About this property
Country retreat with stunning views, spectacular pool, unparalleled privacy!
Now taking inquiries for 2024 summer rentals. Three night minimum available in June (calendar reflects availability); July 1-31 (monthly only) and/or Aug 1 - 31 (monthly only).
Our 2,500sf home has stunning views, privacy, and plenty of room to run and a gorgeous large pool for fun in the sun!
The house includes four bedrooms to sleep 8 guests, multiple spaces to set up a home office and 10 acres of very private yard and fields to enjoy the outdoors.
Expansive views from atop Skiff Mountain are breathtaking from sunrise to sunset with night skies to continue to enjoy “nature’s television” through all seasons.
Our Yankee Barn home, built by our parents in 1971, sits on the highest meadow of the Tobin family farm in Kent, CT overlooking working hay fields and hilltop views for miles.
Minutes to train stations for easy access to NYC, our home is also close to Kent School, Marvelwood School, South Kent School, Mohawk Ski Area, the Appalachian trail, downtown Kent and MUCH more. “The mountain”, as longtime residents call it, is the perfect place to sit and relax or to call home while exploring the southern Berkshire hills and Litchfield County.
The best part of staying at the House on High Meadow is in getting here and STAYING here! Get the groceries, hit the package store (that's New Englander for liquor store) if that's your thing, grab a good book (the summer-long library sale in town is a great source), leave your worries at the foot of the mountain and come prepared to RELAX in your own cocoon of comfort and privacy!
With 3+ acres of open lawn (plus many acres of hay fields) for playing, running, kite-flying etc, a basketball half-court, hammock, and covered deck - you've got plenty of recreational options! The pool has views for miles. Imagine floating and watching fireworks on July 4th from multiple towns.
Sightseeing, antiquing, museums, art galleries, and so much more are also available when you want to leave the mountain and explore the area!
For the outdoor enthusiasts:
- The Housatonic River (10 minutes away in two directions) offers great fishing, canoeing, kayaking and floating.
- Kent Falls State Park (15 minutes away) is scenic and has a lovely hike along the waterfalls' edge.
- Macedonia State Park (10 minutes away) offers beautiful trails for hiking and, our favorite as kids, playing in the brook to keep cool.
- Lake Waramaug State Park (~30 minutes away) has a beach and opportunities for water sports.
- Mohawk Mountain Ski Area (15 - 25 minutes away depending on weather) has the best learn-to-ski, intermediate, and family skiing around!
- Sharon Audubon (10 minutes away) is a great family activity to learn about our local flora and fauna.
In rural Connecticut, it's impossible to list all of the options but we grew up here so just ask and we will point you in the right direction!

About the host
Hosted by Polly Tobin Goddard

The farm and mountain has been our family home (or at least home base) for many generations! The farm down the hill is where our grandfather's family was raised and we are surrounded on all sides by families who have called the mountain home for many decades. Our dad, who was a prominent life-long figure in Kent (business owner, First Selectman, Fire Chief etc), lived on the mountain for nearly 50 years. Often regarded as "the life of the party", Dad regularly threw his doors open welcoming family, friends, friends of friends, and sometimes strangers into his home. He loved to have people enjoy the farm so we are carrying on this tradition now that he's gone.
I am a Professional Development Coach & Consultant and my work has me traveling a good deal. I live on Cape Cod year-round with my family and come to Kent regularly. I manage the administrative side of rent High Meadow Farm. Local family members handle most of the onsite logistics. Other local siblings and family members come and go to operate and maintain the farm but all give our guests the space they need to relax and enjoy.

Why they chose this property
Our parents built the house on the highest meadow in Kent of the then-Tobin Brothers Farm in 1971. The main farm (which you can see from the house) was a small dairy farm which operated until the 1990s. We continue to hay portions of the farm still today though we no longer have any animals. Tobins have lived on Skiff Mountain since the 1800's.
This property is owned and operated by three sisters of the Tobin family and we take pride in welcoming guests who want to be treated like part of our extended family. We are a family of hard-workers who carry on the family tradition of welcoming one and all.

What makes this property unique
The view. The view. The view. Whenever people come visit for the first (second, third... heck, I grew up there and I still do it!) time they are in complete awe over the absolutely spectacular view from nearly every room in the house and the deck and yard. It's just magnificent and really hard to beat in Kent!
The peace and quiet! Sit on the deck in the evening and listen to peepers, not traffic! Enjoy your coffee with the morning upswell of birdsong as the sun rises over the hilltops. Hear the call of owls, coyotes, and the occasional chatter of raccoons. Watch the wild turkeys and deer graze in the hay fields. We call this "Nature's television" because you'd be surprised at how many hours can go by as you watch the clouds shift and roll across the sky or become mesmerized by the hay swaying in the breeze.
High Meadow Farm is situated so that it's very private in a rural area so you can just relax, tune out the hustle bustle, and enjoy having space all to yourself!
