About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical-drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season, and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native Americans in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South Fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch, which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods in Yosemite has over 110 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance of everything that Wawona has to offer, and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Nice little cabin

Enjoyed the cabin lay out and location. It is pretty dirty, but I guess if you are hiking and outside all the time, its a lot better than a tent.

Don't stay here!

The cabin is completely dated and not at all comfortable. I would not sit on the dirty sofa, the beds are rock hard and lumpy, and the kitchen has no dishwasher. The cabin is also very hot in the summer; there are no breezes even with windows open. There was one trash bag, no coffee filters, and the reception office was rude. Stay away.

Solitude

We stayed in Cabin 9S, just two people in a 3 bedroom... so way too big for us. We loved the solitude here, so quiet at night, and so easy to get to all the hikes we wanted to do in our 5 days in Yosemite. The only surprise was the rusty chunky water that took a few minutes to clear the first night, and about 1 minute on subsequent nights. Also we wanted to do laundry after a long day only to find laundry closes super early. Still with those drawbacks, we loved the area, the staff, and the very dated cabin really grew on us, it felt like home. We would definitely recommend this place, and hope it gets a few plumbing and character updates soon.

Everything was great until the power went out

The property is wonderful and everything was great until the power went out. We were on out last day of stay, in the middle of cooking breakfast and the power went out. We looked outside and saw a bunch of trucks doing work. I asked one of the workers if that was planned work or repairs and they said it was planned. Nothing was posted and we got no warning, so that derailed our entire day as we couldn't finish cooking our food or making our coffee, I was going to attend a work meeting before heading out for the day but had no WIFI. I sent an email to the Redwoods office asking for a refund for part of that day but did not hear from anybody. It is unfortunate because we were all happy with our stay, and if they had just posted notice of the power outage we could have gotten up earlier and done all we needed. Also the water went out when the power went out so we couldn't use the sinks or toilets. They had buckets with water next to the toilet at least, which means perhaps this happens frequently. Not sure. But advanced notice could have saved us from an unfortunate situation.

Find another place !

First, the vrbo app showed 3 bedrooms but there were only 2 in the cabin. Second, there were no arrival instructions communicated, I called the owner 5 times and left messages, nothing ! We arrived and drove around in the wilderness in the dark for 2 hours, knocked on stranger doors to figure out what to do. The cabin is a dump, the carpets are soaking in dirt and who knows what else. The pillow covers, blankets all are dusty and stink, and the couch is the same. No shampoo or conditioner, no sugar, or any condiments in the kitchen. This is the worst vrbo experience ever ! I tried calling vrbo, no response. Talked to the property team and they said a manager will call, no response. For the high nightly rate, the experience was painful and unacceptable.

Wonderful time!!

We recently spent 4 days in Yosemite in the 9S Cabin....we LOVED it! The location was amazing. The hikes close by were enjoyable and beautiful. The valley is easily accessible and close by. The cabin itself was very comfortable. Everything we needed was readily available to us. The area was very quiet and peaceful. The fireplace was amazing. The local markets were convenient and very friendly. We will absolutely be back and wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else. Amazing!!

Pine cabin

The cabin was basically fine. The cleanliness of was disappointing. The table was filthy and the carpets not vacuumed, food on the floor. For the price of the stay it was too much.
