About this property
Creole Victorian for Families
Located in the heart of the Algiers Point Historical District, this 1889 classic follows the "shotgun" style layout, all the rooms in a line, with the kitchen and bath at the rear. There are two single beds in the first room, two queens in the second, and three singles in the third. If you need more beds, just ask! By city regulation I am limited to four adults, but there is no limit on children under twenty-one. I have yet to check anyone's I.D., though. Algiers Point, the "best kept secret" of New Orleans, is just across the river from the French Quarter. A ten minute stroll on the riverfront bike path (or use bikes- I've got three, and more are easily rented)) brings you to the oldest continually operating ferry in the U.S., which makes the ten minute run every half hour. The river here is a half mile across, 260 feet deep and runs fast. Not to be missed! And you can see tall vessels sailing past from the porch! There are two "OK" restaurants, one outstanding breakfast place, and three coffee shops within two or three blocks of your door. There is lots of safe parking on the street just in front of your door for short or long term stays. The bathroom has lots of fresh towels, various toiletries, and an endless supply of hot water (at least I've never yet run out, even with twelve guests!) The kitchen is well stocked with all the regular breakfast items you expect: cold and hot cereal selections, eggs, breads, butter and other condiments, various fruits, yogurts, juices, milk, beer and wine, and soft drinks. There is a supermarket two miles off, and I am pleased to shop for any special diet items you might request. I have ducks in the back yard (kids love to feed them) which lets me offer you the freshest eggs you will ever have. The fencewd back yard is a safe place for your dog to frelax. The levee bike path is only a block away and goes for miles. I have three bikes and more can be rented easily enough. There is a new playground and park just a block away. There is a swing on the front porch so you can sit and watch the herons in their nests high above in our immense, 200 year-old oaks, "Bearded in moss and in garments green, indistinct in the bayou's twilight", as Hawthorne wrote. There is wi-fi, of course, and a radio and TV with local stations and a large selection of DVDs. You will find this house quiet, comfortable, and just the way to get a real taste for the city. 420 friendly. Once more, though, I want to stress that this is sort of an "open dorm" configuration, and the only privacy is in the bathroom.

Host was extremely welcoming & accommodating. The home was super conveniently located next to the Ferry making a trip across the river to the French quarter, Bourbon St, & the port for the cruise ships very cheap & easy. Not only did he have amenities as far as appliances, he had some food & beverages stocked. I absolutely loved the Victorian New Orleans feel the home had.
Host was very welcoming and the place was exactly as described! It is 140 yr old old house in NoLA, so understand that going in! It was well stocked with beds, good and toiletries! Terrific location to public transit to the French Quarter. Safe neighborhood.
Arrived at the location to find that it had been double booked. Couldn’t get in contact with the host. The lady that was watching over the property informed me that my name was on the calendar for that day, but since the other family was already there that there was nothing she could do.
Host was nice, but location and the surrounding looked very bad, everything inside very out dated , bad odor, no doors for any privacy only on bathroom . Slept in my clothes on top of bed with my shoes on. Left next morning very early. Not my kind of stay . Will not return…
This house is fabulous! Our host and his doggie were fantastic!! This house had everything you'd need. The location was great. Close to the ferry landing, local grocery stores, and restaurants. The ducks were friendly too! I highly recommend this house for any and everything New Orleans!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for a great and memorable stay!!
The host was wonderfully receptive to all our needs. He went above and beyond to provide not only the perfect space but a fully stocked kitchen. We spent time talking with him, learning about the neighborhood, and the history of New Orleans. He was very insightful concerning sites that would be of interest to us. I cannot say enough, good things about this property, the neighborhood, and the host. We will definitely stay here again should we find ourselves in this part of the country in the future! Love the ducks in the backyard who seemed unaffected by my Great Dane! Thank you for a wonderful experience!

The home was very nice and met all of our needs. The host was welcoming and helpful. The area was beautiful and full of history. We had a great stay! I recommend!
The facility was not as described. It was dirty, dog hairs on the beds, some of the beds were not made up. The back door was standing wide open with a trash bag full of trash right in the middle of the door. The incense that was burning smelled terrible. 'two of our family members had an immediate allergic reaction to something in the house. It was decorated in a non-family friendly style. The owner was friendly enough but unwilling to make any accommodations or remedies. It was so bad, we were not able to stay there. We were lead to believe it was within walking distance of downtown area and it was not. Just not good.
This is an amazing creole house. We wanted the New Orleans vibe and this definitely delivered. The owner was super nice and accommodating and leaves food and drinks in the fridge for us and went above and beyond. If you want the New Orleans feel this is the place. It’s 10 minute walk away from the ferry, we didn’t get to do that because the kids didn’t want to walk but it’s super convenient. The house has so much charm. I loved it and the kids got to see New Orleans. We will be back and stay here again!
We will absolutely be returning! While the house isn’t located in the heart of the action (French Quarter), it’s conveniently close to the ferry for easy access. The host was incredibly kind, even accommodating our late checkout. The space offered plenty of sleeping areas, though not much privacy—which worked perfectly for us. Plus, the fridge was well-stocked with drinks and food, making our stay even more enjoyable. Looking forward to another quick getaway here!
The man who owns this property is wonderful! The home is filled with the culture of Louisiana. It’s not the “ritz” the home could definitely use a deep clean. For the price we paid, and the 9 people easily accommodated I couldn’t possibly complain. The hotel stay would have been triple. The ambiance of the home was like having my family in a huge slumber party. We stayed up late playing games, and woke up to enjoy coffee on the front porch swing. If you are looking for the Marriott move along, if culture, history and southern charm is what you want, this is your spot! Love this place
Absolutely amazing! Great charm and decor, amazing host

I loved the historical condition of the house. I visited with 5 other ladies for my 60th.I loved the fact that there were so many small eating places so close to where this is. Hidden Gems ...Barracuda Taco Stands fish Tacos were amazing as was the food and Service at the Dry Dock Cafe.

About the host

Hi there! I'm a retired school teacher, and after years in L.A. moved here to New Orleans in 2014 to be near my son and his family. And what a good bit of luck that was. I wanted a move, but had thought I would go back to my childhood home near Cooperstown, NY, but now I am SO HAPPY to be ion this wonderful city where I can wear a silly costume any time I want! Starting this bed and breakfast place was rough at first, but now, after three years, it is a wonderful experience for me, and I hope for you as well.
