Coquina – Unwind and enjoy this quiet ocean view “Oasis” close to the beach

Coquina boasts hardwoods, granite, fireplace stainless appliances, and 5 balconies. Four of the bedrooms have their own private bathroom. There is Jack and Jill bath that is shared by two of the bedrooms. Two balconies can be accessed from the main living area and three of the bedrooms have their own private balcony.

This is one of the end units in the triplex so the extra windows make for lots of natural light and great ocean views.

The property address is on S. Fort Fisher, but it is uniquely situated facing E street. This provides for a quiet oasis. The beach access is directly across the street.

Reviewer Comments: This was a terrific place in an ideal location...right across from a beach access point. Lots of space. I think we'll definitely book for next year. Only a few issues we could think of: the linens weren't there and the beds were not made up when we got there but they arrived soon after we did. We did see a few roaches. And the upstairs half bath didn't lock/stay closed very well. And I think this was our fault, but the decks, while there were several, were very tiny.

The fridge was dirty. Smeared butter inside door, spills & crumbs on shelves and vegetable drawers. Fabric chairs stained, one slat by lever handle of blinds broken at deck door. Also killed 4 cockroaches in mid-level bedrooms.

Excellent Location, maintenance desperately needed

Summary - we would not book this home again due to maintenance issues, which is a shame because the house itself and location were great!To start with the good...the location is excellent! Just a quick walk across the crosswalk to get to the beach. Plenty of parking available! House holds quite a few people and bathrooms were plentiful. The not so good....some general upkeep definitely needed. Overall, the house was not clean when we arrived, so that was a disappointment. No outside wash area - spigot there but no hose etc. Broken or non functioning blinds throughout house. In one bathroom blind was stuck in the raised position and we had to use a towel to block the window to make it usable (faced directly into neighboring property). Upstairs balcony door zip tied closed (assuming broken lock- disappointing and also doesn't seem like the best security measure). Mattresses are pretty basic (beware if you have any back issues). Also, there is a piece of ceiling trim missing on master bedroom balcony and there are pigeons roosted in the attic above that room, lots of pattering feet in ceiling above bed and pigeons calls, especially around day break. Balcony unusable due to droppings. Dishwasher doesnt clean dishes - soap dispenser broken inside, so soap all gone with pre-rinse cycle and dishes left crusty and unclean. Had to make 3 calls to property manager to get a working coffee maker and only 1 of 5 stove knobs were working.

Dirty and hot

I’ve never written a bad review until today. The house was dirty, sand everywhere, when you walked on the floor barefoot your feet were black. 2 toilet seats were not properly on, they moved when you sat down. One stove burner and the stove fan did not work. There looked to be bird poop in the window in the living room, blinds were broken all over the house. The beds were dirty, one bed had hair all over the inside of the bed, obliviously they were not cleaned or changed before our arrival. When it rained hard water came in the window in one of the bedrooms. The old towels from the previous stay was left in the bottom room in a big black bag. The air did not work properly, the 2 bottom levels were at 76 most of the time. The grill was completely rusted out and maggots were crawling in the carport. The dryer had to be turned on 3 times just to dry a load of clothes. The pots and pans are crap, food sticks to them and it was difficult to cook a good meal with what was in the kitchen. It was a complete let down. Kitchen had the bare minimum. Sand was in all the showers after we arrived, all over the floors, under the chairs, on the stairs. The post stated their were several decks to the place. The deck in the kitchen was zip tied and you could not go outside. The other deck in the kitchen is extremely small, no room for chairs and there were 8 wasps nests above the door. 2 TVs in bedroom did not work. We were very disappointed with the amount of money we paid.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Booking our vacation rental was quick and easy. We loved the house and location, and this is the second time we've stayed there. We really feel the house and location are worth the summer price. However, once we arrived we noticed the cleaning crew did not do a thorough job. The floors were covered in sand, dirt, and literal trash (apple cores, dirty napkins, candy wrappers, gum). The fridge was not wiped out (remnants of old food), and the freezer drawer was frozen shut. All of the bedroom closets had additional linens thrown on the floors, making the closets difficult to use. On our second day we began experiencing issues with the AC (not our complaint, things happen!), but I had a terrible time trying to get ahold of the company for scheduling. The woman who kept answering the phone kept transferring me to the wrong office without warning, I believe I called maybe a total of 7 times and never had my questions resolved. Finally the AC repairman showed up after waiting several hours, not knowing when to expect them. Several members of our group also had a difficult time with the worn out mattresses.

