About this property
A Peaceful Cottage Near Viroqua; Nearby Fly Fishing and Beautiful Views
Located on a beautiful ridge top at the end of a paved dead end road, Meadowlark Ridge is just six miles west of Viroqua, Wisconsin. The Garden Cottage is located next to the owner's home, yet it is private and quiet, with beautiful perennial gardens, fruit trees and veggie gardens around the house and cottage. The landscape supports abundant wildlife including numerous colorful songbirds, deer, and wild turkeys.
You'll find everything you need for a comfortable stay in this modern cottage that's all on one level - quality linens & towels; a kitchen with stove, microwave/convection oven and refrigerator; coffee/tea; toaster; and soaps and lotions. We have high-speed fiber optic internet/Wi-Fi and have good cell phone reception. The cottage has a flat-screen TV with Roku, a Blu-ray player and a selection of movies. Our guests love the very comfortable king-sized bed with linens, blankets, and a heated mattress pad. There is a washer and dryer in the kitchen area. The cottage is heated/air conditioned and has a large walk-in tile shower in the full bath. There is a Weber gas grill on the covered porch.
With 360 degree views of the skyline and set between two wooded valleys, you will love the quiet location, songbirds, starry skies and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Our cropland is certified organic, and all neighboring cropland is farmed organically as well.
Feel free to roam around our property and enjoy the views and extensive perennial and vegetable gardens.
There are great hiking trails, world-class trout fishing and two wineries within just a few miles of the cottage. We are in the Bad Axe watershed, not far from the north and south forks of the Bad Axe River and fly fishing in Springville Creek, and just a short drive to Timber and Spring Coulee trout streams. There is a large Amish community a few miles west of us with shops open to the public. Viroqua has a number of interesting places to eat or shop, and many local activities and events.
The cottage is licensed with the State of Wisconsin. Sorry but we have a no-pet policy. The cottage is perfect for two adults; we cannot accept guests under 18 years old. Guests may stay from 2 to 7 nights.

About the host
Hosted by Wayne Ott
For over 15 years, Wayne & Sherrie traveled to the Viroqua area for their spring and fall camping and fishing trips. When Sherrie retired in 2014, they moved to Viroqua and are happy to be living in such a beautiful and friendly area. Before the move, Wayne worked as a cartographer with the US Geological Service and Sherrie with the USDA as a resource conservationist, working with farmers and private landowners on conservation practices, wetland restoration, prairie establishment and supporting the Conservation Reserve Program's wildlife enhancement practices.
Why they chose this property
Vernon County has so much to offer, including winding roads through beautiful hills and valleys, world-class trout streams, large open areas for hiking like the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, and a large organic and Amish communities that offer their unique products. The Kickapoo River near Ontario offers scenic canoeing and kayaking, and there are several bike trails including the Elroy-Sparta and La Crosse River trail within easy driving. Some of our visitors head to the nearby Mississippi River to pan fish. Birdwatchers can enjoy bald eagles and a host of migratory birds as they travel along the big river. Our property is home to numerous songbirds including Eastern Meadowlarks, Northern Orioles, Bluebirds, Red Headed Woodpeckers, Kestrels, Hummingbirds as well as wild turkeys, deer, owls and pheasants. Viroqua is a friendly community with interesting small shops and a couple of restaurants serving locally-sourced food. We are just a few miles from two wineries with tasting rooms.

We try to be very responsive to our guests, and we add amenities whenever our guests request something. Whenever possible we use unscented soaps and cleaning materials.

The views from the ridge top are incredible; enjoy the big skies, sun and moon rises, stunning clouds and frequent rainbows. The inside of the cottage has a calming decor with soft colors and high quality linens and towels.
