About this property

Enchanting & rustic & unique adorned local artwork throughout. 200 specials!

All rates are automated including the special rate.

This unique and eclectic and rustic home has many of the owners paintings and carved and painted furniture showcased throughout the home, as well as many local artists paintings, artwork, and antiques gracing the home. It also features an expansive entertaining deck to enjoy the tall pines. There's a fenced back yard for Fido.

This visually enchanting Artist's Chalet is a perfect Flagstaff retreat. The home is located in Kachina Village in a quiet cul-de-sac with 8 other homes, and 8 miles from historic downtown Flagstaff, 5 miles from west Flagstaff and 23 miles from Snowbowl skiing.

Relax on the deck in a swinging chair, or enjoy the outdoor firepit. Firepit may not be available in winter or during fire restrictions. Upstairs skylights and lots of windows provide plenty of day light and an evening star filled view.

An outdoor paradise, is surrounded by amazing hiking trails, excellent cross country skiing, world class mountain biking, and canyoneering. Just minutes from historic downtown Flagstaff, you can find native culture, fine arts and great restaurants and epic winter sports activities at the Arizona Snowbowl and Flagstaff Nordic center. Great adventures and memories are just a short trip in your car! The red rocks of Sedona, Monument Valley, Wupatki National Monument, Painted Desert, the Arizona wine country, kayaking on the Verde river, bumping along dirt roads in the Arizona back country while discovering wildlife, alpine lakes and high desert vistas, and of course, the epic views of the Grand Canyon!

The Artist's Chalet is dog friendly with approval of the property manager. The home has a fenced in back yard that many a critter has played in. Please note that forest is a wonderful place for dogs to explore but don't under-estimate the vastness of this wilderness section. Miles and miles of forest, canyons and steep cliffs offer opportunities for adventure but easy for a critter to get lost (and you too!).

Poor shower arrangement upstairs. No tissues to blow your nose, Yard was unkept. Deck stairs are unsafe off front porch. Poor electrical outlets. Basically no TV when all you offer is Netflix’s. They should get out of the hospitality business.

The house is spacious, plenty of parking, and quiet neighbors. No air-conditioning but that’s not a real issue in Flagstaff. With the windows open at night you can hear the traffic on interstate 17.The beds were so-so. Too soft and they made noises when you moved around. The shower upstairs is a makeshift affair, with plastic curtains hung around the bathtub - we couldn’t shower without the plastic sheets coming into contact with us. We did not make any use of the kitchen or outside area since we were at my sister’s all day long

Excellent Stay at Artist’s Chalet

This was the perfect property for a Thanksgiving family reunion. The cabin was warm, cozy, and comfortable. It was very convenient to the Grand Canyon and Sedona. Communication with the property manager was wonderful, and he was extremely accommodating to our needs. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. I highly recommend this unique and comfortable property.

Artsy

This home was amply large for our family of 6 with each of the teens getting their own bedroom. It was well furnished and had all of the needed amenities. The only drawback was no coffee pot, only a Keurig. The upstairs bathroom required attention as it had a clawfoot tub and a surround shower curtain. Be careful of possible water on the floor.Overall, this property was quiet and comfortable.

Cute pet friendly house.

Cute house, but neighbors were a bit too close. We knew there was no air conditioning, but unfortunately picked an unprecedented heat wave to go to flagstaff. First floor stayed cool enough, but upstairs was truly hot. Location was perfect for all sightseeing. All in all, it was an enjoyable stay.

Great stay in Flagstaff

Before I even talk about the property let me say that the Property manager, Matt. Was great to work with. We had a last minute change of plans and he replied quickly and was flexible with us. The cabin was great! Very cozy and spacious. It was stocked with all necessities for our stay. The front yard was beautiful with a porch swing and fire pit. We brought 2 small dogs and we loved the fenced yard for them to play in. It was about a 30 min drive to snowbowl.

Flagstaff family trip 2022

The process to rent this property was quite simple and easy. All the information needed is available in the description of the cabin. The owners of this property promptly responded to any questions or concerns I had and the directions to find the place where very helpful. We had to use the alternate route detailed in the description as there was quite a bit of snow and ice on a very steep road. We managed to use the alternate route and did not have any trouble the home was very spacious and extremely comfortable. I will definitely be using this property again in the future. The memories created here are priceless. Very grateful for the opportunity to stay at this beautiful property.

Excellent retreat at this pretty home.

There was plenty of room for us to sleep. The wood inside and out of the home was beautiful. Excellent shower downstairs! Matt, the property owner was told by the housekeeper that a firestick not work correctly. He had it fixed asap, the next day. I told him of a light being out and that wasn’t necessary to replace, we just wanted him to be aware. He replaced that right away as well. Matt was always very quick to respond to messages. Nice, quiet neighborhood. We also enjoyed all of the windows/glass sliders that allowed us to look out very easily.

Family review

The property was amazing... The property manager Matt Nelson was less than helpful. Some of the descriptions about the amenities were quite vague. And when question and asked for help from Matt was treated rather poorly. So if you are traveling with elderly or children make sure to ask many questions regarding the property. He did not even know the proper check in time and were told we could not check in to home for an hour after posted check in 3 pm. No key in box so he had to come let us in and were told that the trash binds were full and to keep our family's trash in the house. There was no wine to welcome us as advertised. The driveway was plowed while we were there which was helpful. But we were responsible for putting out the garbage can full of trash that were not our, which the trucks never came and we sat with our 4 days worth of trash in the house.

About the host

Hosted by Matt Nelson

Host profile image
I am an artist, outdoor enthusiast and a social worker! This house has been such an extension of all these things.
I've traveled around the world and have had the pleasure of staying in family homes, I'm so happy and to be able to offer my home to you!

Why they chose this property

My former wife and I fell in love with this home in the forest back in 96. I made my name as both an artist and a social worker. The Grandon Art gallery was a fixture of Flagstaff for many years and fostered acclaimed artists of the region. Many of these artists, as well as my own work hang on the walls of the House. The original drive way was in the front and there where no plants other than the pines! This is the first year that the apple tree bore fruit!

What makes this property unique

The adventure starts from the front porch! Whether you are interested in a meandering hike along a seasonal stream, exploring remote canyons, discovering a hidden waterfall, or canyoneering with ropes and narrow chilly slot canyon swims, you can get there, without starting your car. From the front porch Iv'e seen coyote, fox, elk, bear, porcupine and javalina that have snuffled in the flowers! In the winter time, the sledding hills are spectacular for kids, plus cross country skiing or snowshoeing gives you access to a silent wilderness. The mountain biking is outrageous! Tremendous trails for all levels.
Flagstaff is such a charming mountain town with a vibrant arts, dining and music scene. You might find yourself enjoying great bluegrass music sitting outdoors on the patio of Flag Brewing Company chatting with local artists or river guides reliving the epic run at Hance rapid or lava falls in the Grand Canyon. You will fall in love with this mountain town!
