About Mike Olson
Hello! My name is Mike Olson. Currently I live in Hawley, MN with my amazing wife, Shannon; son Eddie born in 2009; and daughter Ingrid born in 2013. Long before starting a family my first goal was to become a teacher. I attended the University of North Dakota while getting my teaching degree and playing football there for 4 years. After graduating I taught school near Seattle, Washington and then in Anchorage, Alaska. After my teaching days I worked in Bozeman, Montana as a wild land firefighter and in Scottsdale, Arizona as supervisor at the Phoenician Resort. Following those stops I landed back in the Hawley area and worked as a house framer and dry wall tape/texture/painter. These last occupations led me to have a great interest in housing and all the details that go into homes. I have now worked in real estate for 10 years and am still enjoying it. Believe it or not but my wife will soon be going back to school to become a teacher.
Mike Olson purchased this Cabin in 2015
Why Mike Olson chose Lake Park
This property is a True Minnesota Lake Cabin. Great rustic feel with some modern benefits. The acreage of fishable water is amazing.
What makes this Cabin unique
The end of the road resort if not far from our cabin. They sell bait, treats and are a great resource to have near by.

Great for fishing trips. Comfortable and has everything you’d need. Water is smelly but there’s a water cooler provided so just the shower is where that matters. That is really the only minor complaint, rest was as advertised and nice.
We had a great weekend! The only negative things I have to say is the GPS got us super lost (that was fun, thanks Mike for guiding us) and that the cabin wasn't as clean as I would have liked- a lot of cobwebs & dead bugs. But otherwise the kids, dogs, & adults had a great time. We caught too many fish to count off the dock. Mostly bluegill with a couple bass, perch, & pike thrown in. The boat was great to have as well, wish it would have been warmer, but it was getting late in the year. The kids loved swimming & floating & paddleboating. Beds were comfortable. We had everything we needed in the kitchen & in the boat house. We wouldn't have had to take any of our fishing stuff, there's plenty good stuff there! The neighbors were nice, we had no trouble with other dogs, they just played nicely with ours. We would love to go back soon!
Great cabin getaway
We had a very nice stay. The cabin was stocked well. The lake was peaceful. Looking forward to coming back next year.
Fun and cute cabin
I had a great experience with this cabin and would definitely do this again with Mike! He is a super great guy that I was lucky enough to have met as I arrived early. He showed me around and pointed out a few things to look out for. He told me to call anytime with anything and this was very reassuring knowing he could be there in no time if a problem should ever happen. I loved the place!
Nice get away
Kids had fun fishing and tubing. Overall we had a good experience. 😁
Vintage cabin on upper cormorant
Mike was very responsive to our questions but in general we were disappointed in the rental cabin.
The boathouse is cute but very dirty and lots of cobwebs.
The boat worked fine, but for three adults there were only two life jackets large enough. We later found some old kapok style jackets under the boat seat, but since it rained everyday they were soaking wet.
The phone service was very spotty, sometimes we could make and receive calls but for a couple days we did not have service at all. The cabin does not have wifi and you cannot use hotspot unless you have service.
There are only 5 plates and only 3 butter knives which can be an issue if you more than 3 people.
There is very little privacy. The 2 main floor bedrooms are partitioned off, they are open at the top and bottom and you can see into both from the lofts.
The windows and tracks need cleaning badly.
The grill is so rusted out it cannot safely be used.
The dogs next door were nice but there is a fellow 3 houses down with a pack of smaller dogs he lets run loose and we were cleaning up after them, the neighbors too. Our dog was very intimidated by them so we kept him on a lead outdoors at all times.
The shoreline was full of algae and weed so it was not safe to get in the water or let the dog near it.
We did catch some nice bass and you can catch small sunnys off the dock.
Upper cormorant is a 856 acres body of water that connects to nelson lake (241 acres) and middle cormorant (360 acres). There is a total of over 1,450 acres of water to fish, explore and enjoy.
