-ACTIVITIES/ATTRACTIONS-
Visitors come to the High Desert for its unique landscape, culture, and recreational opportunities, as well as for the weather - hot and dry summers and mild winters at our high altitude. Joshua Tree and the communities surrounding the Joshua Tree National Park include Flamingo Heights, Pioneertown, Morongo Valley, Yucca Valley, and Landers. You’ll be close to all the action at Trails End Modern. Some of our favorite options available to you:

–Joshua Tree National Park: 800,000 acres of mystical beauty - Joshua Tree National Park is one of the world’s most incredible natural desert treasures. Sweeping, grand in scale and populated by granite monoliths and voluptuous rock and boulder formations. This quiet land, conducive to meditation and roaming, was carved by extremes in climate - wind, rain and an ever-present, relentless sun. Diverse forms of plant life are found everywhere, but none as unique or prevalent as the park’s namesake: the Joshua tree, standing majestically across the vast topography.

–Pioneertown: Step back in time to thus rustic Old West-style village. Wander through the historic buildings, visit unique shops, catch a live music performance at Pappy & Harriets, and experience the Wild West charm.

-The Integratron: New age-y healing destination with a sound bath, originally designed by ufologist George Van Tassel with the goal of reversing the aging process.

The Neighborhood:
Pipes Canyon is one of the most sought-after locations in the High Desert. It’s close to everything – and yet very much set apart with next to no light or noise pollution. The area is surrounded by dramatic flat-top lava buttes, towering and weathered boulders, and an abundance of Joshua trees.

Pipes Canyon is immediately adjacent to the Sand to Snow National Monument as well as the Pioneertown Mountains Preserve, both offering endless hiking and exploring opportunities, and the West Entrance of Joshua Tree National Park is about 30 minutes away by car.

Although you may be tempted to spend your whole trip exploring Pipes Canyon, many more area highlights are accessible within a short drive:
• Pioneertown (10-minute drive) - Put on your ten-gallon hat and stroll down Mane Street of this Wild West-inspired town, also known for Pappy & Harriet’s, a notable restaurant and venue.
• Yucca Valley (20-minute drive) - Convenient stop for chain stores and local eateries, like Carla's Route 62 Diner and C & S Coffee Shop
• Joshua Tree Village (20-minute drive) - Quirky strip of boutiques and restaurants, including Coyote Corner, Space Cowboy Books, and the rustic Joshua Tree Saloon
• Noah Purifoy Outdoor Desert Art Museum (20-minute drive) - As far from a stuffy gallery as you can imagine, this outdoor sculpture garden contains a unique collection of folk-art.
• The Integratron (20-minute drive) - New age-y healing destination with a sound bath, originally designed by ufologist George Van Tassel with the goal of reversing the aging process.
• Palm Springs (45-minute drive) - Artsy town known for vintage shopping, art galleries, and the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway.
• Mt. San Jacinto State Park (90-minute drive) - Expansive, hilly landscape with foot and horseback trails surrounding 10,834-foot Mount San Jacinto.

Of course, let’s not forget about the essentials. Everything you need is within about 15 minutes by car:
• Closest supermarket: Vons
• Closest liquor store: Yucca Valley Liquor
• Closest pharmacy: Rite Aid Pharmacy
• Closest bank: Wells Fargo Bank
• Closest gas station: Sinclair

Getting Around:
While we are off a paved road, many roads in the High Desert are dirt, so please take it slow. While a car is required to get around, a four wheel drive car is not, but note that roads will often have ruts, particularly after a rain.

Interaction with Guests:
Our property manager, Homestead Modern, is local and has staff available at all times.

Dec. 2023. No Jacuzzi
The house was fine but the Jacuzzi was broken and we were really looking forward to using it after our hikes. The company was not very responsive when we asked if they could fix it.

Secluded home with a gorgeous backdrop and a view of the stars.
My husband and I absolutely enjoyed our stay here. The kitchen was the highlight of the home. Mostly because we have never stayed anywhere before that has provided everything you need to cook and bake. The couch was super comfy and the games were a lot of fun. The beds and pillows were amazing and the bathrooms were nice and spacious. The hot tub is well taken care of and gave us a much needed relaxing soak after hiking at Joshua Tree. My husband said it was the best place to stay to celebrate his birthday. Very secluded, super quiet, and just an excellent place to unwind, relax, and gaze at the stars.

Desert Haven
My wife and I wanted to spend a few days away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, and this was the perfect spot. tucked back off the road, with the nearest neighbor some distance away, this place was great. The first impression is that the home is a little Spartan, but then you realize that it really does have everything needed to make the stay enjoyable. The first night was cool and windy but the fire pit was an excellent antidote for that. Then spent an entire day without leaving the property, just reading, relaxing, getting some sun, making use of the well supplied kitchen, and taking advantage of the library of games and puzzles. After a day of hiking in Joshua Tree National Park (not very far away), the hot tub was just what the doctor ordered. The outdoor shower (yes, there's one inside too...) provides an expansive view of the desert, stretching away in the distance. And the patio cover with the constellation "Leo" built into the shade cover was intriguing, to say the least. all in all, a very nice place. would definitely consider going back.

Relaxing weekend getaway
This property had everything we needed for a relaxing weekend getaway. Joshua Tree National park is less than half an hour away where we did a couple of beautiful hikes, we also enjoyed watching the climbers test their skills on the world class bouldering in the park. After a nice shower, we had a wonderful dinner courtesy of a well stocked kitchen and the outdoor grill, while watching the wonderful sunset. Night time is very quiet and we thoroughly enjoyed stargazing by the fire pit and a soak in the hot tub. The owner and property management company were very responsive, we had a small issue with the hot tub and they sent someone out to check it on Saturday. Overall a wonderful stay would definitely stay again
