About this property
WNC’s Breathtaking Blue Ridge & Great Smokies meet the SC Jocassee Gorges
Perched on the Eastern Intercontinental Divide, sitting on the State Line between North & South Carolina, you will discover the ultimate mountain escape: The Jocassee Overlook. To the northwest, you’ll absorb the Majesty of Appalachia: The Blue Ridge & Great Smokey Mountain Range. To the southeast, you’ll be wowed by the pristine uninterrupted views of The Jocassee Gorges of South Carolina’s Upstate. This spacious mountain home truly boasts the best of it all for those who seek a Mountain Vacation. If a Southern Appalachian experience is what you want, look no further. In less than an hour, you can venture out anywhere from Asheville to Highlands. Odds are though, that you’ll want to stay put: It’s all right here!
Transylvania County, North Carolina is the Land of 1000 Waterfalls. There are so many hiking trails and scenic opportunities available there’s not sufficient space to list them all. To highlight a few things: the Town of Brevard is 15 minutes away; the Asheville airport is about 50 minutes away; The Biltmore House and the 50 yard-line at Death Valley in Clemson are both an hour away. Heading northwest, you can hit Lake Toxaway, Sapphire, Cashiers, and Highlands within an hour. If you want to venture up to the Blue Ridge Parkway, it is also under an hour and is accessed by taking what’s been described as “the most beautiful winding road in Western North Carolina: Highway 215. Whether you’re a sportsman who likes to fly fish, an outdoorsman looking to mountain bike or hike, a beer-lover, longing to sample many unique breweries, or a shopper who enjoys finding unique Appalachian Crafts, you are right where you need to be!
Guest access:
Guests have access to the entire home on the vast 20-acre Mountaintop.
Other things to note:
The Jocassee Overlook will be stocked with a variety of coffees and coffee supplies as well as your basic spices. Bear in mind the kitchen is fully stocked with glassware, dishes, pots, pans, appliances and gadgets in the event you want to prepare any meals during your stay. New convection & microwave ovens, food ninjas, steamers & fryers… even a Bosch warming food drawer will be at your disposal. All linens and towels are provided along with extra blankets, pillows, towels for hot tub, etc. There will be an easily accessible, generous supply of cured split logs for the upstairs wood-burning fireplace. (The downstairs has its own brand new gas-burning fireplace.)Additionally, the resort will be stocked with plenty of games for the kids and adults alike, including poker tables, chips, bridge tables, an Olympic-size pool table, and a pub-style dartboard...
Not to mention a 5-person hot tub whose view spans from Sassafras Mountain to Greenville/Spartanburg to The Gorges and westward to Lake Hartwell, Cashiers NC & Mountain City Georgia! While the main floor great room offers abundant spacious plush seating with a huge 90-inch high definition tv, the downstairs quarters is equally spacious and comfortable ,with its own separate “vibe” and another 90 inch smart tv. And if you just can’t check that cellphone and laptop at the door, high-speed, fiber optic WIFI runs throughout the home. While The Jocassee Overlook is truly the perfect intimate place to get away from it all and bond with family or close friends, the floor plan also provides many places to escape: A screened in side porch complete with a swing bed, a front porch , side sundeck & huge great porch. If you don’t feel like chilling in the many hand made local rockers, feel free to hop in the chair swing as well. If it’s a different floor you seek, downstairs boasts two huge couches, a full-size futon and a private patio/grill area with Rockers and a sliding swing bench— with the same PRIME VIEW! You will be hard-pressed to find anything similar. You have so much space and privacy coupled with the security of relaxing atop the tallest mountain peak, all contained in a secure gated subdivision.

Why they chose this property
This place is truly in the best Mountain Zone I’ve ever seen: it’s where the warm air of South Carolina rises from the uninterrupted Jocassee Gorges and meets the cool crisp air rolling down from the great Smoky Mountains from the Blue Ridge. I think winter may be my favorite season because it always sees snow. But any season is amazing and my family has owned this property for almost three decades. It is my honor to carry the torch forward and make it the ideal place for vacationers or weekend getaway seekers..
What makes this property unique
I think the fact that it is a premier vacation home with all the modern conveniences, yet it also has the vibe of the iconic mountain cabin downstairs. The two completely separate living areas are ideal for families that need to spread out. Separate adults from children. Etc. The Jocassee Overlook offers everything…Fireplace or Gas burning downstairs and Wood burning upstairs. There’s a huge grill outside. The property is so fast you can hike all weekend long and I even made a campsite in the medium in the front complete with fire pit and I don’t think there is a better view of southern Appalachia from any place in the world that beats the view from the five person Hot Tub.!
