Scar Bridge Cottage is adjacent many sandy beaches for family holidays. Sitting on 3 acres SCAR BRIDGE COTTAGE with Swingset , tyre swing . Also boasts its own small river with v small brown trout. The river is safely fenced off,gated access to steps lead to a wooden platform ideal for sitting or fishing. The stone stables are used to provide guests with a casual summer games room with chalk boards and games.Extensive lawned garden and orchard planted with apple, pear and plum trees.Easy chairs together with al fresco dining tables and chairs encourage full use of the grounds with benches also in sunny spots., with a firepit for extended evening enjoyment under the stars. Cosy throws and garden garden cushions provided. grassy lawn of c 1 acre for families to enjoy.Some Outdoor lighting in a casual family garden . It is a country garden with wildflowers and encouraging natural habitats as eco friendly as is practical to juggle guest needs and wildlife .
Refurbished and extended it is yet a 200yr old property . large open fire,kingsize 4 poster bed , 2 reception rooms one larger with smart tv /Netflix / dvd and one a small snug with 2 armchairs and fireplace . The charm of the house and the gardens ensure that this property is ideal no matter the season.Decor compliments the cottage setting. boules, picnic set...easy driving access Hook lighthouse, JFK arboretum and JFK Homestead , Dunbrody Famine ship ,Kilmore Quay thatched heritage village with restaurants , ice cream parlour , shops , hairdresser, cove beach and long strand


The charming rustic property comprises on the ground floor a cosy bespoke country kitchen with dual aspect over the country lane and rear garden. The kitchen seats 6 with dual aspect deep silled cottage windows. The back kitchen/larder is fitted with electric oven and grill , washing machine and large fridge freezer and microwave. Aga in main kitchen may be prebooked .There is also room for your beach/ fishing tackle in the back kitchen..separate downstairs WC and whb.
Large fridge freezer allows plenty of space for goodies. We try to leave a pizza if guests may arrive late and need an easy bite
Local supermarket can deliver pre ordered groceries. Contact host for details and local closing times
All the rooms are cottage size , cosy and relaxing
The kitchen leads through a small hallway onto the original small snug room with its cut stone fireplace with 2 soft comfy armchairs and music system. A selection of CD's of varied music , and books ( long reads , short stories , night sky instruction and fishing knots etc! ) are provided. The bright sunroom is a tasteful extension with cathedral ceiling , dual aspect windows allow views of the front and rear gardens.
Comfy 3 seater couch , armchair and rocking chair . The central iron chandelier and side candle lamps are fitted with dimmer switches to ensure a cosy atmosphere. Colour saorview smart Tv provides irish channels and radio , Netflix and DVD player with a wide variety of DVD's, including some children's favourites and box sets. Kids train set with extensive track and about 30 engines provides entertainment for children

Upstairs 3 cottage bedrooms ( 2,doubles , 1 twin ) , are simply and comfortably furnished with king size 4 poster bed , wrought iron bedsteads and guests enjoy cotton bedlinens and plentiful towels. Again rooms have lovely cottage deep window sills and discrete skylights (with blinds) . Master bedroom with 4 poster king size bed dual aspect windows and separate whb. The twin bedroom has cut stone feature on one wall and overlooks front garden and rural views. 2 single beds with wrought iron bedsteads fit beautifully with occupants facing each other ideal for night time holiday chats ! .The second double over looks the rear gardens. All cosy bedrooms made up with crisp linens and decorated in calm country style. bathroom with power shower over bath

bathroom has pretty domed ceiling in tongue and groove. Plentiful towels provided. Soaps and some toiletries provided. Mira power shower over bath. Again a character filled room with little window seat.

4 poster bed in the master has kingsize soft mattress with cushion top - extremely comfortable and when combined with the quietude and darkness of country nights, a great night's sleep is almost guaranteed ! the second double offers a firm comfortable mattress .Both double beds are fitted with electric blankets for extra cosiness and 2 hot water bottles provided for single beds or sitting outside by the firepit into the late evenings

convenient for Hook Head , Kilmore Quay heritage thatched village, Johnstown Castle , JFK Arboretum , Duncannon Fort , Hook Head Lighthouse, Wexford Opera Festival , Saltee Islands , JFK Homestead , Wexford town or as base for exploring the ancient South East
Activities incl : Surfing , kite surfing ,fishing , horse riding , pottery classes , National Heritage Centre , kayaking on the copper coast ....lounging in the garden in the sunny southeast summer sun , cosying up at the fire , around the firepit or bar b qing by the river , reading a book and getting a lie in or a game of hide and seek in the extensive grounds..

The property is walled and gated to front and we do request that you keep the gates closed as horses, sheep and cattle are occasional users of the road and should be kept out of the garden! We have fenced and gated the little river and please do supervise children around the river, on swings and little climbing frame etc. It is a large country garden so do keep an eye on all little ones who will love to roam and explore !
Checkout
We request on checkout that contents of all household bins are bagged and placed in the appropriate of the 3 wheelie bins provided. We cannot accept empty bottles.Excess food cannot be donated so please remove all your food from fridge/freezer /kitchen. Should you have excess food/waste you don't wish to take away there is handy pac a sac machine in Bridgetown Centra . We regret that since COVID the cleaning company will not remove excess guest waste. We appreciate if guests ensure that the lids on the bins are fully closed and weighed with a rock as the clever crows will quickly make a mess of accessible food waste!
Furniture should be returned to original settings - games returned to their boxes
Place used towels in the bath
Place breakfast crockery etc in the dishwasher .
We ask that the cottage is left in good and tidy order.
There is great Wi-Fi fibre 500 mb download speed.
The high point of this cottage in summer is the huge garden and in winter the cosy fire and aga come into their own 😊

kate and her husband purchased this property in 2006 after the birth of their second child. they enjoy using it as an escape from their busy lives where they can relax or spend time with friends and family.This property is less than 2 hours drive from their Dublin home and ticks all the boxes for charm , oodles of private outdoor gardens , great local restaurants , pubs and food providers , stunning beaches and of course the sunny southeast's preferential weather!
The cottage is 200 years old and is fitted with most modern comforts to combine the charm of a period property with style warmth comfort and interest whilst having those odd corners and cosy rooms that define a cottage.the cottage garden is v large country garden and ever growing , we have wild areas and mown areas , terraces and courtyard .. fast WiFi has recently been added and good internet cafe locally where private room can be booked if zoom meetings or the need arises .
We enjoy researching areas before we travel and to offer you the same opportunity we send you a file of own local recommendations and those discovered and enjoyed by guests so that you can get the most out of your stay - you may decide to visit some or all of the places , restaurants , pubs, beaches on the list or just while away the afternoons peacefully dipping your toes in our little river or playing rounders on the lawn whilst the BBQ prepares your supper !We love to hear reports of any other spots you discover.

What makes this property unique

A charming and characterful restored 200 yr old property , with 3 acres of privacy and a small river bisecting the grounds. Great location for touring SE Ireland. This region's proximity to busy Rosslare car ferry ensures plentiful activities and year round facilities for families. The area is renowned for the Arts and dotted with historic castles and stunning cliff edged beaches. Wexford is a prosperous county and has great year round facilities for children ,adventure playgrounds, horse riding and water sports. The beaches vary from long strands to cliff edged beauties ,historic Hook lighthouse - the oldest working lighthouse in Europe - is a fascinating visit with whale watching and cliff walks , Duncannon fort reinactment and beach sand sculpting fest , kite surfing to the gourmet fish delights of our own Kilmore Quay village. Excellent choice of farmers markets , local deli shops to fill a tasty picnic and explore for the day !
