This is without doubt the sweetest place we have ever been to. Small but perfect for me and my husband. The swimming looks over a huge panoramic of the french vineyards, which was amazing and the hot tub and american fridge that also dispensed ice cubes was great. There's a little town really close which was perfect to get bread and food in the morning and it also has a few restaurants which was great. It's super private and surprising well kitted out for a small property. This place feels like concentrated france! I recommend.

Thank you!
We try our best to make it romantic and I think that 'small & perfectly formed' is probably the best way to describe the way I like to have it presented. I couldn't agree more with your description - & the fact that you're on your own up there but can get to the little town with such ease is indeed a bonus. 'Concentrated France' is an inspired description...so glad you enjoyed it!
Hope to maybe see you again sometime!

Quirky luxury amongst vineyards
My husband and I had a lovely week at the windmill. It really is better than the photographs show. I want to tell all my friends about it but on the other hand keep it to myself so it doesn't get too busy and we can go back again!
We took our bikes and cycled to Monsegur for groceries. There's a lovely boulangerie in the market square and lots of bars/cafes. If you are an experienced cyclist you'll love the hill climbs! We cooked every day at the windmill, making good use of the bbq. The small kitchen had everything we needed. The fridge with ice and filtered water on tap was much appreciated. The pool is great on hot days and the jacuzzi was real luxury! I loved all the different choices of outside seating/lounging options so you can always find a bit of shade if wanted.
I found the stone steps were a bit of a challenge at night. I would advise caution to those with reduced mobility or small children. A week at the windmill is just right I think. It's the most magical place and we properly relaxed. We hope to return!

I'm so glad you enjoyed your holiday...!
Yes- I would agree with you about the steps .In fact, that's exactly as I describe it: unsuitable for the physically challenged or small children Or indeed people who have had too much to drink! However, there's always a plus side : they're great if you want to tone your legs a little...and you've got to get to the lovely lounge with its panoramic views somehow!!
Bringing bikes is a good idea- we used to provide them but couldn't keep up with the damage that seemed to be pretty constant, but it's great for cycling or walking around there.
The US fridge is a relatively new addition so you don't have to lug any heavy water bottles in with you and I personally wouldn't live without that 'luxury' over here in the summer with the ice cubes & cool water on tap.It makes quite a difference to your comfort in the hot summer. It all helps the de-stressing experience.
You'd be welcome back any time.

A wonderful mini-moon in the sun!
We had an absolutely wonderful time at the tower! We stayed for the week after our wedding with our little dog Louis and loved every second - especially the gorgeous pool!! The tower is in a fantastic location with oustanding views of the surrounding vineyards. The garden is just perfect with lots of outdoor seating and a great BBQ area. Thanks so much to Rita for making our stay so special and all the lovely extras!

Get away from it all
We loved our week in the windmill! Received a warm welcome from Rita, who also kindly left a stash of provisions including two bottles of wine, pizza, salad, crisps, chocolate and other essentials to help us settle in. Plus treats for Molly the dog of course! The windmill is rustic and characterful - small but very well equipped. The outside is fantastic - the pool, the hot tub, the view... Totally peaceful and private in a beautiful part of France. Nearby town Monsegur has a lovely boulangerie for breakfast and we loved Sauveterre de Guyenne - very friendly tourist information office who took us on a quirky tour of the town with a glass of wine to finish. St Emilion only 40 minutes drive for wine connoisseurs but lots of lovely wine more locally - Maison du Vins in Duras very good, also friendly and you can try lots of different local wines. Thanks Rita - we'll be back!

