Especially Cuban salsa dancing and music, preferably while we are in Cuba, but we are not too picky. Joanne is a university professor and I am happy go lucky into early retirement. I keep out of trouble by teaching a little skiing each winter and organic gardening. I am the cook and handyman and Jo is the brains of the outfit. We enjoy traveling with Spain being a favorite of ours, both for cycling and walking. Our kids are two standard poodles that get their hair cut every 5 weeks at 'Trish's Place'. I do my own hair with clippers so you know who's getting the special treatment. It's fun to be a host. We had many great examples of how to do a great job in our VRBO travels, so no excuses.
Why they chose this property
Firstly the house is in such a wonderfully tranquil neighborhood surrounded by other beautiful homes, most of which are multi-suite. This makes for a vibrant and interesting mix of people. Secondly, we are so close to so much that 'getting into it' is only so many blocks away. Thirdly, the apartment was renovated to a high standard with thought into what would be required and what would be appreciated - The comments suggest that we hit a sweet spot.
What makes this property unique
A beautiful space in a wonderful fully updated property on a quite street mere blocks form so much of what makes Vancouver a vibrant, memorable city.
