About this property

Dog Friendly with Lake and Mountain Views!

Bear Crossing Cabin is a comfortable, dog-friendly cabin on a hill overlooking Shadow Mountain Lake with panoramic views of mountains and national forest. Mount Bryant, with its natural crescent moon and sun shapes can be seen from the living room and the large deck. Our cabin is minutes from all the fun the Grand Lake area has to offer. Less than 10 minutes to Grand Lake Village, 13 minutes to the western entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, 5 minutes to County Road 4 and snowmobile trails, and less than 2 minutes to the Green Ridge public boat launch. We are 15 minutes to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing at the Grand Lake Nordic center, 20 minutes to Ski Granby Ranch for a taste of alpine skiing, and only 40 minutes from Winter Park Resort for those seeking the thrill of Mary Jane.

This 2 bedroom 1.75 bath cabin is on over .75 acres of land and features a 300 square foot loft for reading, relaxing, game play, or for an extra sleeping area. We have a mini multi-game table that interchanges between table tennis and pool, and a variety of family-friendly games suitable for all ages.

Walk into the large, open great room and have a seat on the comfortable three-person couch, or cozy up on the over-sized chair with your feet up on the ottoman to watch TV or gaze out the window. Have dinner on the large deck or in the dining area. We have a very well stocked kitchen with all of your utensil and cooking needs. Sauce pans, fry pans, bakeware, cutlery, plates, cutting boards, and even a crock pot and blender are available for your use. We stay in the cabin too, and love to cook, so we made sure to stock the cabin with everything we (and you) would need for that purpose, including a chef's knife, utility knife, filet knife, and bread knife.

As you walk down the hall of Bear Crossing Cabin, you will find a large closet to your right that houses a washer and dryer for your use. A closet next to it houses a first aid kit...just in case that fish proves harder to filet than you thought! Continue to the end of the hallway and you will find a bedroom on each side. To the right is the master bedroom with a beautiful, custom-made beetle-kill pine queen-sized bed. You will also find a 6 drawer chest and a walk in closet that includes a laundry bag, an extra pillow, blanket, iron and ironing board, and additional duvets. Across the hall is the second bedroom with a 9 drawer dresser, a full length mirror, a large reach-in closet, and a custom-made rustic queen bed made from beetle kill and pallet boards. We know that not everyone sleeps on the same firmness of mattress, so each bedroom features a different level of firmness. The master bedroom has a luxury, Euro-top, moderately firm mattress. The second bedroom has a comfortable pillow-top for those who prefer a less-firm mattress and more of a sink-in feeling. We also have seasonal duvets to provide you the right amount of warmth in each season.

The master bathroom is en-suite to the master bedroom and has a shower. There is a full bath with a tub/shower combination in the bathroom in the hallway. We provide towel sets for all guests to be used in the cabin, but beach towels are the responsibility of guests.

Take a stroll from the living room out onto the large, wrap-around deck. We feature a patio dining table that seats six with an umbrella that is easily cranked open. The umbrella also tilts to accommodate various positions of the sun. Walk the deck towards the north side of the house and you will find a portion of the deck that is covered. This area houses our three-burner gas grill for your use, and a porch swing with mountain views and views of Shadow Mountain Lake.

To the south side of the house, you will find a fire-pit area with plenty of bench seating. Roast marshmallows for smores, or warm up in the evening while enjoying a starry night.

We love dogs and have two very large ones, so Bear Crossing Cabin is, naturally, dog-friendly. You and your fur friends will find a variety of flowers, fir trees, and aspen on the large property. At night, the foliage from this nature helps increase the feeling of privacy. We are also a short distance from a variety of dog-friendly hiking trails, including the Granby Pump Canal that carries water from Lake Granby to Shadow Mountain Lake, and a woodsy area with multiple trails where dogs can roam off-leash.

In addition to being dog lovers, we are art lovers and like to support working artists. Much of the decor was created by Colorado artists, and the beds, coffee table, outside cedar bench, and bed-side tables were custom-made by a family-owned company in Wyoming.

DRIVEWAY & WINTER: Our driveway is approximately 80 feet long and slightly sloped. In winter the drive, though plowed, is packed snow. Winter tires and/or chains are advised. On sunny sunny days over 20F the snow can become slushy.
Though we can accommodate trailers they will need to be reversed in, the turning space is tight. Trailers over 20 feet long are not recommended. Any large trailers can be a challenge in winter, please provide details to see if we are able to meet your needs.

** Please note that this property features exterior audio and video security cameras for the entryway and driveway to ensure guest safety. These do not look into any interior spaces **

**We HIGHLY suggest you purchase trip insurance to protect your booking in the event of emergency or need to cancel outside of our policy**

We hope you enjoy Bear Crossing Cabin and all it has to offer as much as we do!

We really enjoyed a week away from work in a beautiful cabin and environment. The cabin is close to downtown Grand Lake but not so close that you feel like people are around everywhere. I am wishing I was still there now!

Cozy Cabin with a view

The cabin was comfortable, had everything we needed and was in close proximity to restaurants and hiking trails. The view was breathtaking and the firepit and deck area is where we spent most of our time. We would stay here again.

Beautiful spring break winter wonderland

The cabin was beautiful, the snowy views of the lake were great and the full moon coming over the mountains was breathtaking. Walking the connecting dirt roads was great every morning for taking the dogs on walks. We spent a lot of time in Fraser and Winter Park which were close and great winter activity towns.

