About this property

Slice of heaven cabin

Relax away from the bustle and busyness of the city and enjoy a break in a quiet rural environment surrounded by native bush and be lulled by the nearby river and bird song. Enjoy the smell of timber within our architecturally designed cottage with high wooden ceilings, wood paneled walls, wooden stairs and kitchen and hand crafted furniture.

Recharge with a book or a walk on our property or on nearby bushwalks, or explore all that Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty has to offer. Bethlehem Town Centre is 15 minutes away, Omokoroa, 15 minutes, Katikati 25 minutes, Tauranga 25 minutes and Mt Maunganui with its world famous beach is a 30 minute drive away.

Fully self-contained cottage with mezzanine sleeping loft with double bed, full kitchen with oven, gas hob and fridge, bathroom with shower and enjoy a loo with a view. A pullout sofa bed in the lounge creates a double bed, dining facility for up to four, a pellet fire for winter and WIFI.

Please note there is no mobile phone reception at the cottage.

Please also note that stair access to the mezzanine is steep – it’s an alternating tread so ones gait is the same as a normal stair but it can catch people by surprise – the pullout sofa bed in the lounge is available for those who are unable to access the stairs.

We try and be as self- sufficient and sustainable as possible and run our slice of heaven along organic lines, considering the impact our actions have upon the environment. Hence you will find we use environmentally and people safe products for cleaning in the cottage (and our home), and we try to buy Fair Trade products that support those who live in third world nations. We don’t get it right all the time – we are learning as we go and enjoy talking with others about their journey towards a similar lifestyle. Our cottage is smoke, vaping and drug free.

Ideal as a getaway for a couple, it does have a pullout sofa double bed so while two is comfortable, four would experience tiny home living.

Surrounded by farmland with views of native bush and in close proximity to a stream, there are multiple farm animals on surrounding properties visible from the drive: cows, sheep, goats, alpacas. Some distant animal noises at night can be expected (mooing etc) .

Good last minute get away
Beautiful property but no photos of stairs, it did say that the stairs were narrow but we thought nothing like that. Super hot in the summer but that is hard to fix. Over all good stay just minor things that can’t be helped like the drive way

About the host

Host profile image
After childhood experience in the country and being disheartened by the noise and small city plots we found our Slice of Heaven in the country and became proud lifestyle block owners. Mike is an architect who previously had his architectural practice within the cottage before converting it into accommodation and now works as an architect project manager in town. Liz is full time home manager and organic gardener. We are involved in our community being on the local school board of trustees and chair of the Whakamarama Community Centre/Hall committee.

Why they chose this property

We were keen to give our family a taste of the kind of childhood experiences we had growing up in rural environments - space to play, ride bikes, and peace and quiet.

What makes this property unique

We choose this property because it had a bit of land which meant we could be less dependent upon supermarkets and more self sufficient as we could grow some of our own food. We were also attracted by the beautiful bush outlook.
