Welcome to this patch of serenity on the river's edge, to this hideaway.
Welcome to this patch of serenity on the river's edge, to this hideaway.
Take a seat. Decompress a moment. Take note of the expanse at your purview. This is your temporary home. This is your reprieve from the pin numbers, passwords, online postings, news alerts and the 24/7 world that so consumes us.
Here you will find a home that touts all the modern conveniences while ensconced in another time, a slower time, a time of reflection if you are so inclined.
The space
Here you will find three bedrooms that sleep six, two full bathrooms, a kitchen, a flat-screen television, wi-fi and the gorgeous views of the Potomac River, which divides West Virginia from Maryland on the opposite shore.
Here you will find a home that touts all the modern conveniences while ensconced in another time, a slower time, a time of reflection if you are so inclined.
There is a grill, if grilling is your forte. There is a deck that requires nothing more than your presence.
This stretch of the river lures all kind of water enthusiasts: kayakers, canoers, bird-watchers, photographers, Civil War aficionados and anglers seeking to land a good-sized walleye.
Many of your water-related needs can be met at Shepherdstown Pedal & Paddle on German Street, the principal thoroughfare in town.
There are plenty of hiking trails around Knott Road. Nothing puts you at one with Mother Nature more than the quiet and solitude of the untouched forests that envelop the area. Many are as they were in the early 1860s, when the Yankees lined the far shore and the Rebels the one that beckoned you.
Otherwise, please enjoy your time in this idyllic setting.
Guest access
The entire house, front and back patios, front yard, and water access to the Potomac River.
Other things to note
That rooster you sometimes hear crowing is in charge of the neighborhood watch group, although his calls are mostly directed to the flock of hens that responds to his reports of finding a trove of yummy bugs or the occasional predator. And, my, how the flock loves bits of bread.
We have a security camera mounted on the front of our deck. The coverage area includes our driveway, lower steps, and front yard. It is not our aim to invade your privacy.

The house is amazing . Amy is sweet and terrific. I will be back! I love the Harper’s Ferry area. Great hiking, great cycling. Nice people. Eclectic and relaxed. Great food. Go to Snallygasters!
Great quiet location on the Potomac River that supported our need to unplug from the world. Rental was clean and offered all of the conveniences of home. Owners just a txt away.
The home was the perfect setting for the 4 adults and 3 children. The neighborhood was peaceful and the kids enjoyed walking along the river and playing. The games and family friendly videos were enjoyed. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. The night of the football game our grandson joined us for a family dinner.
We really enjoyed staying here. Kitchen was well stocked. Beautiful porch with a gorgeous view. Living area is nice and open. The inly feedback I would have is that the master bed does not have much support, so my back was a little sore in the mornings after sleeping on it. Overall would absolutely stay here again!
We loved our walks in the afternoon and saw bald eagles. We wish there was a bit bigger place to fish from, but still enjoyed our stay. The house is beautiful and very comfortable. So many stairs may be a challenge for elderly guests or people with mobility limitations, but we appreciated the exercise going in and out. We had a wonderful weekend, many thanks!
Lovely location on the Potomac River outside of Harper's Ferry. Wonderful location to relax, reconnect and have a fantastic time. Amy, the host is wonderful and there when you need her. She made sure our visit was perfect and it was. Took in the local history, food and breweries. What a great weekend.
Family visit with battlefields and Harper's Ferry.
What a spot on the Potomac! Perfect base for exploration! We visited family in Charles Town. Went to Harper's Ferry a couple times, Antietam, Sharpsburg and Shepherdstown. American history at every turn. My boys catfished during the night. We loved it and the summer heat could only make it better..
Very clean and decorated nice . Cozy feel inside . Soooo cute !!!!!!For older folks , the amount of steps may be difficult ?Only had trouble the one night with no cell service / Wi-Fi internet connection for TV I believe that was okay , because we played games , talked and connected without checking phones or watching tv . It was great !
Great property! We stayed here for a long weekend getaway with family. It’s perfectly located between Harper’s Ferry and Shepardstown The house had plenty of room to gather in the living room and eat around the dining table. Also good sized bedrooms. Kitchen was well stocked which made it easy to make meals. The view of the river is outstanding! Great place for a peaceful cup of coffee in the morning We really enjoyed our stay. The host was very communicative and gave us helpful tips.
Perfect place to stay and visit Antitem and Harpers Ferry Sites. Location was convenient and the house was beautiful. Spacious and a great view. We enjoyed the deck. Bedrooms and bathrooms were a good size. The house had everything we needed. Loved that the owners thought of everything from board games, coffee, extra towels, pillows, blankets, a fan etc… the house was clean, booking was easy owner was very responsive. Perfect spot
We enjoyed a nice family getaway at this beautiful retreat! We were a family of 6 and the house met all our needs.
My only comment would be the outside front stairs were steep for the grandparents in their late 70’s. There are images shown, it was just us not fully thinking it through.
Beautiful A-frame with a fantastic view, all amenities youd need from home. Steps are a little dangerous to the river and area not really set up for fishing. Home is a little distance to Harpers Ferry with winding roads and lots of deers so would suggest arriving before dark. Overall very nice.
This is a yearly trip that I take with another couple/close friends of mine. We usually opt for rentals high in the mountains, but this year we opted for a waterfront getaway and we were so very pleased with this rental. Beautiful views of the Potomac River all from the the front windows of the house. Even though this rental is on a private road with homes of local residents, it was extremely quiet at all times. The house was clean and stocked with everything we needed to make the stay comfortable and fun. Harper's Ferry is just 20'minutes away as well as outdoor activities like hiking and tubing to name a few. We highly recommend this beautiful West Virginia property!
This is our second time staying at this property with our two daughters. Knott Road is a significant but manageable distance from Shepherdstown to the North, a little longer to Harpers Ferry and Charles Town to the South and Southwest. The house is well equipped, and the view of the Potomac River can't be surpassed. The master bedroom has a comfortable king bed, with four additional beds for kids or guests upstairs. The kitchen and living area is integrated and well equipped. The hosts are responsive to unexpected problems, such as power outages (we had one; part of life). We'll be back.
Clean, comfortable, well stocked house with lots of space for 5 adults/teens. Beautiful river views. Convenient to day hikes at Harper's Ferry, Antietam, and Shepherdstown. Host provides recommendations of local eateries and things to do. Very responsive.
Property itself is very nice but there are a few neighbors that aren’t as nice but next door neighbors were nice and it’s a gorgeous view!

I am a transplant to this wonderful land called West Virginia. I have lived in Houston, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Washington, DC. West Virginia is the most beautiful of them far. I have been in the hospitality industry for the past eleven years, so hosted guests in our home is a real joy. I love to share the tranquility I have found in Shepherdstown, WV. Come and see us. You'll fall in love, too.
