Although Croton on Hudson is a suburb of New York City, there are some wild animals and birds that you may encounter from time to time. During summer time there are blue jays and other birds living in magnolia trees near the house and on occasion deer and raccoons could be spotted. A beautiful hawk lives nearby and can be seen in the morning as it flies above the house.

Away from industry and pollution, enjoy a breath of clean air and the outdoors. If you go hiking, take note that poison ivy has been spotted in the area and, as always, there are risks of ticks in any woods and tall grass, so dress appropriately. There is abundant information about ticks and tick bites on internet, it is worthwhile to be informed.

Streets in the village are illuminated but driveways tend to be a bit darker. It is noticeably darker at night on the street, compared to a large city like New York, but as an added bonus, you could see stars! Mars’ red dot is easily seen with a naked eye as well as white dots of Jupiter and Saturn. Orion's belt, Ursa Major and Minor, Vega, Polaris and many more to be discovered.

Pleasant Stay in Croton-on-Hudson

We stayed for over two months and found the apartment very relaxing. The hosts, Maria and Vadim, could not have been nicer. The apartment is within an easy walk to shops, restaurants, and parks. The Croton area is beautiful and there are many great places to walk -- Croton Reservoir, Tea Town Reserve, and Croton Point Park. I think the apartment is very good value for the price.

Everything you need and more

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the picturesque village of Croton-on-Hudson. Maria is an excellent host. She is thoughtful, attentive and friendly. She provided ample supplies to cook full dinners and stocked the bathroom better than most hotels. We will definitely be back to visit again in the future!

Always a pleasure to stay at Cortlandt Manor

We have stayed at this property many times due to the proximity to family. Maria does whatever she can to accommodate us. We have everything we need, we have space and in the warmer months, a place to sit out and enjoy a cup of coffee. We have stayed in several VRBO's but what really does it for me is the host. Their willingness to work with the customer and their schedule.

My wife and I were pleasantly surprised with this gem. Maria the owner was there to greet us and was so very helpful. This two bedroom apartment was clean and welcoming and had all the amenities we needed. Located right in town, it was within walking distance of some lovely restaurants. We would highly recommend it. A just like home place to stay

Firstly, Maria and her husband were beyond kind to us. They keep so many thoughtful extras for guests use, with the kitchen fully stocked with nice quality pots, pans, knives etc. we could not have been happier with this rental and plan to come here again yearly, when visiting our grandsons. It is also a beautiful, quiet family neighborhood with tons of recreational activities close by as well as about a 50 minute train ride to NYC. A 5star rental home, 6 stars for warmth and kindness of the hosts

An amazing getaway

Stayed at this property for two nights with friends. Couldn't ask for a better VRBO for the price and location. Every part of the stay was pleasant and the host was very inviting. Check in and check out was easy and the property had everything we could think of and more. The bedrooms both have incredibly comfortable beds with a very homey feeling. The living areas had extra phone chargers if needed, game systems, a big TV with a nice sound system, more than what we needed. I will definitely recommend this property to my family and friends and plan on staying here again.

Nice stay in Croton

We were very comfortable at this property. The beds were great and the kitchen was well stocked. Although there was a Keurig in the kitchen, I loved walking to the Black Cow for coffee and a scone every morning. We were visiting family nearby so we didn’t spend much time in the apartment but it was in a great location for us and served our needs. There is off street parking so no worries there. The neighbors were very friendly as well so all and all a pleasant experience.

We Will Be Sure to Return to Grand St.

We had a GRAND experience from the introduction to our hosts to our nine night stay. There are stairs but the view of the trees & sky from the porch makes them worth it & are doable.. Maria & husband, your hosts, are so kind & helpful with all questions & requests that it’s a true pleasure to deal with them. Accommodations are comfortable & Immaculate. Location is lovely & convenient. The town is in walking distance & has all you could ask for & a 2 minute ride has more creature choices. Thank you for all your kindness Will see you on our return for sure.

