The Little Cottage (TLC) is a sweet retreat where families, couples, or individuals will find the TLC (tender loving care) they need to recharge and renew! The cottage was built in the 1920's and has been well taken care of and updated over the years keeping the original character and adding modern features and appliances. It has a gas fireplace in the living room. Reliable internet/Wi-Fi and streaming TV are all available.
The cottage is well-stocked with games, books, toys, and movies for all ages. The owner is an artist and will supply an easel and some other supplies if you would like to paint. Spend a day site-seeing and taking photographs and then paint your impressions of the beauty of Estes Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, and all the surrounding areas. If you are a writer, there is inspiration for miles around, a desk in one of the bedrooms near a window with a view of trees and rock outcroppings and mountains
There are 2 bedrooms (queen in one and a double in the other) and 1 bathroom with tub/shower, window, and a ceiling heat lamp (for those chilly summer or winter mornings). The cozy living/dining room has a big picture window that overlooks a wooded lot with rock outcroppings and has views of the mountains to the north (including the Twin Owls and Lumpy Ridge). Elk and deer often can be seen browsing here or rutting in the autumn months. A sweet little elk calf was born under a tree here in spring of 2015!
The living room sofa pulls out to make a double-sized bed. There is a 42" flat screen TV and a Blu-ray player. Wi-Fi/Internet is on site as well. Enjoy the fire in the gas fireplace when you are relaxing in the living room. The dining table seats 6. The kitchen was updated and is complete with cherry cabinets, granite countertops, gas range, microwave, refrigerator with ice maker, dishwasher, garbage disposer and all the dishes and small appliances you will need! There is a full-sized high-efficiency washer/dryer set for your convenience.
You will love having a cookout on the deck which wraps around on two sides. The grill is hooked up to the gas line, so you do not have to worry about running out of fuel. There is a patio table that seats 6. There is a fire-pit table for roasting marshmallows and being mesmerized by the flames. (You can check with the city for fire restrictions we may have if it has been very dry before your visit.) From the deck or kitchen window you can watch your children play in the playhouse/fort up on stilts or on the swing set.
Estes Park is a wonderful small town in a high-mountain valley surrounded by mountains. Rocky Mountain National Park is about a 15 or 20 minute drive to the entrance. Most of the year you may have to contact RMNP in advance of your stay and make reservations to get into the park. Plan for most of a whole day to see the park and get out of your car and take some of the hikes and take lots of photos. Be sure to bring a jacket and drink plenty of water (prevents headaches up at this altitude). Perhaps you will drive Trail Ridge Road and visit Grand Lake and Granby, CO or even Steamboat Springs, if you stay with us sometime between Memorial Day and Labor Day or maybe as late as mid-October (it is closed during the winter because the snow buries the roads). There are many shops and restaurants in town and the surrounding areas and a lovely river walk along the Big Thompson River in town. The lake offers fishing and boating (rent a paddle boat one day) and beautiful scenery. Horseback riding is available 365 days a year.
You can choose to be as active as you wish and then come back to the cottage for rest and relaxation or games and toys for fun.
If you have a very young child, we have a small crib and a highchair available as well. Just let us know in advance.
We hope you will love staying here! Let us know of any specific needs you may have.

Why they chose this property
This property was built in 1920! It turned 100 years old in 2020! It has been well taken care of over the years by a number of owners. All of the windows, plumbing, electricity, and the roof were updated before I bought it. It had a 1940's kitchen so I preserved as much as possible, but I updated it in many ways. It had lousy carpeting everywhere and I replaced it in the bedrooms and added hardwood flooring in the living and dining room. It is on a half-acre so there is room to play!
