River Meadow Camp Cottage is perched on a low bank of the Grand River, an estuary of the Malpeque Bay, and is tucked into a sheltered corner lot where you can stay in your bathing suit all day and basks in the sun from sunrise to sunset.
Under giant birches, River Meadow Camp Cottage has been built out from the bus motor home with the addition of a bedroom with a queen size bed, a living room, a half-bath and a shaded brick patio with lounge chairs facing the river.
There is a small cabin at the back of the main cottage which includes: shower, toilet, sink, washer and dryer as well as a set of bunk beds.
The shaded patio next to the riverbank offers a lovely place to read, snooze or sip a glass of wine, while watching the sunset or the shore birds.
The tide is out most of the day and young children can splash around in bathtub warm water up to their knees and chase minnows and hermit crabs. For those who like to have a refreshing swim, the tide is high in the morning but most people explore the island during the day and visit the National or Provincial Parks for swimming on PEI famous white sand beaches. At the cottage shore shoes (water shoes or old sneakers) are recommended to protect tender feet from the occasional oyster shell. Sometimes there is seaweed (depending on spring storms) in the small cove. We have a boardwalk over this seaweed to take you out to the sand.
The bus kitchen is fully stocked and has an electric stove, dishwasher, fridge, a dinette booth, a day bed and a half bath. The motor home part of the cottage has a ceiling height of 6ft. If you are taller than 5' 10" and you are the chief cook this cottage ... will not suit you ... Also if you do not like camping and hanging around outdoors, or have easily bored teenagers who expect privacy, then this cottage ... is not for your family. The main part of the cottage is of standard building height.
This camp cottage is not fancy (no granite or steel for those who need modern and sleek), but it has everything a young family or a group of friends need for comfort and convenience with the added pleasure of total privacy, lots of lawn space for kids and puppies, no vehicle traffic and the river outside your door. Here you will be immersed in the sights and sounds of nature.
Sleeping areas:
1. Bedroom with a queen size bed.
2. The front room has a single bed. Sometimes the youngest child sleeps on the couch.
3. There is a another single bed up in the bus and there is a sliding door to close this area off at night. The bus bed has access to the half-bath but a bit of duck and cover is necessary to go out the back of the bus. This sleeping area is not suitable for mobility challenged seniors or very tall adults. If these folks sleep in the main bedroom with the queen size bed, they will have a very comfortable stay.
4. Behind the cottage, there is a small cabin with a washer and dryer and a full bath with a shower, sink, and toilet. There is a set of bunk beds in this small cabin where teens (not pre-teens ... they will be too scared to stay out in the cabin by themselves) or young adults can sleep. Teenagers, unless the family enjoys camping, may not be happy spending time at this cottage. Children will LOVE this cottage. Couples enjoying a quiet romantic get-away will also love this cottage.
There is Satellite WiFi service and a 45 in. smart TV with Amazon Prime and Samsung TV. We also offer a selections of movies for the DVD player.
This cottage offers you the outdoor beauty of a campground setting but with the comforts, convenience and and privacy of a cottage. On a daily and weekly basis we make every effort to control the insect and mosquito population with discrete and safe spraying and bug zappers. This camp has a few mosquitos at dusk but there are seldom any around during the day. This camp cottage is registered with the Prince Edward Island Tourist Bureau.

A beautiful gem and great location. We really enjoyed our stay. We would highly recommend this place to our friends. Thank you for sharing your place with us much appreciated. Lesa, Steve & Timmy
Truly on the waterfront with a gorgeous view across the Grand River, we enjoyed a relaxing view. High tide, low tide were all fabulous. Much wildlife kept us entertained. Incredibly quiet location! Conveniently located to explore the western half of Prince Edward Island -- 3 day trips to a variety of provincial parks, beaches, harbors, agriculture, aquaculture & wind farms were a few sights during our travels.
We enjoyed our stay. The ad notes the cottage is in Summerside however it is beyond that, 45 mins to Cavendish. There was only warm water for one person to shower over two days which wasn’t expected but overall, we were happy.
Wonderful little cottage . Everything worked, we barbequed both nights . Bed was very comfortable. Would reccommend to anyone . Lots of room to walk and wade .
we loved the fun/funky place. so creative to build a very comfy living room/ bedroom place attached to a camper. we were welcomed, comfortable, and charmed by the site: grand river with connection to bay. Suzanne is a great host. We love PEI!
Charming little place, very intimate and peaceful with a superb view of the water. There is nothing luxurious but there are plenty of beds, they are comfortable and all the amenities are there. Perfect for families. We really liked it. Beautiful little beach at low tide. All that is missing is a small anti-mosquito shelter to be able to enjoy the terrace in complete tranquility.
We had a wonderful stay at River Meadow Camp Cottage. The pictures and description completely matched reality. We even saw the heron most days!
We have 3 young boys and the cottage suited us perfectly. They loved exploring the beach and playing in the grass. We came in late on the first night and Suzanne was incredibly accommodating.
Thanks Suzanne for the wonderful stay!
The place is absolutely beautiful, the private beach, the cottage, everything was perfect. Watching the sunset near the fire was breath-taking. The cottage is small, but very cute. I would not see a big family staying there since it could get cramped, but it is not beds that are missing! The owner has everything to make your stay comfortable and pleasant (beach accessories were available like boards, noodles, freezbe, and more). We would definetly come back!
A beautiful, relaxing, private place to stay. A cozy patio facing the water which made a great place to watch the early mornimg brealth taking . The sunsets was amazing to see. Lots of comfortable longing chairs to relax in. Great place for bomb fires and telaxing with family. Wonderful walks along the sandy beach while tide was out. Excellant place to go on a canoeing adventure with the grandkids. The host was the most beautiful caring person we have ever encountered. A wonderful place to sit back to enjoy the glorious world of PEI. Thank You for a great experience.

