Cabin Nestled in the Woods, close to town!
This charming mountain cabin is tucked away in the woods, but still just minutes from town, up the hill from Safeway. Bring the whole family or friends to this mountain retreat to enjoy all the outdoor activities the Rocky Mountains have to offer. Whether you'd like to head to the mountain to ski or bike or relax on the oversized deck amongst the pines, this is the place to be!
We added 2 new bedrooms, 2 full baths, a bunk room/game room and hot tub on a new patio in 2024. This cozy home is located on 1 acre in Fraser in what is known as the Winter Park Ranch area. The neighborhood is quiet and convenient. You will be in close proximity to everything you would like to explore in the Fraser Valley.
A large deck surrounds the first floor of the home. Also on this ground level you will find the 2 car garage (room to park 1 vehicle), kitchen, living and dining areas (table seats 8), washer and dryer, a 2 bedrooms which contains 2 Queen beds + 1 trundle and 2 full bathrooms. We have a pack n play available and booster seat. Enjoy the large leather sectional while watching tv, playing board games and/or relaxing near the gas fireplace. Use the gas grill to prepare your favorite grilled meals. There are also plenty of games to play! We added an air hockey table and Pop-a-shot in the walkout basement/bunkroom.
The master bedroom with king bed is upstairs. This room has its own remodeled (in 2018) full bathroom. Also on the second level is the loft area with large windows where you will find a twin bed with trundle, a half bathroom, books, a large swivel chair & a half, and small art table.
400mbps xfinity WiFi is also available for your convenience. We have YouTubeTV (along with all the other streaming apps, Netflix, AppleTV, etc.) to watch live TV on a 65" HDTV.

This place was awesome. It’s in a great location. The drive to Winter Park is just a few minutes and I also really liked being so close to town. The house is everything we needed to have some family time and relax. The hosts are the most personable people I’ve worked with through VRBO.
The house was great. Cozy, warm, and had every thing we needed. We loved the location. It was close to every thing but still private and secluded. Communication with the owners was very good and they responded immediately to any questions we had. We would definitely stay here again!
Fabulous, super clean house. We thoroughly enjoyed and would definitely stay here again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the property was spectacular. The house was spotless. It was very clean, especially by my wife's standards who is very picky about dust. The kitchen was very well equipped which we used every day. The mattresses were spectacular. The TV app selection was great for late night movies and the board games were great as well.

Great long weekend getaway!
We came up to Fraser for a long weekend getaway with another family. 4 adults and 2 3-year old girls. We had a wonderful time. House was perfect for our size group. Awesome walks in the evening, looking for moose and other wildlife. Great mountain biking trails just down the road. Secluded, yet close to what you need. We will be back!
The home was exactly as described. It felt secluded, but still close to town. It was just what our family of 9 ordered. The house was generously stocked, and we had a wonderful time playing games and venturing to Rocky Mountain National Park. The only con is that the trails described in the post are no longer open as they are now private property. Otherwise, we still highly recommend this home and hope to visit again in the winter!

Thanks for the review, David! Just FYI, the trail near the house has always been private property—it’s about 1 mile and allows access to the public trail system; however, the property owner closed it off due to COVID-19 and the stay-at-home restrictions that were in place earlier in the year, and they have not reopened it unfortunately. Hoping it will not stay closed forever as it was a quick way to access the Idlewild trail system.
The cabin was comfortable and clean however; on several occasions we had to deal with a polite construction crew. They asked a lot of questions and apologized for disturbing us. We had to explain we were guests and listen to construction noise early in the morning every day of our vacation.
We loved our stay at the Schmidt Cabin. It felt like home. We cooked every dinner in and were very pleased with all the kitchen items we needed to do so. The place is very spacious and since it was July we spent a lot of time out on the deck enjoying the wildflowers, birds and occasional moose that stopped by. The neighborhood is lovely with lots of open space yet so close to all that you might need in Fraser. Took a trip up to RMNP and hiked Adams Falls and another trail to a lake. Also took the gondola up at Winter Park and hiked up there. We would love to stay here again if life permits!
We loved the layout of the cabin and had plenty of space to spread out but not be separated. Kitchen was well stocked, the cabin is well stocked and technology options are up to date. We love the large Bluetooth speaker to pipe music throughout our stay. I worked remotely from here for a few days, and connectivity is solid. The cabin is close to beautiful hiking and far enough from town that we felt like we were out of town. Highly recommend.
Owners are very responsive and accommodating, The house is beautiful and the location is amazing! The rooms get so dark which is amazing! The neighbor is not friendly at all which was very stressful. Screamed at my husband and kids. For the price this house should have been much much cleaner. The kitchen had crumbs in a lot of the drawers and cabinets. The sheets fell of the beds every night too, maybe a new fitted mattress pad would do the trick.
We had a wonderful time at the property. It was an easy drive from metro Denver but felt like a total escape. The house was fantastic, the owners were so easy to work with and we will definitely be back!
I cannot say enough about how amazing our stay was. The owners are the best! They are very responsive to any request we had. The cabin was perfect for our family. It's very clean and well maintained and in a area that is close enough to town and yet secluded enough to go on great walks and feel away from the crowd. I highly recommend it. We will stay there again in the future as our 'go to' cabin in the WP area.
We absolutely loved our stay at Stacy and Allie’s cabin. We celebrated Christmas here and cooked up several feasts in their spacious kitchen. It’s in a quiet, peaceful neighborhood, close to everything. No concerns or complaints. I highly recommend.
We loved every minute of our stay at this beautiful home. The owners have thought of every detail. The location was secluded but close to everything. We had adults and teens with us, but literally anyone, of any age would be at home at this completely furnished home. Thank you for sharing your beautiful property with us! We would be thrilled to return!
Spacious home, comfortable rooms and deck, well furnished kitchen. Our family really enjoyed this home! Convenient to many outdoor experiences.

About the host

Having a home in the mountains is truly a dream come true for us. We live in Denver most of the time, but play in the mountains every chance we get! We enjoy showing off the beautiful Colorado scenery to visitors, and being able to share the mountain cabin with others who want to enjoy it is something we love doing! After all, life is better in the mountains! :)
Why they chose this property
We bought this property for a number of reasons-- proximity to Denver, size (not too big, not too small), access to outdoor adventure (skiing, hiking, and biking are super close; and Lake Granby is only a half hour away, too), and we mostly love how it is nestled in the trees so you really feel like you are away.
It's amazing what a few days in this quiet mountain cabin can do for ya!
What makes this property unique
Driving up and walking into this home just feels right. Whether it's the big deck at the entrance, wood finishes inside, or the huge windows that let in tons of natural light, you'll feel good about choosing this place. It's cozy and roomy at the same time, and the location is ideal.
