Materials to build the house were brought in on a barge from Nova Scotia and a crew from Gloucester, Mass built the house. 2 of Captain George W Cook's original navigation maps are mounted in the house. Great place to relax!
We wanted to veg out for a few days and maybe see a few migrating birds. Missed the migration (due to our own schedule restrictions) but got the veg out time. There's not a lot to do on Deer Island except explore . Great places to explore and friendly relaxed populace. If you want "low key" This is it. The house is fine--just right really. Slippery shower floor, but that we fixed with a towel.

The location and the house were truly perfect for getting away from daily grind. House is adorable and has such an interesting history. Had everything we needed and more. Location overlooking the bay provides an awesome and ever-changing view. We didn’t want to leave

A wonderful getaway by the sea
It was a true island life experience at a beautiful property that overlooks a calm area of the Bay of Fundy sheltered by islands. The fire pit on the beach really completed the experience. Just watch out for high tide 😊 The house has all the character that you would expect from the description and the owner is kind and helpful.

About the host

Host profile image
Mike is a lobster fisherman on Deer Island and Lisa is an IT professional who does consulting work and manages the family businesses. We love the water - on the water, under the water, and just looking at the water... throw in beautiful sunsets and we are in heaven and you will be too!

Why they chose this property

This place is magical is all I can say - it has 220 years of character and personality with all the modern comforts. Your front yard is the ocean and you can see the harbour bouy lights at night from your bed in the Captain's Master Suite. We use this property year around and during lobster season as crew quarters. But it is such a cool place that we wanted to open up some weeks to share this place with others and you are helping us with the maintenance and upkeep of this old house :)

What makes this property unique

Peaceful with sound of the ocean - and front row seat to harbour "traffic"
