Felt like stepping back in time, 10 foot ceilings, classic older trim, very roomy and comfortable. We would go there again to stay in this historical home.
This historic home has lots of charm and character. We had everything we needed for our stay. Small town located near many very cool hikes. Loved, loved our stay!
Very clean, has everything you would need. Perfect location to explore Bryce Canyon as well as slot canyons and burr trail. Will definitely be going back to see more of the area.
This property was perfect for our adventure in Utah's National Parks. Great location for both Bryce Canyon and Escalante Staircase. It was a clean and beautiful base.
We really enjoyed our srat in 119 year old Napoleon home in Escalante. Its history is interesting. It is updated. The amenities were great with a brand new ROKU TV aa
Our family of 4 spent a wonderful 10 days at the Pioneer House in Escalante. We appreciated the location near many great hikes, comfortable beds, kitchen to cook together, the history of the house, and the fact that our dog was welcome.
Kasia was helpful, friendly, and responsive when we asked to extend out stay- no one wanted to leave! Wifi worked well and there are lots of thoughtful touches throughout. We'll be back!
We were very comfortable with everything at the house. That included sleeping spaces, large dining room for sharing food and playing cribbage, and kitchen for making breakfast and lunches for our outings, the living room was so comfortable for relaxing. Except we were gone all day on adventures The owners were wonderful to work with us when we asked to add another day. So helpful about hikes etc in area. We were really satisfied with our stay and would recommend it for others wanting the experience of this beautiful country. This was the perfect home base
Comfortable, clean house convenient to all the sights around Escalante
I wasn't sure what it would be like to stay in a house so old (built around the turn of the century), but it was great. We stayed for around 3 weeks to do all the hikes/camping/backpacking I've been dreaming of doing in the Escalante area. It was the perfect home base for that. The owners have updated enough to make it comfortable (new hot water heater, central heating with Nest thermostat, fiber internet), while preserving the historical charm. You can read about the history of the house and family on the walls and it is very interesting. I brought my laptop and was able to work remotely from the house. The internet speed was great -- I did conference calls, etc. with no issues. The kitchen is pretty basic -- stove/oven are old, but functional, counter space is limited for food prep, but had everything I needed to do some cooking. My only suggestion for the owners would be to replace the TV. It has all the streaming apps on it (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) but the TV itself is SLOW. The internet is fast, so the streaming is not a problem, but just clicking around the apps on the TV is painful. Overall, we had a great stay.
Beautiful home and beautiful location! Hard with one bathroom, but had plenty of space! Host was super helpful and gracious! Great place for families! Lots to do!
The owners seem in the process of restoring this wonderful old pioneer house, but so far it stops short of the complete remodel that's really needed. The many doors are pretty jenky, some working and some sealed up with duct tape. Some of the appliances are a little tired. The finish work old and patchy. All the "patina" makes it too easy for grime to hide in cracks and corners. All that said, the beds are clean and comfy. The shower is decent. The dining room and family room are excellent spaces for the family to be together. I feel good that my rent money might help the further improvement of this great house.
The story of house and family is what makes it special. Thanks for sharing your home with us, we are looking forward to visiting your home and town again.
Such a charming place to stay. I loved the history book on the house! The location is so perfect with easy access to some of my favorite hikes in Utah.
Napoleon house was charming and in a nice quiet location. Kitchen was fully stocked with everything you night need. Dining room was large and had great light. Heating system had trouble keeping the house up to temperature. Would definitely stay there again

About the host

This Pioneer home has been in our family since 1905. We decide to purchase it to keep it in the family and are working to renovate and update it. Using it as a Vacation home has been a great way to generate income to maintain it and we love having guests enjoy the uniqueness of the home. We love coming to Escalante ourselves to visit family and hike!
Why they chose this property
This home has many emotional ties, as it was built by our Great, Great Grandfather and has been in our family for five generations. Luckily it is in a perfect location, between two National Parks and in the middle of a National Monument. So much to do and see just minutes away from the home!
