The property is horrible. All the pictures displayed are so tight you cannot get a full perspective of the space. It is dated, but old shouldn’t mean poorly constructed. The bathtub and shower was filthy. There were large dried pieces of unclean toilet paper and black mold in the toilet brush. No towels upon arrival only to have them dropped off the day after I arrived while I was not present. There was a hole in the floor. At the price point I didn’t expect luxury, but it was unlivable. I left after 2 days. Taking the loss on the remaining 5.
We could not check-in due to not having the key code information and having no way of contacting the host after several attempts. Since we were unable to stay at the payed rental, vrbo got us a hotel which was rundown and horrible conditions. The next day we finally got a message back at 2 am about how to check in. We arrived the next day, and the home reminded me of a grandmother's house, which was okay, but the home came with an odor out of this world. The place had only four towels but allows 8 Guests and no washcloths. The place needed to be cleaned the house did not have much upkeep. Parking was difficult, if you have multiple cars it may be easier for you to park on the street.
We got this house because it was the only thing we could find that was affordable in Durham for a family my size. It had a terrible mildew/sulfur smell that hit you as soon as you walked in the door. There were paper towels to wipe your hands in the bathroom but no trash cans. We really were unsure if the sheets were clean. There were stains all over the walls that looked liked body fluid. My mom feel down the stairs because they were unsteady and deep. We’d brought dessert home but there were 0 forks or spoons but a dozen knives. Maybe they were to fight off anyone who came to the door. Which someone did at 8am Sunday as we were trying to leave. It was the next guest. Honestly, I want some money back because it was just gross, sparse, and in a horrible neighborhood. Definitely will not stay here again.
Hanging out on the front porch with family was very enjoyable.

Would recommend for lower budget house
Cedrick was very good at communicating. The house took an extra hour and a half to be ready but he was kind and apologetic. Location was nice, less than 10 minutes from the Bulls stadium. The house wasn't in great shape, but it was clean enough and for the price felt appropriate. Four guys stayed here, one in each bedroom and it was a large space. The neighborhood wasn't as bad as other reviews make it seem, but I wouldn't suggest this place to families with small children. Overall, I was pleased with what we paid for, and appreciate Cedrick for working with us. We stayed because we were in town for business and would likely stay again if we end up back in Durham.
Easy check in, great price, large bedrooms.
Read other reviews. Not the best neighborhood but I had no issues. House would benefit from a deep cleaning and decor.

Weekend stay
The house was not the cleanest but it provided everything we needed for the stay. The A/C worked pretty good. The neighborhood isn’t the best neighborhood but we didn’t have any issues.
The house was exactly as advertised. It was clean and spacious. Definitely an older home but it had a lot of charm and character. Only complaint is that the neighborhood is a little loud at night and the driveway is narrow. Will definitely book again.

It was alright
Quite an old home, with lots of cover-up paint and plaster patches. Some updates needed, mostly some that wouldn’t take much effort. For instance, no ottoman in the living room would be better than a grossly stained one.
Cleanliness wise, the fridge was sus. Something strange was going on under the kitchen sink. Quite a few dust bunnies hopping around in the living room. And again….that strange ottoman... *shudders*
Very spacious. HVAC cooled and heated like a boss. The hard floors were really clean. Beds were ok-ish. Creaky.
Meh, it was ok.

Wouldn't recommend
Cedric allowed my family to check-in early by paying the fee for the day. We had an emergency and needed a same day rental after 5pm. when we arrived at the property the neighborhood is in the lower in of town. I did not read previous reviews before reserving due to needing a place right away. Had I read the reviews I would have known to select a different place. The inside of the unit does have a lot of potential, renovations need to be done and better cleaning service. Cedric needed to come in the unit during our stay and spray for bugs. When I notified Cedric about the problems during our stay he didn't have much to say besides sorry.
Everything was as advertised. This is my second time staying here and it was better than the first!!