GREAT EXPERIENCE

Our family traveled from LA and Chicago to Croton to meet our new grandchild and felt very lucky to find lodgings in Maria’s 2 bedroom apartment. The accommodations were very clean and featured a fully equipped kitchen including gas stove, microwave, coffeemaker, cutlery, dinnerware and even cooking ingredients (spices, olive oil and pots/pans). The bathroom came with quality toiletry products including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc. We were very comfortable during our 6 night stay. Maria was hospitable and always responded promptly to our emails. Shops and restaurants are within walking distance. The property also accommodated a parking space for the vehicle we used for sight seeing. We were extremely happy with all the great amenities and will undoubtedly return for future visits.

Good accommodation with food opportunities within walking distance.

Although the term “luxury” in the site description may be over stating it, the apartment was not without its charm. It might be more accurate to call it “shabby chic”; its an older building but well kept and clean and very comfortable. The lessor was very pleasant and she provides some materials such as dish detergent and paper towels with the rental as well as toiletries, which was nice. The neighborhood is colorful but there were no concerns when we walked our two small dogs at any time of day. The primary street doesn’t have much in the way of parking, so it is best to walk the long block into town. Be sure to take the time to visit Croton Gorge Park to view the waterfall, dam, and aqueduct.

Old and dirty

This property was not updated and not up to our standards of cleanliness. Bubbled plaster, marks on walls, dirt caked around baseboards and molding. There were stains on the comforter in one room snd the sheets in the other. I had my phone plugged in charging and when I unplugged it the entire outlet came out of the wall. I would not recommend this rentsl.

Wonderful

When we arrived we met the owner and she was very pleasant and kind. The 2 bedroom apartment was clean and had so many amenities. There were slippers for everyone, a video game set with a large assortment of games and the TV had so many pay stations to watch. The owner even had a bowl of water waiting for our dogs after our long car ride. Though everything was great, the best was the beds. Both of them had very comfortable mattresses, sheets and comforters. To our surprise, they both had controls for adjusting them. We all loved this place. I would easily say it was a great stay.

Why they chose this property

This house was originally built by a mason, who was working on the Croton Dam in the early 1900s. It survived through the Great Depression by having a convenience store on the first floor. At first it was a small farm house, but with time, it grew into a large house with several apartments.

Even though Croton on Hudson is a relatively small village, it is not “lost in the woods” and has a walk score of 62. The roads may be somewhat active during rush hour, although there is no traffic jams or congestion in the village, to and from train station. As soon as you leave the populated area and go into a natural park like the Tea Town Lake Reservation, you can enjoy nature to its fullest with 1000 acres of protected terrain and 15 miles of hiking trails.

What makes this property unique

Croton on Hudson is a quiet and welcoming community 45 min away from Grand Central, NYC. Croton has beautiful views of Hudson river nearby, surrounded by wooded hills and creeks. Rich with history, art and nature it is truly a weekend retreat. It is a place of several seasonal festivals like Clearwater Music and the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze.

• Close to the train station (‘Croton Harmon’).
• Walking distance from everything.
• Black Cow – a great local place to have a cup of coffee.
• Blue Pig – a local ice cream shop with a great selection of seasonal flavors.
• A pedestal “dummy streetlight”, on the way to coffee shop you will pass a street light, one of just three left in New York State, a little piece of history.
• Parks, bicycle trails and hiking.
• There is also a ski area (‘Thunder Ridge’) a short drive away.
• Teatown Lake Reservation has 1000 acres and 15 miles of trails.
• Croton Gorge Park has 97 acres by the stunning waterfall from the New Croton Dam. Weddings and picnics often take place here.
• Van Cortlandt Manor, a National Historic Landmark, built in 1665 by the Dutch. Hosts the Lantern Blaze in the fall
• Croton Landing Park offers beautiful views of the Hudson River and the Palisades. Contains a 9/11 memorial tribute. Great location for cycling or picnics.
• Croton Point Park hosts the annual Clearwater Festival in June (since 1966) with 15,000 visitors and live music.

Although having a car makes it easier to get around, there are plenty of ways to enjoy yourself in the area without one. A respectable walkscore of 62 with a plenty of sidewalks in the village and places to eat and drink located relatively close. There is Enterprise car rental in Croton.
