Perched on top of a hill in Vallespir you will find Mas Clos d’en Guardia, where you will receive a
warm welcome from Vicky and Chris, the proud owners of this house whose origins go back to the 15th century. You will find a place to relax and enjoy the beautiful garden, the swimming pool on a hot day or a dinner outside on the terrace with stunning views. We will come back some time soon!

Dear Vincent
Thank you very much for your positive review. It was a great pleasure to spend some time with your family & you're welcome back any time!
We had an amazing time in this beautiful house with our family. It was far more than we expected, and attention to detail was incredible. The boys had a wonderful time in and out of the pool where they spent most of their time when we weren't going out. We, as grandparents, loved the poolside apartment which was so comfortable and private. We had the best night's sleep there as it was so peaceful. Thank you Chris and Vicky for not only making us so welcome, but also for giving us so much help and information about places to visit and eat, many of which we took advantage of. Thank you for a brilliant holiday. Robin, Sue, Nat, Vini, Rudi, Flynn and Arlo xx

We had the most perfect stay in a lovely location. Superbly equipped house and additional annex. Lovely pool. Amazing views and local amenities in striking distance; a couple of us even walked up Pic du Canigou. But top prize goes to hosts Chris and Vicky (and their sons). Attentive to just the right degree. Made sure we had all we needed for a five star stay. They could not be more helpful and generous, and went out of their way to make us feel at home. Even supplied emergency wine and bread on one occasion! Both are very knowledgeable about the area and keen to advise. Highly recommend this as a destination!

From the moment we arrived, we felt truly welcomed by Chris and Vicky. Their home is beautifully decorated—comfortable, spotless, and full of thoughtful touches to make sure we had everything we needed. Surrounded by lush greenery, the whole place has such a calming, peaceful atmosphere that we felt relaxed right away.We all loved the pool and spent lots of quality family time there. Our children felt completely at home, making friends and enjoying the forest and park area within the garden. There were so many different corners to explore—they honestly could have spent the whole week there without ever leaving! Chris and Vicky are natural hosts, and their local knowledge was invaluable. They gave us some fantastic recommendations for walks, places to visit, and great spots to eat. Chris is also an excellent cycling guide—he took us on some brilliant local routes that suited all the different levels in our group. We also made the most of the relaxing atmosphere by booking massages with Adeline, who worked wonders on everyone’s tired muscles and added to the overall sense of calm. The hot tub was an extra treat—especially at night, when we relaxed under the stars and even caught a meteor shower. Magnifique! A huge thank you to Chris and Vicky for their warm hospitality, generosity, and kindness. We’re so grateful to have experienced not only their beautiful home but also the lovely community around it.

Thanks Brad, you made my day with the 'just perfect bit'. It was a pleasure to welcome you and see you enjoy the house and the area. Thank you for being such respectful and fun guests - 10 out of 10! Chris

The hidden gem
What a beautiful paradise hidden away in South West France. The house itself is so beautiful and oozes character. In front of the fireplace is the place to be on cool nights! I can only imagine what it's like in summer in the beautiful gardens and being able to laze around the swimming pool taking in all the surrounding nature.
I rode my motorcycle there and there are many beautiful roads in the area keeping riders entertained for weeks I'm sure. I also loved the ambience created by the creek close to the property, however you cannot hear this inside so it doesn't disturb your sleep.
On the whole, it's a beautiful, peaceful place to be. I fell in love with this place in the short time I was there.

About the host
Hosted by Christopher Bratherton
Hi! We are Chris and Vicky, a British couple living in the South of France with our two kids and Vicky's mum. Our home is your home for your vacation and we will be on site (in a different building) during your stay to help ensure every element is perfect. From discreetly maintaining the pool and garden to firing up the hot tub ready for you to relax after a day of exploring, we are happy to be as hands-on, or hands-off, as you wish. We have lived here since 2018 but have known the area for much longer, so feel free to ask us for recommendations for places to go during you stay. We are keen cyclists and also run a cycling holiday business from Mas Clot d'en Guardia (Pyrenees.cc), so ask us for bike hire options and cycling routes!
Why they chose this property
We have been coming to the Vallespir for holidays since the early 2000s and took a chance to buy a property here while our eldest was a baby. The peace and tranquility, being close to nature, breathing fresh air and drinking mountain spring water are the small pleasures we enjoy, but also being locate between the Mediterranean sea, the mountains and the Spanish border allows us to have the best of many worlds! Not to mention the 300 days of sunshine a year...
What makes this property unique
We are located 2km up a dirt track, quite literally 'off the beaten track', yet only 10-15 minutes drive from the nearest town. Our 15th century farmhouse is a truly unique space, with wooden beams and stone walls, but with all the modern comforts you expect, such as fast Wi-Fi, smart TV and the all-important espresso machine. The property is split into two parts: the main farmhouse with three bedrooms, a fully fitted kitchen and spacious living and dining room; and the poolside studio apartment with bedroom, kitchenette, private bathroom and patio. Ideal for two families, groups of friends or three generations to share.
The garden is a haven for flora and fauna with an abundance of fruit trees, Mediterranean herbs and enormous aloe vera. The infinity pool boasts views across the valley while the hot tub provides a perfect place to watch the sunset and the stars come out. There's even a children's playground with swings, slide and trampoline.
