About this property

Little Castle In The Heart of Gardiner

Welcome to our historic 2,200 sq ft homestead, the second ever built in Gardiner in 1895! Crafted with hand quarried rock and a distinctive stick frame, our home boasts a castle-like turret that sets it apart. Fully remodeled in 2015, it seamlessly combines the charm of the old West with the comforts of modern living.

As you step into our abode, you'll find yourself surrounded by the tranquility of our front yard flower garden, a favorite haunt of local wildlife. To ensure your stay is seamless, we provide valuable information via email, including packing essentials, optimal times to witness the marvel of Old Faithful, scenic drives, recent animal sightings in the Lamar area, and recommendations for guided tours. For your convenience, we offer a spacious garage at the rear of the house, a rare find during Gardiner's bustling seasons.

Inside, our two-story home features three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The main floor hosts the master bedroom with a plush king-size bed and a luxurious custom steam shower for unwinding after your day's adventures. Upstairs, two more bedrooms await, one with a queen-size bed and a day bed with trundle, and another with two cozy twin beds. Each bedroom is equipped with new window air conditioners for added comfort during warm spells, offering serene views of either Emigrant Peak or the picturesque backyard where elk and deer often roam.

Relish moments of relaxation on our front porch swing, soaking in panoramic views of Electric Peak and Yellowstone's rolling hills, where elk, deer, bison, antelope, and occasional bears or wolves may grace your sight. Our fenced backyard beckons with mature trees, blooming flowers, a barbecue grill, and a patio perfect for al fresco dining.

The heart of our home, the kitchen, is fully equipped with gourmet essentials like olive oil, vinegar, and spices, alongside modern appliances including a dishwasher, dual-oven range, microwave, blender, mixer, slow cooker, and coffee maker. A breakfast bar and round dining table offer cozy spots for meals and gatherings.

Entertainment options abound, from a 44” smart flat screen TV with wireless WIFI so you can log into your account and watch your favorite shows, and a treasure trove of books, games, and cards. For added convenience, we provide a washer and dryer with laundry detergent.

As professional wildlife photographers and videographers with two decades of experience in Yellowstone, we're thrilled to share our passion with you. Enjoy complimentary access to our wildlife viewing guide, meticulously crafted to help you spot the park's most magnificent creatures, especially in our favorite hotspot, Lamar Valley.

Beyond our doorstep lies Gardiner, a quaint town brimming with character. Explore local cafes, a grocery store just a block away, and a plethora of outdoor adventures, from whitewater rafting with Montana Whitewater to horseback riding and fishing excursions with nearby outfitters and guides.

Your Yellowstone adventure awaits at our doorstep. Book your stay now and discover the magic of the West with us!

Cozy historic house near Yellowstone park

We enjoyed staying in this historic house very much. So close to Yellowstone National Park. The house is equipped with just about everything we need. It is like staying in our own home. Moreover, I especially enjoyed looking at the artistic works of J Wantulok. 👍

Great place to stay in a great town.

Unique and comfortable home right in the heart of Gardiner MT. The place is comfortable and roomy for a group of three. It's just a short walk to the entrance to Yellowstone. Great town and beautiful location.

Great place

The house was really nice, but it was on a busy street which I was not expecting, but it was fine. The view across the street is spectacular with mountains in the background. During a few early evenings of our stay at large elk was eating grass in the next-door neighbor’s yard! That proved to be very entertaining !! The house was very clean thankfully, but the beds unfortunately were not very comfortable, this is excluding the twin beds, which were the most comfortable of all the beds in the house. The master bedroom pillows were comfortable, but none of the other pillows were.. it would’ve been nice to know that they have dish soap, laundry soap, dishwasher soap, bath soap, shampoo, and toilet paper provided, we purchased all of this, but we would not have had we known that. Also, I wish there were more towels provided, bath towels, specifically. We could’ve used more for a family of four. Wonderful stay!

Charming house in a great location

We had a great stay in the Little Castle! Gardiner is a nice small town at the north entrance of Yellowstone. This house is close to restaurants, shops and a grocery store. Very clean, had everything we needed after our days exploring Yellowstone. Thanks for a great stay!

Location, Location, Location

Great location - some might complain about being on the main street but by 10pm - there is limited to no traffic so didn't phase me sleeping. We used as a home base to hike NW Yellowstone - worked our extremely well. Nice old charm feel to the house and the steam shower makes me want to install one at home! Mark responded to most comments/questions within hours - great to work with. An elk joined us two evenings on the side of the house as I was enjoying a beer rocking on the front porch swing. The A/C units weren't great but it was in the 70s/low 80s when we were there, so limited need and maybe that had something to do with it. We'd certainly rent again if back in the area.

Great Place to Stay for Yellowstone

We used this house as our base for exploring Yellowstone. It was a clean and comfortable place to relax after a day in the park and recharge for the next day. Gardiner is a great little town. We could walk to everything easily from this location. The house is as described in the listing. 5/5 stars. Would stay here again.

Charming Castle in main Gardiner MT road in town

3 bedroom older build home with well kept woodwork inside, updated appliances, comfortable beds, and window AC (late June stay so cooler evenings, nights, and mornings). We had easy access to Yellowstone so enjoyed 3 days visiting the park. Street parking was available we parked Wagoneer on, looked like it would fit in garage off an alley but we chose not to use it. One early call from owner, really did not need any more comms. We did have trouble finding coffee filters, kept right next to coffee maker in container, had label but missed it initially. We’d stay here again.

Cool place!

