Deep Blue Haven - Natures idyllic and peaceful summertime paradise
Embrace the self-sufficiency of an “off grid” lifestyle and experience a simple life, at a slower pace. Feel rejuvenated by escaping reality … just for a while.
Deep Blue Haven has elevated and sheltered panoramic views overlooking pristine Whangaparapara Harbour, native forest hills, and valleys, across to the historic whaling station, then out to sea.
The comfortable three-story home is an exposed rafter and timber dwelling with a unique warm and homely character and furnishings that capture the homestead and nautical rustic charm.
The top story and main bedroom has two double beds. The floor area is expansive and setup as an artists studio to enjoy the palatial views for relaxation and inspiration.
Lie in bed and admire the International Dark Sky Sanctuary clear night skies through the skylights or get professional stare gazing advice from the star watching section of the monthly barrier bulletin.
The second story has one queen bedroom and main bathroom. The large kitchen and living space features an old fashioned bar setting for entertaining. There’s an authentic old English wood burning stove and cast iron cookware, but also modern kitchen with gas stove and large wok. There are large elevated decks and barbeque area for Alfresco dining.
Early breakfast on the balcony will ensure stunning views as the sun reaches down the valley, feel alive being surrounded by nature.
The lower story has a spiral staircase with two queen bedrooms and is refreshingly cool to sleep in summer.
We have good Vodafone mobile coverage for Hot-spotting, internet and free-view television. Free WiFi up to 4 GByte via iPad Hot-spot (supplied- just ask). High quality beds with mosquito nets, window and door insect screens.
During summer we stay in the adjacent coach house. We are available if required to provide assistance and advice... just ask.
The property has formed steps that wind down through the garden and native bush to the harbour waters edge. It’s then five minutes walk along the road to Great Barrier Lodge with casual Restaurant dining and Bar till late. Walk on further to the sheltered harbour, floating jetty and boat ramp.
Enjoy sailing, snorkeling, spear fishing and scuba diving. Hooked on Barrier Charter sight seeing and fishing trips leave from the wharf. Hire a kayak. Standup paddle boarding in the early morning is very popular. Walk 15 minutes around the rocks and cast your line in. _____________

The property locates on the high platform overlooking down the beautiful water. The house is equipped with Solar electricity, gas range, and running water. Awesome place in Great Barrier Island
Peaceful relaxing stay. Lovely sitting on deck and listening to the Kaka and other bird life.
Handy to multiple walks, but having a car was great to get to other walks and see rest of island. Also closest shops are 15min drive. Lodge no longer open.
Location was great - a good view if you wanted to hang on the deck, just around the corner from a lovely restaurant, bar, and wharf, and 10 minutes walk to start of the Aotea Track.
The house was clean, pretty, fully stocked, and convenient. The owners were lovely and generous. We were more than delighted.

Great property in an isolated part of the beautiful Barrier!
We were a small group looking for a quiet place to relax after an amazing fishing trip. The accommodation is set high up and had amazing views as detailed in the listing.
Unfortunately, we weren’t greeted quite as expected with a warning to not be “fishy” upon arrival with the owner even smelling her hand after shaking mine. We weren’t smelly of fishy and fortunately found it amusing.
We then settled in, cooked dinner and watched a DVD with the sound of nature surrounding us, amazing!
Its important to note that you need to take some cleaning products and be respectful of the water shortage but we managed and for value for money if you are happy to drive Its definitely worth considering.
Also note that the owners live directly behind the house and we had no WiFi for our stay but you can hot spot so managed for those that had to sadly do some work during our break.
Consider the above and reach out to the owner prior to booking if should you have any questions.

We are Superhosts. This guest didn't pay us what he said he would for the additional night stay. Then didn't pay for a new coffee plunger they broke. Assistance was provided by the Platform in these matters. They irresponsibly discarded the broken glass over our balcony, that was then found by guests in a following booking. They left rotting fish on our kwila deck for days, which left maggots and stains. And left fish scales throughout the house. After hearing they would arrive from fishing for many days at sea; I sent an email. Nazareth said she was greeted by Nick at the front door of our coach house and he advised her they were "not fishey at all". Nazareth advised Nick her hands were wet as she was preparing food. We supply an iPad for hot-spotting, and our listing clearly states up to 4Gbyte free. Our worst booking in two years.
Great place, wonderful location for a long weekend get away with friends.
Location provides wonderful views and there are lots of walks near by, including the natural hot pools. Great spot if you are willing to explore the island.
The house is warm and spacious.
Lovely house with fantastic views. Our hosts were very helpful and friendly.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wished we could stay a few more days.
The accommodation was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Just a note to remember that this is an island and power is battery/generator etc so no microwave/hairdryer/toaster.
All good and We will go back again.
Had a great stay with our friends. Location is great. Great set up in the kitchen and nice big lounge with a great view. Good location to some good walks and fishing. Thanks Naz and Stephen

I'm Filipino and have lived in New Zealand for 32 years. My husband and I love our semi-retired life style on beautiful and peaceful Great Barrier Island. We are busy and help out in our very small community. We really enjoy sharing our summer paradise with Bookabach travelers. We meet lots of really friendly people. We raised our family in Auckland but now have the opportunity to live an off-grid lifestyle, enjoying simple pleasures like gardening, fishing, gathering firewood and cooking on a wood stove... its great. We are lucky, and grateful, to be living our dreams.
