About this property
Quaint Cottage Located 15 Miles From Blacksburg VA
The cottage has spacious bedrooms with hardwood floors, original plaster walls & a kitchen island made from early 1900 2ft wide boards. Both sofas fold out into beds for extra accommodations. It sits near the New River and the Norfolk & Western railway and, as such, the train is active and passes by several times a night, please be aware of the potential for train noise.
The cottage is not suitable for large groups or parties.
There is a stove with oven, a microwave and toaster, a refrigerator, cookware, plates, cups, glassware and silverware.
All bedding and towels are provided.
We have Smart TV locally made soap and locally roasted coffee. We provide ear plugs for guests who prefer not to hear the train.
The cottage is located next to The Palisades Restaurant in an old resort village which was once a thriving destination and a stop on the N & W Railroad. A destination once again, the village is coming back to life with an award winning restaurant, artisan shop and now lodging.
As an added service, we guarantee dinner reservations at The Palisades Restaurant for guests. Please request reservations for the day, time and number of guests at the time of booking. Reservations requests cannot be guaranteed last minute.
No public transportation exists.

About the host
Hosted by Shaena Muldoon

Shaena grew up in Pembroke, Virginia just two miles from the site of the cottage. She remembers visiting Pyne's General Store, which was located right next to the cottage, as a little girl with her family. In 2009, she turned the building into The Palisades Restaurant. She has been in the restaurant and event businesses for over 20 years. Her extensive experience includes producing high-profile worldwide events such as the award-winning 2004 International VSA Arts Festival in Washington, D.C., the 2002 U.S. Olympic Torch Relay and the 1998 World Exposition in Lisbon, Portugal.
After traveling to all of the seven continents, including Antarctica, Shaena has returned to Giles County which she considers one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

Why they chose this property
Mr. Hunter's Cottage is located in Giles County – one of the most scenic areas in Virginia. Before dining at the Palisades restaurant right next door, you can work up an appetite by hiking to the Cascades, a natural waterfall. Or grab a paddle and canoe down the New River – the worlds second oldest waterway. Or visit Giles’ three historic covered bridges – the most of any county in the state. Giles County offers numerous recreational activities so there's more than just one reason you’ll want to come to visit.
What makes this property unique
Enjoy the rumble of passing trains as the cottage is located 50 feet from the tracks in the bucolic mountains of southwest Virginia.
