Please note that there are 20 stair steps to come up to our guest apartment and the neighborhood is hilly - both provide great exercise!
We live upstairs and work from home, so we are available if needed to answer questions, or to give you advice on places to eat and visit. Text messaging is best for a quick response!
Our neighborhood is essentially a single-family-home hilly cul-de-sac, so it’s very private and safe. It is great for walking, with good lighting and sidewalks, beautiful landscaped yards and views of lake and mountains along the way. You will see all different styles of houses, from early 1920’s to Modern, from middle class family homes to waterfront mansions.
There are a lot of excellent dining options in Northeast Seattle and University Village, and there are several parks and outdoor nature areas nearby.
We are just a short walk to the Laurelhurst Park, which has a round 1.2 mile loop trail walk, tennis courts, playground, sports fields, beautiful mature trees and Community Center; Union Bay Nature Area which has several trails with views of Lake Washington and great bird and possibly animal viewing; and the Yesler Swamp with its recently constructed boardwalk to explore a marshy area where birds and beavers live.
There is plenty of free, unmetered street parking, so having your own car is a good option. In addition, there are several buses nearby. However, please note that the neighborhood is quite hilly and walking to and from the bus stops tends to be up and down hills.
We are about 0.5 miles from Children’s Hospital and it’s an easy flat 10 minute walk.
Walking or Uber or Lyft might be good options to the UW Husky Stadium and the Light Rail station which can take you further - to Downtown, International District or the airport. There are two buses just two blocks away which you can take to the U District and it's Light Rail station in less than 5 minutes. Uber Jump and Lime Bikes with electric assists are parked throughout the neighborhood.
You can drive to Downtown Seattle in about 20 minutes, depending on the traffic (unless it’s rush hour).

About the host
Hosted by Katya Coachman
Katya and Lee have been hosting our 1926 Laurelhurst house lower level apartment for 6 years. We have recently added two beautiful brand new lower level apartments in our 1947 family MCM house in Montlake/Arboretum. We love hosting and running this small family-owned business. Getting super positive feedback from our guests is very rewarding!
Why they chose this property
Laurelhurst is one of Seattle's most upscale single-family-homes neighborhoods and is conveniently close to everything Seattle has to offer, yet it is it's own world - it's not a pass-through neighborhood, but more of a cul-de-sac. There are beautiful street views of Capitol and Queen Anne hills, Space Needle, Lake Washington, Union Bay, UW Stadium, University District, Cascades and Olympics mountains, gorgeous homes and gardens, and peaceful nature including a resident eagle nest. We love it for its convenience and walking opportunities - it's safe, well-lit, has sidewalks, only very light neighborhood traffic and no stoplights. It's also very hilly which offers great exercise options!
What makes this property unique
Our house is situated on a wonderful street of upscale single family homes just two blocks from the famed Seattle Children's Hospital and Medical Center. You'll enjoy staying in a completely private apartment in the lower level of our family home with a large private deck. Laurelhurst offers multiple access points to Lake Washington and you're just 5 minutes drive from Magnuson Park and UW.