Great, unique place in the center of town. Restaurants, groceries wete within easy walking distance. I had a bit of trouble unlocking the door because of my misunderstanding. I messaged the host and he called me within a minute or two and helped me. Side note: There was a female elk hanging around across the alley from he house. She gave birth while we were there. So lovely to see the new calf!

EXECELLANT choice

4 adults stayed in this house. It was in a PERFECT location and super cute. It had everything we needed. It is the 2nd oldest house in town but completly updated. The home is decorated with 1 of a kind art, coffee table, king headboard, etc. Lots of wood but not over done. 3 bedroom 2 bathrooms. Perfect for our family of 4. There are 2 bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. Primary and 1 bathroom downstairs. The hosts were SUPER friendly wnd even included a guide on the table for us. There were elk walking past the house EVERY day of our 7 day stay. We could have asked for better accommodations. Nice quiet little back yard with BBQ & a porch swing in front.

Wonderful property in the heart of Gardiner!

We really enjoyed our stay at this property! It is right in the center of Gardiner and convenient to everything. The grocery store is a few hundred feet away. Primary parking is on the street. We had no problem with it, even with two vehicles. There were always spaces available. The property also features a very large garage, but we didn't end up using it because the on-street parking was easy and convenient. The house itself is charming and was comfortable for our group of six. The view from the front porch was gorgeous, and I spent time just sitting out on the porch swing watching the world go by. We could see elk and pronghorns up on the mountain, and the elk occasionally came down into Gardiner and strolled down the streets. I highly recommend this place!

Beautiful Montana home

The house was perfect. Main floor primary bedroom with walk in shower was perfect for my mom. Upstairs bedrooms had plenty of space. Upstairs bathroom was adequate- not roomy but has everything you need. House was filledwith lots of extras: paper towels, spices , shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand and dish soap. Lovely place to stay.

Most enjoyable stay in a truly historic house!

This house is iconic. Step back in time with all the modern conveniences in a house that is right next door to Yellowstone. Having a garage is a great advantage in Gardiner where parking can be tight. A quiet and secluded rear patio was a great gathering spot in the evening. Fantastic week!

Great location near north entrance of Yellowstone Park

Was a wonderful property that has been renovated and has a very well appointed kitchen, great views of the mountains around Gardiner, and lovely backyard with grill. Everything we need to have a relaxing time. Near restaurants and park entrance. However, if you want to cook/grill they have everything you need and the grocery store is within walking distance. They even have a steam shower, great after a day of exploring the park!!! Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Cute Stone castle on the main st right outside Yellowstone north entrance.

I really liked the close location to Yellowstone. We could walk to the arch entrance and were super close to restaurants, tours, gifts shops and Mammoth Springs. The kitchen had everything we needed. There was smart TV in the living room (we needed to shift furniture around a lil so we could all see the TV). The downstairs master bedroom is really nice and the downstairs shower was amazing. My family members stayed upstairs and felt it was outdated and needed a remodel. The wood flooring was old and uneven and the decor reminded me of my grandma's in the 70s. The 2 twins can't really go together to make a bigger bed like we planned. There was no nightstand in that room so we borrowed a wobbly table and doll light from the other bedroom so my mom had a nightstand. The upstairs shower was real tight with a small folding shower door and they felt there was little room for toiletries. The upstairs they used to sleep and went downstairs for comfort. We all sat out on the front porch every morning and evening and loved it. We watched people and animals walk down the street and enjoyed the ambiance a lot. We could see elk on the hillside. The back porch was private with a grill and lots of lush beautiful plants and a cute bunny rabbit. The garage was huge but we never used it as there was good parking on the street in front of the house. Overall we enjoyed our stay; the price is right, the location is great and our family loved our Yellowstone trip.

Family trip to Yellowstone

We had a great time at the property. It’s right on the main street in town, close to everything. It’s less than a mile from the Roosevelt Arch, and we watched the elk on the hill across the river from the front porch. It was a perfect place for our family of 7.

Wonderful home, perfect location and Elk! What more could we ask for?

Loved our stay at the Little Castle! Perfectly location for entering Yellowstone, and walking around Gardiner. Comfy beds, nice back yard and front porch. House is fully equipped for all of our needs. Bonus-- upon leaving early one morning we were delayed at the front porch by a Elk nursing her calf on the sidewalk.

About the host

Host profile image
Let me introduce ourselves, Mark & Wendy. We are a new retired couple. We have lived in Bozeman (75 miles away) almost all our lives and wanted a second house down south. Our south is Gardiner, a paradise because we love to photograph nature and animals. We purchased this wonderful home in 2006. We remodeled our home ourselves. We took out seven tons of lath and plaster and revamped our home for the 21st century. Jim, Wendy's father was a wildlife and landscape artist and videographer. Judy, Wendy's mother owned and ran a small grocery store (Joe's Parkway) by Montana State University for 33 years. She took it from a college store that sold a lot of beer (the most beer per capita West of the Mississippi, in early 90's) to a gourmet market with the best cheese, wines, chocolates, and groceries in town. We love spending time in YP. You will see some of Wendy's parents work displayed throughout our home.

Why they chose this property

Great location, easy to walk around town. Close to the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park. (about 5 blocks) Our back yard is fenced in and provides a calm setting to relax.
We also have a swing on the front porch that you can enjoy and see the mountains and animals that roam the hills of the park.

What makes this property unique

We fell in love with our home at first sight. It had so much character. We had a wonderful time refinishing the inside. It is a charming home, both inside and out.