Reviewer Comments: After renting the same property in N Topsail for 4 years, my family decided to try something in the Kure beach area that was big enough to house our large group and offer more variety of amusements. This house was able to accommodate our annual family reunion and was ideally situated near the best of what the beach has to offer plus aquarium, parks, museums, and ferry were all less than 10 minutes away. The beach access is right across the street. I only have a few minor criticisms: The AC. It was not working when we checked in and was not repaired until very late that night. Worked great afterwards but I feel AC is something that should be top priority at beach properties and verified after house-cleaning. We checked in at 5 and it was 85 F upstairs. The closets were a mess. Not that we used them much but they were full of unopened or half-opened packages of sheets and comforters most (if not all) unwashed. The kitchen could have used a few more tools. No one expects Wusthof knives but sharp without rust is essential. Cleanliness - I do have high standards but I HAD to wipe all the surfaces down and tell all my family to leave their shoes on which is not normal for us but we realize not everyone lives as we do. Loved the location and layout of the house so we are considering coming back next year!

Reviewer Comments: The picture shown is not the house that we were given when we got there. The house is beautiful but I believe the pictures are misleading. That picture was taken from the balcony of the house. It’s close to the beach, 1 street away, so if you’re looking for beachfront this is not what you want. We paid $1900 for a 2 day stay and I feel that was ridiculous since it’s not the house advertised. Anyway, when we arrived the two garbage cans provided to use were filled with garbage. The oven was filthy and the floors did not appear to have been mopped in quite sometime. Also, there was a large brown stain on one of the beds. We pretty much done the cleaning as we were instructed to strip our beds and then make them back with the comforter we used which made me wonder how often the comforters are washed since that’s exactly how we found the beds in the rental when we arrived. Then someone emailed from the rental company to ask why we were not satisfied and I told her. She has Never back 😣. The good points are the house is gorgeous but needs updated beds and living room furniture.

Great location

This was a great house for our family - 6 adults and 6 kids. The stairs were pretty steep but we managed. Very easy walk to the beach. The kitchen needs a little work - it is showing a lot of wear and tear, but we definitely would stay there again.

The blinds need to be replaced or fixed in the living area. The house is beautiful and a good location. Just a few minor things that should be addressed.

The hose outside to spray yourself off needs replaced as it leaks all over so it didn’t work the best, but that is an easy fix. The furniture definitely looks well loved but was comfortable. Make sure to bring your own pillows (the ones provided were very flat). We had some issues with the AC freezing on the second floor, so we had to turn it off and let it thaw intermittently.

A few dinks here and there like broken door handles, provided plug in fans not working, and tv remotes missing batteries, but overall a great place. The beach access is extremely close and convenient. Great location at a great price. We had a few families there and the big table was perfect for games! Each room having its own bathroom was fantastic! The rooms were very nice and there is a lot of room. The stairs are a little intimidating when first arriving, but it’s only because they are in line with each other so they look worse than they are! We had an amazing time for the week we stayed. A few tips for the owners I would say would be to possibly try to figure out a better system for the garbage in the garage. When we got there all 3 bins were completely full and we were stuck with that until trash day. I would definitely recommend this place to a larger group who needs multiple bedrooms/bathrooms and wants to save money by not being right on the ocean! The walk to the beach is super easy, you can see the ocean from the balcony!

Not happy

We stayed at the space for four days three nights. The furniture and rugs need a good cleaning. The bottom bunk was broken and no one was able to come and repair it while we were there. They actually showed up as we were leaving. The stove eye stayed on (huge safety hazard) because of a faulty knob. While they came to fix that the next day it limited the use of the eye while we were there to avoid anyone being burned. There was stained and not thoroughly cleaned appliances (stove and microwave). Our family loved the close proximity to the beach and the spacious rooms but those risk concerns were our biggest concerns. The management repair team said we would be compensated but we never were.

The kitchen faucet was unsecure. The living room exterior door wouldn't lock. The dishwasher was gross and wouldn't clean the dishes. The owner or manager should stay there for a night or two and make a list of things he/she would care about. We got an extra blanket out of the closet and it was covered in blood!!! We left a day early because of the various conditions. The location was great.

