About this property
Historic Royal Kent cottage surrounded by large gardens & private swimming pool
Plantagenet Cottage is unique, charming and hidden away on the outskirts of a picturesque Kentish village. We're located within the beautiful Kent Downs area of outstanding natural beauty and the views from our garden overlook the Eastwell Manor Country Estate.
The cottage is steeped in History dating back to the 16th century when originally built as a one-room dwelling by Richard Plantagenet, a natural son of King Richard III [the one they found under the car park in Leicester], so our Richard was, in theory, the last in the bloodline of the Plantagenet Kings of England. It's a fascinating story and you will find books and other information about this at the cottage.
We are ideally suited to 6 people [possible 7th on pull out mattress] across 3 luxurious bedrooms - the entire detached property has been recently refurbished to a high standard providing all modern amenities and comfort whilst maintaining the cottage's rustic charm and historical character.
The large living area has 2 comfortable sofas, a 40" plasma smart TV with Netflix, Amazon / iPlayer etc. It also has a large inglenook fireplace with a new Wood Burning Stove - it's lovely having cozy log fires in colder months.
The dining area has a table seated for 6/7 people below a vaulted ceiling with a gothic arch looking out to the garden.
There is also an office space with network ports and printer and USB charging from most rooms.
The fully equipped kitchen has new appliances and hopefully everything you might need !
Our bathroom has a bath, rain shower, toilet and sink - and it has a cubby hole inside a recently exposed old fireplace.
The garden wraps around the property and has a park like feel with lots of well established trees & shrubs. Lots of space for kids to play .. we even have 'Teletubby' mounds! There is a BBQ, a swing and outside seating areas and new this year is a large in-ground trampoline, which is proving to be great fun for small and big kids too !
A definite highlight in warmer months is the outdoor heated swimming pool which is in a walled area in a sunny corner of the garden. POOL OPEN BETWEEN APRIL TO END OF SEPTEMBER - exact date is weather dependant. Hot-Tub available to hire on request.
Our cottage is in a delightful spot that we think has a lovely relaxed feeling and good atmosphere.

About the host
Hosted by TIM & MAITE

We live in the suburbs of London with our two daughters. We like cooking and eating delicious food, sunshine, music, gardening, and being outdoors. It's great doing those things at our cottage when guests are not enjoying doing it there themselves !
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with the plot - its secluded, tucked away from the main road and you wouldn't even know its there, plus the amazing history of the cottage having been originally built by our royal heir to the throne Richard Plantagenet. Ashford is a thriving practical town which is handy to have nearby when venturing out of the peaceful / countryside vibe of our immediate area.
What makes this property unique
The hidden away location, the history, the private pool and the views over to Eastwell Manor are all unique benefits.