Comfy cabin with beautiful views

Really enjoyed our stay. The house was very comfortable and close to everything. We were apart of the Tri-Lakes ice fishing tournament so coming back to that fire place was amazing. This is more of a preference issue but the shower heads weren't the greatest. Would definitely stay get again though. We love Grandby so I'm sure we will.

Nice Location and Winter View

Location of the house and the view from the deck were nice! Location worked really well for our visit! Short drives to Grand Lake, Granby, and the reservoirs. House and area were clean; very comfortable. Parking was tight with a trailer but was able to back down the driveway and into parking area with no problem. It would have been difficult to park another vehicle or two along with my pickup and trailer. Owner/Manager responsive to questions and very pleasant to chat with.

Cabin wasn't very clean. There was dog pee stains on hardwood floor. Bugs on carpet in master bedroom. Stain on comforter in master bedroom. Only 5 towels for 5 people! The hot water heater is not sufficient. If you were the last person taking a shower, you were taking a cold shower!

Winter Wonderland!!

Beautiful warm and spacious cozy cabin, kept beautifully decorated and stocked with all necessary kitchen utensils, pans, plates, etc.! We stayed 4 days and it was perfect. Owners were quick to respond to our questions since it was our first time navigating the snow and we did get alot of snow! Make sure you have the vehicle/tires during the snow season! Although the roads get maintained with plowing, snow can be tricky for us newbies. They left a notebook with lots of helpful info. Our teenagers and us took advantage of the mini pool table and had a lot of fun. Beautiful outdoor views from inside the property. Washer/dryer was helpful to clean towels. It's obvious owners take pride in their amazing cabin and we definitely recommend!! Thank you for letting us enjoy your beautifully maintained and clean home! We captured many exciting memories that we will forever remember ❤️

Absolutely perfect cabin and location. Check-in and out was super easy and reasonable. Five minutes from downtown Grand Lake but secluded enough to feel like you’re in the mountains. Cabin was stunning with every single thing you could possibly need to prepare meals. The outdoor seating is perfect with spectacular views. The beds were comfortable and we all slept really well. Being from Missouri, we were surprised there was no AC but we didn’t need it with the windows open and we had wonderfully cool evenings every night. We enjoyed the fit pit every night and had a lot of laughs and memories were made. Also, I’m not sure how I didn’t realize this but the cabin is only ten minutes from the west entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. And it’s spectacular! There are so many options for hiking, fishing, etc within 5-10 mins of the cabin. Downtown Grand Lake is adorable with plenty of food options (Grand Pizza was yum!) The only thing my teenage boys said was missing was a hot tub

Family Trip to Rocky Mt Ntnl Park

We loved this beautiful cabin! It was the perfect home base for our adventures into Rocky Mountain National Park. It was a bit louder with road noise than we anticipated, being set over the main road, but we found that it did not detract from the beauty or peaceful ambience. It also offered a super convenient drive into Grand Lake, or the park or down to Granby! The house was clean and well-stocked, and we loved that there were even family games and puzzles to complement our evenings. Our girls, ages 10, 12 & 14 especially loved hanging out in the loft playing pool, and my husband and I loved drinking coffee on the porch swing watching the sun rise over the mountains. Jennifer was very responsive and clear in communicating. We loved it here!

Perfect Get -Away

We felt right at home in this beautiful cabin. We did not close the blinds at night until the sky was black because the views are so wonderful! We enjoyed the fire-pit while watching the stars. (Forgive us if the doorknobs were a bit sticky- those smores made it hard to turn the doorknobs going in!) The kitchen had everything we needed to cook and was so clean and organized. None of us wanted to leave!!!! Thank you!!

We first stayed in the Grand Lake area four years ago in a tiny lodge that allowed our 75 pound dog, Yogi, for an extra fee. We loved the area so much that we continued to visit several times a year. Yogi loved the area too, but we often had a difficult time finding an affordable, dog-friendly rental. Then, we adopted Izzy, and it proved even more difficult to find an affordable rental that would allow two large dogs.

Each time we visited the Grand Lake area with our dogs, we could see how much Yogi and Izzy (affectionately referred to as Yogi-Bear and Izzy-Bear) loved the area. Like us, they love hiking, water sports, and snow sports, and we became determined to find a place we, and our bears, could call home. After about a year of hunting, we found the perfect cabin with views we loved on a lot of land large enough for Yogi and Izzy to run and play. We know there are bears and other wildlife in Grand Lake, but really, we named Bear Crossing Cabin, for our loving, happy four-legged friends and look forward to sharing our home with you and yours.

Why they chose this property

Bear Crossing Cabin is on a hill which allows for panoramic views of the mountains and Shadow Mountain Lake. It is on over .75 acres which provides plenty of space for people and dogs alike to spread out and relax. The large, wrap around deck and numerous windows ensure you have a great view from nearly everywhere on the property.

What makes this property unique

Bear Crossing Cabin does not charge an extra pet fee. We also do not have a weight limit for dogs. All we ask is that your dog (or dogs) be house trained, well behaved, and you clean up after your dog(s) outside. The cabin is ideally located on a hill and a large lot of land with only a few neighbors for those who value privacy and do not want to rent in an area where homes are on top of each other. We are also located in the heart of the Grand Lake area and only a few minutes from many local attractions. Swim, hike, kayak, snow shoe, or ski within 3-15 minutes of pulling out of the driveway. We have comfortable beds, a well-stocked kitchen, and great views from nearly every window. We feature a well-stocked kitchen and provide bed linens and towels to reduce your packing load so when you arrive you can immediately relax and enjoy your vacation.
