Beautiful views from the living room and porch. Great location- close to town but is very quiet. Lots of animals and birds to see right outside the door.
As avid hikers in Rocky Mountain National Park, we loved the convenience of the location, as well as the peaceful respite the house provided each afternoon and evening. Close to Grand Lake, we were able to shop and eat in town when we wanted, or enjoy the peaceful quiet of the back porch, looking out at Shadow Mountain Lake and the surrounding mountains. Loved our stay!
This is a beautiful peaceful clean mountain home with views of shadow mountain lake. We loved sitting in the deck and watching all the birds going in and out of all the birdhouses in trees that were just a few feet away. All the wood inside the house was gorgeous too. 10/10
We spent 4 days at Penny and enjoyed every minute of it! The house is the perfect location for hiking, kayaking, and exploring the local town. We have already recommended the location to several friends and family!
Stayed here for a week for a family gathering in the Grand Lake area. Lovely, well furnished, comfortable home with great view of Shadow Mountain Lake. Very relaxing deck to watch the birds and lake. We were there for the 4th of July and the deck was great for watching the Grand Lake fireworks. Spacious master suite, living room with huge window looking over the lake, great kitchen. Highly recommend.
Great rustic spot snuggled in the hills just a stone’s throw away from the main drag of Gand Lake. The whole family enjoyed the weekend of hiking, fishing, and splashing in the lake. Most importantly, we’d definitely stay here again. Thanks for hosting!
Our family would definitely come back to Penny Lane. The leather chairs were super comfy. The view and birds were beautiful. I could get use to cooking and seeing the mountain and water everyday. It was close enough to trails and all the hustle and bustle of Grand Lake but still had some seclusion. Shadow mountain lake and Lake Granby are bigger and less crowded if you're looking to do water activities. Only thing I didn't care for were all the cobwebs outside collecting pollen/bugs around the windows and on the balcony.
We stayed at the Penny Lodge and had a great time. Very quiet neighborhood, beautiful site of the stars and lake. Close to town and the lake, just a a few minute drive.
We went to Beacon Landing to rent a pontoon boat, and had a blast on the bigger lake!
I'd recommend this house for families of 4-6 people. Basement has a nice living room setup. Master bedroom has on suite. Kitchen had everything possible we needed too which was great because we cooked a lot.
Overall a fun, peaceful weekend!
We had a terrific stay at Penny Bar Lodge!
The bedrooms were roomy, the bathrooms clean, the kitchen well stocked and organized. The view of Shadow Mtn Lake from the deck was incredible.
This location is darn near perfect, close to RMNP and Grand Lake. We had two great hikes while we were here; Penny was a great place to relax and unwind afterwards! We had a mule deer in the backyard and the hummingbirds were very entertaining. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer. Mike was easily accessible and a gracious host. I hope we have the opportunity to stay here again!!
10 stars!

Liked: Cleanliness, location, listing accuracy
Disliked: Check-in
Spacious house with wonderful view
There was plenty of room in the house for all 5 of us to separate when desired. I liked that master bedroom was on opposite side of house from the 2 other bedrooms. And we had a lake view. Super. Everyone was happy.
Beautiful home, great layout, great location!! 2 car attached garage with electric opener! Stunning view from living room window and back deck. All around great property. And Mike was super easy to deal with as well!!
Highly recommend if you are in the area!! We give "Penny" an A++
We were in Grand Lake for my son’s wedding. It wasn’t a long stay (just arrive Thursday and check-out Monday). We flew to CO from PA so we couldn’t pack a lot of things. I was hosting the rehearsal dinner and made five lasagnas and a huge salad. The kitchen was stocked with everything I needed (big pots, big bowls, utensils) it was wonderful. The rest of the lodge was stocked well also with towels, blankets, pillows. It was a little chilly and we made a cozy fire in the fireplace. We even had a visitor…a little mouse showed up and was so tame. My husband picked him up, put him in a cup and put him outside. If we ever visit Grand Lake again, we’ll be sure to stay at the Penny Bar Lodge.
Spacious, quiet house very close to RMNP west entrance
A nice place to stay for our Rocky Mountain NP visit. The west park entrance is just minutes away from the house, the cute town of Grand Lake is also very close, and a grocery store is 20 minutes away. The kitchen was great, our kids loved the basement space, and deer in the backyard were a bonus.
A few drawbacks... the house was difficult to find when we arrived in the dark, it could have been a bit cleaner, and we found the king-sized bed in the master bedroom uncomfortable. We also might have preferred staying near the east entrance of the park, as most of the sights are on that side.
Overall a spacious, quiet house and a good experience.
We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Penny Lodge! It was very clean and we had everything we needed! Our family was getting together for a wedding at a house nearby and this location was great. Also very close to the little town for food and shopping! Kate who we met when we arrived even brought us coffee and creamer from her own home! Overall an amazing stay and I would definitely recommend!!
We enjoyed our time here. The cabin was everything we could have needed. It kept my family entertained. :). The beds were great, and it felt just like home. Mike was more than accommodating . Thank you for sharing your home!
Great location, clean, convenient, great view of the lake & mountains, short drive to downtown Grand Lake, close to Rocky Mountains National Park. Thanks so much !
We are so grateful for another (almost) week at the Penny Bar Lodge. This is such a lovely place, so well-kept and -stocked by the caring owners. We loved mornings and evenings on the back deck, watching the hummingbirds and enjoying the view of the lake. Plus there's great proximity to town and to hikes, fishing, and kayaking.
We had an absolutely lovely time at Penny Bar Lodge. The home doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't let that discourage you — because this little cabin has it all. Amazing kitchen and living area, with comfortable furniture and seemingly brand new redone kitchen. The views from the living room and back porch are serene and gorgeous. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious and comfortable — and there's even a large basement gameroom! Complete with bar, fireplace and games galore.
We also really enjoyed the location. Close enough to town to pop in for dinner, but "away" enough to not feel like right in the middle of everything. And the views — hard to beat!
Will definitley be coming back to stay again! A++ all the way around! :-)
Perfect cabin for a wonderful lake experience. Located in an ideal spot to get to town quickly... very close to marina for boating. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. Gracious hosts... highly recommend for couples or families with several children. Thanks for a fantastic stay!!