Disappointing! Won't Return and Would Never Recommend
Sunsets and view across the river were beautiful and as advertised it was quiet and private. We were booked for 12 nights but left after 8. INFESTED with black ants and earwigs amongst the numerous other disappointments.
The property was unique. The bed in the main building was very comfortable. I didn't like the shower being in the bunkie and that there was no privacy when entering and exiting the shower. Unfortunately there were many mosquitoes so staying outside at night wasn't possible. The power went off during our stay and we could not find any candles so we drove out to get some.
My Mom and I loved staying at this cottage. We liked the quite and privacy.
It was so nice to just relax and read a book on the deck while looking at a beautiful view. The pups loved being able to run around. We enjoyed walking on the beach looking for shells. The front rooms of the cottage are cute. The master bedroom has a beautiful view. The old motor home part is the kitchen area. It is rustic, but had everything we needed. And it nice to sit there and drink coffee while watching the sun coming up. The other building had a shower, another bathroom, washer/dryer and a set of bunk beds.
We used to camp, so this was a nice step up. Especially to be able to go inside when the mosquitos came out at night :)
Miscouche has a couple of good places to eat right up on route 2 , especially breakfast at the convenient store : )
Suzanne was a very friendly and knowledgeable host.
We definitely want to come back!!

Nous avons apprécié le calme de l'endroit. L'accès aux commodités d'un chalet était parfait.Cependant, les les moustiques piquants étaient très présents.
DIRE Need of Maintenance and Repairs *Watch Your Head!!*
Pros:
Kind, Welcoming Hostess
Clean accommodations
Gorgeous sunset on the river
Cabin part with small livingroom and master bedroom is nice
Quiet location
Pet Friendly
Cons:
Very uncomfortable bed in Master Bedroom (both nights woke up achy in the middle of the night, unable to get comfortable/back to sleep. Achy the next day.)
Extremely low clearance to get into the bus (5 foot opening, max) and to the bathroom (4 foot opening - maybe). I'm 5'9" and needed to bend over at a 90 degree angle to get to the bathroom and could still fell the top frame rub against my back. Getting to the bathroom from the bedroom at 2 AM was almost stressful. ("Watch your head... What your head...")
The top of my head also bumped the bus' ceiling in some places.
Shingling nails were pointing down at my head (no proper ceiling) in one area.
Very narrow walkway in kitchen. No more than 2 feet across. No idea how a couple or a family would get around eachother.
No microwave to warm up leftovers.
Sunroom : Uneven, cracked, broken tiles; Plastic sheeting for a roof; Door latch that requires considerable force to open. Spilled my dinner trying to open it. No way a small child could open it.
Futon mattress on couch has lots of holes and a paint stain.
Shed beside bus with bunk beds and other bathroom: Screen door stays wide open; 2 inch gap under main door where bugs can crawl in; water smelled VERY strongly (showered at the next place)
Firepit: Chairs with no cushions, just metal bars across them
Both picnic tables: paint gone, pieces of wood missing
River: Lots of seaweed. Despite 36 degree heat, neighbours' horses only ones in the river.
This property has TONS of potential. With some investment and TLC, it could be great.
I was really looking forward to staying here, but left feeling disappointed and frustrated.
Between the two sleepless nights due to an old? mattress and the constant need to be hunched over, my stay here was very uncomfortable.
For this reason, along with the serious risk of repeatedly hitting their head, I would not recommend these accommodations to family and/or friends.
Ps If you do choose to stay here:
1) The first house you see when you drive onto the property is Suzanne's house. (I thought Google Maps had sent me to the wrong location.) Keep driving. The Bus-Cabin is further down.
2) These accommodations are out in a rural area, so I'm stating the obvious here: bring bug spray. There are mosquitoes and horse flies.
Very rustic, exceptional sunsets, glorified camping
Suzanne, the owner, was very accommodating and super friendly, a true islander, which was very heartwarming. Nice beach and lots of birds to photograph. Lots of privacy. The cottage has everything you need, linen, towels, kitchen ware, etc. If you like rustic, camp like experience, this is the place to go. The view is incredible but we couldn’t swim because the weather was not for swimming. If you don’t mind bugs, it’s fine. It wasn’t for us. The shower is in the outhouse and it wasn't accommodating due to the cold weather. I guess we chose the wrong time of the year to visit. It is a pretty and private location where we were able to let our dog loose without a leash.
The pictures of the beach are not quite accurate as there is no sand and is unusable due to at least a foot of seaweed covering the entire area. However the sunset views as incredible.
