About this property
A beautifully situated Country House overlooking and with access to Lough Corrib
The property is a single storey country house in 9 acres of garden and woodland. It stands at the foot of Mount Gable looking south over the beautiful Lough Corrib, with its own foreshore. A mountain stream flows at either side of the gardens. The house has recently been renovated, and has two large bedrooms with King size beds, each with an ensuite shower room, one double bedroom, one twin room and a ‘bunk’ room each with a refitted bathroom nearby. There is also a play room which doubles as a childrens bedroom with several beds. The house has a new and substantial kitchen with a large dining area and a table to seat up to 12 people. There is also a large sun room/conservatory, a play room (which also has fold out beds) and a sitting room. It is a large comfortable holiday house with real character and some history and is ideal for a large family or even two families to enjoy at any time of the year. It is ideally situated for fishing, and is an excellent base for those who wish to enjoy the beautiful lakes mountains and coastline of the West of Ireland. At the same time the grounds are fantastic for adventurous children who want to explore, build dens and make campfires.

Beautiful area, house was situated on the shore of Lough Corrib. Great central location for exploring this part of Ireland. There were 8 of us and there was plenty of room to enjoy each other’s company and our own!
Had a great stay perfect for a family gathering thank you

Carrick House
Overall good score, house was dirty enough to be cozy… the photo’s were misleading as it was not lakeside but at the other side of the street and the acces to the lake was not possible as mentioned
This place was absolutely amazing. The pictures and description don’t do it justice. Stayed with my adult children, and would absolutely have another reunion here. It’s a bit far out, but the peace and quiet are well worth the drive to other attractions
Very comfortable family home with plenty of room for 11 of us. Located not far from several villages. Plenty to visit nearby as well as further afield. Beautiful countryside, walks with stunning views over the Lough.
The pictures of Carrick House do not do it justice! It is so beautiful. The house is long and the rooms are spread out. This works nicely when you have early sleepers and late sleepers. We weren’t disturbed by others at all. If you’re looking for modern features, this is not your house. It is a quaint country home in a beautiful setting! Carrick House did not disappoint and we would love to return here. Thank you to Brid and the Dunne family for a wonderful stay!❤️
A renouveler.
Leichter Geruch. Allerdings entschädigt, die tolle Küche! Es liegt direkt am See. Wir würden wieder dort hingehen.
We were a group of 13 people (6 adults and 7 teenagers). The house is so comfortable and extensive that everyone could hang out together or withdraw to their own quiet corner. The kitchen is amazing with space for all to sit down together. Everything stated online was available and so much more. The grounds of the house are idyllic with a view of the beautiful Lough Corrib. It was the perfect location for day trips all around Galway and neighbouring counties / from the Cliffs of Moher to Westport. I can recommend this holiday home without any doubt to people interested in a home away from home.

Absolutely superb house with everything possible provided.
This would have to be the best house we have stayed in over the years - nine of us ages 19 - 94! Lounge/sun room/kitchen so spacious and comfortable. Kitchen has everything you could want and more for cooking for a big group. Heating when needed (mid September) worked instantly and hot water supply excellent. Bedrooms worked well with plenty of extra bedding possible. The house has lots of character and the location is great for access to superb countryside. Local walks and villages for the less active and strenuous ones in the Twelve Bens and Maumturks for the more energetic. Nial's instructions and communications were prompt and extremely helpful. Highly recommended and hope to be back one day. Thank you.

Great location for visiting Connemara
It's a good spot. There were only three of us so lots of room. A great kitchen, lots of spots to sit and read and easy drives to Clifden, Kylemore Abbey, Ashford Castle.

Carrick Hse. Review
We stayed in Carrick Hse in August 2014 and had a truly wonderful holiday. The house has a special character and has a feeling of a home rather than a holiday rental. The facilities in Carrick Hse are excellent, the kitchen a chef's dream. Breakfast on the veranda with a magical view of Lough Corrib, or watch the sun set from the beautifully designed sunroom. Our children enjoyed rowing on the lake, (very reasonable rental rates close to the house) Lovely house for an active holiday or simply to relax in the house or at the lake shore across the road.

Wonderful house
The house was just as advertised - only better. It was extremely well fitted - everything we needed was there, and more. The kitchen was a dream and has a long table which seats 12 .
The garden was ideal for the younger members of the family to play in and the wood with a stream running through it, at the back of the house gave great enjoyment. The outlook over the lake was lovely and we all had a wonderful holiday
About the host
Hosted by Nial Dunne
The house has been with the same family since the 1930s. The 5 Brothers who share the ownership have spent many family holidays at the house and decided to keep the house on because of its unique character and location. Now they and their families and friends often take holidays at the house and they have many friends locally. The house has recently been refurbished and modernised but retains its warmth and character so whether it is family football on the front lawn, catching trout in the small stream, building dens and campfires in the woodland at the back, exploring the lake and islands or touring the beauty of Connemara and the beaches, this is a wonderful place to stay.
Why they chose this property
This is a family house and has been with the same family since the 1930's. It was bought originally as a fishing lodge. There is also some history to the houses that were previously on the same site. While the area is fairly remote and beautiful, it is less than an hour to the dynamic city of Galway and about an hour from Knock airport. So the beauty and remoteness of the area are now within easy reach.
What makes this property unique
The property is set in a wonderful location looking over Lough Corrib, with its own lake foreshore and surrounded by acres of woodland and garden and with mountain streams running through the garden and down to the lake. There is a mountain at the back and an old road with fabulous walks and views looking to the mountains in the West. It is however conveniently located with villages about 2 miles away in either direction. Cornamona has a grocery shop and a pub. Clonbur has a mini supermarket (with an ATM), and several pubs and restaurants. The city of Galway offers a great deal and is less than an hour away. Going West from the house you are immediately into the wild and beautiful lakes and mountains scenery, and fabulous beaches of Connemara and the West of Ireland.