Did not feel safe
The house was clean and spacious but was old and dated. We booked this house because of the proximity to Duke. My biggest concern with the property was the location. There appeared to be abandoned houses on the same street a couple of blocks away. My son who slept in the front bedroom heard gunshots in the middle of the night. The Ring doorbell rang at around 630-7 am one morning and we looked out the window and did not see anyone there.
Two hours before check in a message was sent saying that there had been a mistake, they canceled the reservation on us. We were already in the city. We were left scrambling for a place to stay for our conference.

Clean but dated
The house was clean, but very dated with mismatched decor. Lots of potential though. The bedrooms were large. It's an older house that could use updating but it was fine for our short stay. The house was in a very run down area of town. Several boarded up homes as you make the turn onto the street. The house right next door had very loud music 2 of the nights & had lots of cars coming & going. There were not enough towels, but we messaged the owner & he did bring more for us. He was very responsive to our request. The microwave is touchy - the front glass panel kept wanting to fall out & the bottom of the handle had been hot glued back on, but kept coming detached. The kitchen is small - small table with 4 chairs, so no way for all of us to have dinner together, but we went out to eat anyway. Again, the owner was very responsive & accommodating. I just wish I knew the location/ area of town before booking, so that is why I'm sharing this here.

Okay stay
The property was ok. There were areas that were very dusty and hadn’t been cleaned in a while, dirty pot under the sink and the main tub was dirty. There was no tissue in the master suite bathroom. The neighborhood was a bit scary with heavy drug activity. We enjoyed the grill the owner provided and the outside seating area.
Property was mostly as described and about what you would expect for the price... it is a old building with old furniture, but plenty of space and all the necessary amenities. We ended up getting a hotel however, because there were so many flies in the master bed and bathroom.
The place was in a good location and not to far from where I wanted to visit! Would definitely stay here again

Good Enough
It didn't start well. I had reserved the house months ago for a Friday-Sunday. A week before the trip I decided to go a day earlier. I messaged the owner and asked if Thursday was open. He said it was. So, through VRBO, I submitted an extension request for my stay. No answer for a week. The day before I was leaving I messaged the owner to ask about keys/codes to enter the home. I was told I "would get them around 2ish on my arrival date." I asked which date, the new extended date, or the original date. It was the original date. I messaged and asked why my extension was denied, and never got a reply. So, I had to scramble for a much more expensive hotel room. Great start to the trip.
If you are looking for a Pinterest/Etsy VRBO, this ain't it. It is an old house with old walls, old door frames, and mismatched faucet handles. I am 6'3" tall, and the light in the middle of my bedroom hung down to about 5'11", so I hit my head on it often. There were coffee cups, but no coffee maker. There were also no spoons, forks, or any other silverware. If you are a big person, the showers are too small and regardless of your size you should probably bring your own toilet paper.
There is a separate review that mentions finding needles, a drive-by, and other stuff, and the area coming into the block of the house would indicate that could occur...
However, the block where the house sits was nice and neiborhoodly. We sat on the porch every evening and every morning, and its was quiet and peaceful. The porch is large and great for relaxing. The house was clean. The beds were comfortable. The house at night was amazingly quiet. We couldn't even hear each other milling about if we were in a bedroom. There were clean towels on each bed.
We were in Durham for an event, so we were out all day, meaning we pretty much only used the house as a place to sleep and shower. For that, it did its job comfortably. I probably would not stay in this house again, but it was good enough this time.

Quaint home
This home is quaint and historic. Area is a bit rough as we found syringes on the sidewalk and heard gunshots. Not fireworks…to top it off there was a drive by shooting.

Christmas Stay
Overall, the property fit our needs for one night. The rooms were clean and check-in ready. For it being a cold December night, we could have used more blankets/comforters besides the one provided in each room. The kitchen light was not working during our stay. The heating system was also not working. Temperatures in the house plummeted from 62 to 58 degrees overnight. The property manager is pleasant but it has been difficult coming to a conclusion about the heating unit, which he claims was working the night of our stay. The property manager is also difficult to get in touch with it and I have had to reach out to VRBO to try and communicate with him. I'd factor in all of these issues prior to booking this property.