Suprising Paradise

My family and I had a wonderful time at Cochina in Kure Beach. We had never heard of Kure Beach until we booked our stay a few weeks before, and were blown away by what a gem it is. The property we stayed at, Cochina, was also wonderful and the management team was friendly, professional and responsive. I can’t say enough good things. Great Group Vacation

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The location was nigh perfect, with beach access an easy stroll from the driveway. The beach itself was lightly populated throughout the week. An outside shower is listed, but we only found a well-used garden hose at the front of the driveway; it served fine for washing off sandy feet. I do recommend adding a mat of some kind at the base of the stairwell - we used one we brought, and it kept much of the sand from tracking throughout the house all week. The house was clean and plenty of linens and towels were provided. We found the great room couches quite comfortable. The bedrooms were comfortable as well except for one, the pyramid bed room, detailed below. The bathrooms were all good, the showers had plenty of water pressure and heat throughout the week. The balconies are small, but we found them to be fine for late night conversations and morning sunrises. Appliances were in good condition, except the dishwasher, also detailed below. A/C was frosty, and kept us comfortable throughout our stay, important when the heat index is regularly above 100oF. Improvements: * The pyramid bed both sank in the mattress center and was noisy at the slightest movement, making sleep difficult. * The toilet pedestals in several bathrooms moved (!) and need to be properly fixed to the floor. * The dishwasher was covered in grime and mold throughout it's interior. We tried to clean it with a 4+ hour cycle using white vinegar, but it did not save it. We opted to hand wash and dry all dishes during the week - a significant inconvenience with a dozen people doing meals and drinks. All else was minor - some blinds in the kitchen/living room area were heavily damaged before we arrived, which we reported, but they didn't impact privacy. A curtain rod came down in a bedroom after someone set something against the curtain - we noted it looked as though it had been repaired multiple times in the past. These barely impacted out enjoyment, though - overall, it was a 5-s

The location was even closer to the beach than we anticipated. We had 1 night with the center triplex rented, but we couldn't hear them. Loved the colors of the rooms. House was clean. I believe the "sand in the beds" issues is because there are no rugs except one on the 3rd floor. You track sand throughout the house, including the bedrooms, because of this. We put down towels to help. Nice, large kitchen area. Nice to find dish soap, plastic wrap, and starter soap and T.P. What I didn't like about the house is the stairs are steep and narrow. The couches are quite uncomfortable because the backs are short, plus they are deep and too cushy. I had to hand wash 75% of the dishes and glasses because the dishwasher is terrible. Had the repairman out and guess he fixed the heat issue after we left, but that's only part of the problem. The balconies are useless so don't plan to use them. There are 3 pans for the oven. One had to be thrown out because it was peeling. The other 2 are small cookie sheets. 2 of 5 lights were out over the kitchen table and never replaced though I called twice about it and mentioned to maintenance when they came to fix something. The fan in the master bedroom runs on high only. There are several broken slats in the blinds. Lastly, the balcony doors are extremely difficult to lock. None of these are deal breakers, but they are items that should be addressed. I've learned to bring 2 good pans, 2 good knives, a dishcloth and pot scrubber when I rent.

Beautiful house with several flaws

The house is beautiful and the third floor is perfect for large groups to spend time together. We had 12 people in our party and the house was more than enough space for us. The listing doesn’t mention much about parking but we were able to easily fit 6 cars in the carport and driveway. Upon arrival, the house wasn’t quite as clean as I’d hoped. There was sand in several places. The ceiling was leaking in the third floor half bath, which was concerning. There were several places throughout the house that looked like water damage or mold from leaks. My biggest complaint is the AC. When we arrived, the AC was at 75. We tried bumping the AC down to 72 and the house never cooled down after 6 hours of being there. I called the rental agency the first night to report the AC. The representative I spoke with said she would “pass it along,” I never heard back. If you are hot natured, I don’t recommend this place. I was extremely disappointed that we paid this much and received absolutely no help from the rental company when we reported an issue. We did see a few roaches, but only on the first floor. The house is nice and the location is perfect, but it needs several repairs before it is worthy of anything more than 3 stars.

Family Beach Trip

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Liked being able to go right to the property & having keyless entry. Property could have been a little cleaner. Living room furniture needs to be replaced, king bedroom on 2nd floor needs a new mattress, sheets on the 2nd floor king bed were on backwards & had sand all over them so had to strip the bed & wash them. Some of the blinds in the living room are torn & haven't been replaced. No water pressure in the king bedroom in the 3rd floor bathroom. You would think if linens were provided they would have been clean. No cable in the bunkroom. Water was coming up thru the floor in the bedroom in the bottom floor bedroom & smelled of mold which needs to be looked into. A/C quit working on Thursday that required someone come out. A/C needs to be serviced more often.