Fabulous, unique place to stay with amazing views of local countryside .
Beautiful setting and the windmill itself a unique and special property with fabulous views of the wonderful surrounding countryside from the pool area and very top of the windmill. As stated in the discription and previous guests, the stairs inside are steep and must be managed with extreme care. Rita our host was welcoming & there to meet us on arrival despite our delays en route and she provided some essential goodies for us which were very much appreciated. We had a lovely holiday full of wonderful memories of this characterful and unique place to stay in a beautiful region of France

A little paradise
We had a fantastic week at La tour. It was perfect for us and our two jack Russell dogs. We loved the views, the large garden area, the swimming pool and the hot tub. We enjoyed cooking food on the barbecue each evening.
It was easy to get provisions from the charming town of Monsegur, where there is a small supermarket. We also went to La reole for a bigger supermarket and to get the vet treatment for our dogs before our return to the UK. We visited a charming market in Sauveterre.
The views from the sail room were magnificent and watching the Monday night storm was amazing. Overall, we had fantastic weather.
Our host Rita was very friendly and welcoming and gave us a much appreciated welcome basket, including those essentials such as toilet roll and shower gel as well as a pizza and salad, a bottle of bubbly and red wine and treats for the dogs. The information provided by Rita was also extremely helpful, informing us about where we could shop, when the local markets took place and the nearest vet.
The holiday was a great getaway from our usual busy lives.
We will definitely return.

Thanks for those kind comments, Katrina. Yes...it is indeed a lovely little hideaway , only 3 mins drive from Monségur, in which to unwind from all the stress of daily life. I've seen a storm tbere myself- pretty spectacular whilst feeling very safe with all that thick wall around you! Great dog walking countryside, too....you're all welcome back any time.

Truly amazing!
We were so excited to spend our holidays at the tower after finding this unique property. We fell in love with it as soon as we arrived! It was our piece of heaven. Rita, who was delightful, was there to greet us and provided all the information we needed. There was a welcome basket containing such items as wine, chocolate, pretzels, tea, coffee, sugar, cleaning materials, bbq briquettes, matches etc, together with chilled Prosecco, pizza and salad for our first evening meal. Not forgetting beef treats for Wilsom, our 8 month old puppy. The property is truly enchanting, we couldn't wait to have a look around and the views were amazing. Our previous holidays have always been a package holiday to far away destinations, I have to say this holiday was one of our best we have experienced. It was so relaxing and we spent the days and evenings going at our own pace and enjoying bbq's in the garden each day and sitting chilling by the fire pit in the evenings and relaxing in the jaccuzi. We enjoyed the pool many times, even when the water temperature was a little chilly! Wilson loved the freedom of being able to explore the secure garden and looked forward to the local vineyard owner/ worker driving by on his tractor. He would slow down, give us a wave and let Wilson race long side him in the garden as he drove past. It is such an idyllic location yet not remote enough not to enjoy the local towns of Monseguer and Le reole. We enjoyed a few walks to Monseguer though the tracks amongst the vineyards where we enjoyed local markets, cafe's and a patteserie which sold the most delicious cakes, bread and chocolate. The tower is stunning and more beautiful when you arrive, we enjoyed putting down the working trap doors in the bedroom each evening, it was magical. Thank you so much Rita for your hospitality, we will defiantly look to stay with you again.

Thank you so much for taking time to write this comprehensive review! I, on my part, was delighted to meet the 3 of you and look forward to seeing you all again next year, as discussed....! My dog walking/ sitting service will be in place for you then, as well, no matter which property of mine you choose to come to.

Stunning location, very quiet property
We have just spent a wonderful relaxing week at La Tour. The property is in the middle of the vineyards, with no neighbours, so if you are looking to get away from it all, this is the place to be. The pool was very refreshing, but it did take some time to clean each morning, as you are in the middle of the countryside! Generally we had a lovely stay, and if you are a couple looking for a romantic break this certainly fits the bill! The property itself is very small, so don't take too many things as there isn't really anywhere for storage. The gas camping stove is also very cramped, so we used the lovely BBQ area most evenings. It was also very hot when we were there, so we did have a little difficulty sleeping.
We stayed with our daughter, who has just turned 2 years old. We were warned that the property is not very child friendly, but we were just extra careful and cautious. However I would not recommend the property for children aged 2-7. Our daughter slept in the Sail Room, but in a travel cot, and as she doesn't climb out we didn't worry about the stairs very much. However, we would not have been comfortable if she had been in a bed up there. The stairs are not for the faint hearted, and were very small when carrying her, but you do get used to them!
Thank you to Rita for being a very friendly host!

