Sunset

Perfect in every way, from the gorgeous sunsets to the comfiest bed to the very romantic ambiance. We could not have asked for anything that was not available, this is our second visit to Lis Sur Mere this winter and are looking forward to a return visit.

Wonderful Winter Getaway

My husband & I were looking for a pandemic-safe getaway for a few nights & found the perfect spot at the Beach Cottage at Lis Sur Mer in Truro. The weather was windy & cold, but the cottage was inviting & cozy. We checked in at 4pm after a delicious lunch at Fanizzi's in Provincetown. The cottage was so appealing at dusk with its flaming outdoor lanterns. We unpacked (plenty of closet & dresser space in the master bedroom), then headed down the staircase outside for a walk on the very private beach. We then grabbed a bottle of wine & our Bose speaker & sat in the Adirondack chairs atop the bluff, listening to the sound of the waves lapping on the shore. So idyllic, 'til we realized that we had locked ourselves out. We placed a couple of calls, & the response was immediate (thank you, Jane & Peter)! The gas-powered stove in the kitchen, along with the heating units in the hallway & master bedroom kept us very comfortable, so much so, that I dared to take an Inauguaration Day ocean plunge followed by a wonderfully-warm shower. The cottage is perfect, whether you want to use it as a home-base as you head out on your adventures, or if you want to just stay in & stay cozy. I enjoyed time reading & rug-hooking. The view is incredible ... I can only imagine how special it would be to stay here in the summertime with all the windows wide open! We enjoyed some great meals in P'town: dinner in an igloo at Liz's Cafe just as the snowflakes began falling, dinner in front of the massive fireplace at Ciro & Sal's, & a wonderful extended lunch at the Squealing Pig on the day we checked out. We highly recommend this property & are so grateful to Peter for rearranging his maintenance schedule to accommodate our 3-night stay.

Entirely Special

Chris and I took the dogs for a winter escape and we were all charmed into dreamy contentment. The sea and the sky are featured inside and out- it’s amazing to be right there on the bluff for sunrise and sunset. We are grateful for the essence of old Cape Cod found here, and the special time we shared in this rustic, private setting Thank you!

Spectacular in any season

The Beach cottage was full of charm and surrounded by beauty. Albeit a (very) cold February weekend, the views from the cottage made us feel like we were at the beach! We had everything we needed and more for a relaxing escape on the Cape. It's an amazing oasis and only 10 minutes from vibrant Provincetown! Can't wait to visit again.

The Cottage Dream

LOVED IT!!! If you want to be absolutely transported into a kind of surreal natural getaway from a past-gone era, to restore your faith in the world in reconnect to nature and solitude - this your place. It oozes with charm and beauty. ( but you can still watch Netflixx or dine at a foodie restaurant if you want) Ticks my every box: 1)the view - all you see is Ocean, right on a a selcuded private beach 2) the location - 8 min to Ptown but off the grid, free of any chaos and congestion, 3) the affordability, comfort and ease of access. - check-in was a breeze, rules and info all clear, has everything you need for a relaxing time and the most reasonable deal in the area for what you get. can not rec'd more highly. So grateful to have had a stay in this fantatstic rental. !!!

Idyllic Getaway

We were delighted with our stay at the beach cottage of Lis Sur Mer. The building is more than spacious for two guests, clean, well-equipped, and convenient for the exploration of natural and cultural features of the area. It has exceptional “atmosphere” — peace and beauty in all directions, both inside and out. Morning coffee in the sheltered patio, birdwatching from the front deck, watching the bay and the gas fireplace from the sofa at dusk: this placed is designed to comfort and please. Paintings and well-chosen reclaimed materials enrich the surroundings. Reservations went smoothly, and staff were pleasant and helpful while respecting our privacy. This was just what we hoped for.

It couldn't possibly have been improved upon! We hope to go back again and again.

I'd call it faux rustic...simple in a Shaker kind of way but not uncomfortable. The view is fantastic and the weather was changeable so we saw the Bay in many moods. Please never change a thing!

The Cottage at Lis Sur Mer on top of the sand dune overlooking Cape Cod Bay is a suberb location.

In prior years we have been beach side on either the Atlantic or the Nantucket Sound as I love to sleep hearing the surf so we went to the Bay beach side in 2018. To my pleasure the surf could be heard all day and the water was white capping on a number off days during our week of June stay. We loved the quaint Cottage and we usually do not repeat a location, but we plan to return to the Lis Sur Mer Cottage in 2019.

Great getaway, even in the teeth of a storm

So.. We arrived at the Beach Cottage the day before a Nor'easter storm came barreling in. We were more than a bit nervous about being on a bluff above the ocean with hurricane-force winds, but the staff at Lis sur Mer set us at ease immediately. The caretaker checked in at the right moments and we had ready access to the housekeeper if needed. The gas fireplace was a lifesaver when the power went out - though do note that the water is well drawn (no water in power outages) and the cook stove is electric, which is an annoyance even when you do have power. Besides that, the cottage was very well appointed and super cozy even in pretty horrific weather. It really is a great getaway.

Wonderful cottage by the sea

The Beach Cottage was beautifully situated so we could see and hear the bay from most every room. It was wonderful to see the water upon waking in the morning and to hear the waves crashing at night. There is an amazing sense of light and tranquility about the house. It is charming and although small, has everything you need to be comfortable. We were relaxed and slept wonderfully. Certainly one of a kind. We can't wait to return!

Just what we needed after a long and difficult year.

If you need a place to go where you can rest, relax and recharge your batteries, look no further. We have a place on Lake Champlain but it is not accessible during the winter months. Lis Sur Mer provided the retreat we needed this December. It is clean, well equipped and quite private. It is right on the water. It is warm, comfortable and quaint. What more can I say? Turn off your phone and let you worries melt away. Thank you to our hosts at Lis Sur Mer, we hope to be back.

The most tranquil place anywhere...

My fiance' and I spent an all-too-short 4 days here in April and it was, simply put, the most tranquil place I've ever visited. The cottage transports you to another time and another place altogether....it's like you're in a cottage in Calais in the 30's or something. I cannot think of another place that is as romantic and peaceful as this place!

About the host

Hosted by Lis Sur Mer

Host profile image
Your host is an entrepreneur in the arts who has spent the last 40 years traveling internationally for business. While his stateside base is most often New York City, he has taken every opportunity in his travels to seek refuge in quaint European villages. His appreciation of these historic havens was a great part of the inspiration for Lis Sur Mer.

Why they chose this property

Lis Sur Mer was originally an exclusive family compound and retreat until 15 years ago when he began opening it up to visitors. With Lis Sur Mer he has created a storybook compound renowned for its privacy, romance and renewal. Built from the fruits of the sea and recycled building of past centuries, inspired in part by the concept of the famous artist dune shacks of Provincetown, the aesthetic is a French fishing village mated with Old Cape Cod. Visiting Lis Sur Mer is an adventure in escaping modern frenzy and McMansions, getting back to the basic joy of natural beauty with extraordinary gardens, awe at every vista, and total cultural refuge. At the same time high speed internet and HD TV quietly co-exist. There is no place on Cape Cod like Lis Sur Mer. The word most often used to describe Lis Sur Mer is “magical” … Bring your inner artist.
