We loved this charming, cosy and peaceful cottage, maintained to high standard and in a picturesque and quiet village. This is a very attractive area - we enjoyed some spectacular walks. Paul and Wills were very welcoming and always on hand to help if needed. We hope to come back before too long.
My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights . What a beautiful peaceful place . Wills & Paul are amazing hosts , friendly , informative and very approachable . The cottage is beautifully restored and very comfortable . The area is so scenic and there are lots of places to visit locally.
I’d love to live here !!!
I booked a 3 night stay at the Packhorse recently. What a rare find in such an idyllic location. Our host was very friendly and helpful. Our accommodation was spotless, very comfortable and my only regret was that we didn’t stay longer. I look forward to another visit. Thank you!
What a great cottage, such a warm welcome by the hosts, Will & Paul. Stable cottage is well equipped, warm and cozy but with plenty of room. We had a cream tea awaiting us on arrival which was a lovely touch. The beds were so comfortable, we slept so well. The location is also great. Just a short drive to the National Park, beach and local market towns. We will most certainly be staying again. Highly recommended!
Fam. M. Paul aus Dresden
We had a great time at The Packhorse. The accommodation and village were beautiful. Linda and Brian were lovely and very knowledgeable about the area.

About the host
Hosted by Wills Virgo
The Garner family did a life change in 2000, moving from Oxfordshire to Exmoor to run this small holiday complex in this unique picturesque National trust village of Allerford. Our two young children were 3yrs & 6yrs 20 years on the girls have flown from the Pack horse nest, Brian and I still love welcoming guests to this very special part of Exmoor a real gem just of the beaten track but a little peace of England at its best.
Why they chose this property
Stable cottage is situated in the corner of our pretty packhorse courtyard, the river Aller runs alongside our building and so the sound of the babbling water can be heard as you step out from the stable door, handmade double glazed cottage windows mean it unfortunately cannot be heard when your inside Unless you have the windows or door open 😊 The Packhorse is situated in the the picturesque National Trust village of Allerford with the river running through the heart, although only stones throw from the A39 you