Thank you for that!
My booking agent & myself will always point out its unsuitability if we think it will be, as we did with you.
However, it's great for couples & even small families with children of 6yrs upwards seem to cope really well and enjoy themselves there (although again , I didn't recommend it for a family of 5 who came for a fortnight this year, but they, too, seemed to enjoy themselves).
I'm not surprised you found the storage small...I've never seen such a full car arrive after your wedding! And I actually cook all year round on 2 gas rings for a family of 5 . My hob has 5 rings but I don't seem to need any more most of the time. There again, La Tour is advertised as this so guests are well aware of the facilities before they arrive.
It was lovely meeting you all - little Rea was gorgeous - and I'm so glad you managed & had a nice holiday there.

Ultimate Chill out!
We are a family of four with two teenage daughters. Our week at the Tour was absolutely idillic. We all came away feeling totally chilled out which was exactly what we where after. It was the most beautiful location with the most fantastic views over the vineyards, rustic and quirky and totally unique, which is what we adored about it. Having a swimming pool and hot tub to ourselves was the icing on the cake. Shops and restaurants within a short distance was ideal for us. Our week there just flew by and we where very sad to leave. The host Rita and her son, could not do enough for us. Rita even posting stuff to us that we had left behind. We would highly recommend that if you want to experience something unique, individual, small but perfectly formed, this is the place for you. We certainly plan to return very soon.

Fabulous location, amazing property
We have visited this property twice now because we like it so much!
The building feels completely unique, with a room on every floor - the living room is right at the top with windows all around giving fantastic views of the countryside.
The owner was there to welcome us when we arrived and was very friendly and helpful.
The outside facilities are perfect - a big garden with a good-sized pool, hot-tub, seating area and all important hammocks for lolling in.
Virtually no traffic goes past, so it's perfect if you're looking to get away from it all. We've seen bats, lizards, toads and deer, and in the evening the cicadas start up - with no streetlights nearby its great for star-gazing too.
The towns of Monsegur and La Reole are only 20 minutes or so drive away, so it's easy to stock up on supplies. Monsegur is an interesting town to wander around, with a market and bars and restaurants.
We took our dog with us, and there is a vet in La Reole who is able to give the necessary stamps on the pet passport before you return home.
Absolutely recommend!

Many thanks for your kind words.
Yes...it is indeed an idyllic venue! Many guests tell us that it's even better in the flesh than in the photos and indeed we have one couple who are on their 6th consecutive visit now. They tell me they have to recharge their batteries in the peace and quiet there. It's also nice to be on your own, but relatively close to Monségur - which, as you say , is an interesting little town. I'm looking forward to meeting you both for the 3rd time - not forgetting Bilbo, of course- this September again!
About the host
Hosted by Rita Thomas
I am retired & have lived in France for 30 years, 25 of which I have rented out my properties.
Why they chose this property
A simply beautiful little building in a simply beautiful location. A real'wow!' factor inside & out ...memorably unique. A view to die for from the settee in the new extension as well as the panoramic views from the sail room. Extremely relaxing & de-stressing.. Hard to find a better location than this.....and even better in the flesh.
What makes this property unique
Quirky building; wonderful architect desined extension in keeping with the original windmill & designer set pool. Quirky inside, too, marrying modern with historic. Panoramic views; very quiet, local beauty spot location yet only 3 mins drive to the nearest tiny bastide town for all amenities. It stands completely alone amidst the vines...not at the bottom of the owner's garden or next to it. Just a marvellous little property on all counts.
