Below is an outline of the rooms in the house, as this is often something which guests are keen to know before their stay.
On the ground floor there is a large dining room/entrance hall with seating for 12 people plus a woodburner which is lovely during the winter, a large sitting room complete with comfy sofas, TV, DVDs, wifi etc – there is also a bar tucked into the corner, which is a throwback to the house's past as a hotel! There is also a boot/coat room off the kitchen which is perfect for walking boots etc. Towards the rear of the property there is an outhouse/utility/storage room which is great for muddy wellies, storing beach gear etc. Off this room is the back yard which has plenty of tables and chairs for guests as well as a BBQ with complimentary charcoal in the summer months. Downstairs there are also 2 extra toilets which are the bathrooms from when the house used to be a hotel/pub and are useful if you don't fancy a trip upstairs!
Upstairs there are 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms split over two floors in the following layout:
Bedroom 1 – Master bedroom with four poster double bed + ensuite with bath/shower
Bedroom 2 – Bunk bedroom (shared bathroom)
Bedroom 3 – Single bedroom (shared bathroom)
Bedroom 4 – Double bedroom with ensuite shower room

We welcome up to 2 well behaved dogs (please message us if you wish to bring more than 2 dogs). We ask that our doggy rules are met: no dogs on soft furnishings/ no dogs upstairs / have a bit of a hoover or sweep up if hair is getting a bit of a build up and clean up any doggie do dos outside. It’s a wonderful area for dogs - beautiful walks on the fore shore or up the tranquil river Gwaun justs few yards away and most beaches are dog friendly (except Whitesands).
We hope this helps explain our space for you :)

Quirky, characterful place, comfortably furnished, very well-equipped. Perfect for a family get-together holiday. Well situated for an amble down the quay or a longer coastal walk. Young and old all enjoyed their time there.
As a group of mature walkers we found this property perfect for our needs. Well located and appointed for large groups (we were 10)

Thank you Richard for your lovely comments, we are so pleased that you enjoyed the house and have taken the time to feed that back. Glad the house was found suitable for a large group of 10. We do try to make it as well equipped and comfortable as we can, even for larger groups. Thank you again and hope to host you again in the future. We hope you enjoyed the welcome pack too. Many thanks
Great place to eat together and meet together.Stairs bit quirky and although we had a an older age range, folks were pretty fit so not a problem, but could be for the more infirm. Lovely location with harbour nearby!
Thanks very much, we had a fab time!
Lovely quirky historical property, well equipped and spacious. However i wouldnt reccomend for small children, due to many obstacles. More suitable for 5 years upwards.Water pressure on hot tap in kitchen not great. Overall a good stay.
The property lived up to our expectations in terms of space and facilities. From here we travelled all around beautiful Pembrokeshire and looked forward to returning back to base. Communication with the owners was fantastic. We were contacted the day before our arrival to let us know that we had an early check in and also a late check out.
Situated right on the quay with allocated parking, this is the ideal holiday base to explore the area. Walks literally on your doorstep, bus stop close by or make your own way by car.
Very well appointed with everything we needed, we were very comfortable . Thank you

It is a fantastic spot and we put a lot of effort into the facilities and housekeeping, so it is great to have your feedback. Thank you for leaving the house so tidy and we hope to welcome you back x
What a wonderful cottage, clean and lots of 'extras' left to help. Coolboxes, picnic basket, ice blocks, buckets, spades etc as well as a welcome bottle of wine, scones etc. Lovely spacious rooms. Great base for so many places to visit

Thank you so much for the lovely review Debra - we are delighted that you loved the house. We think it is a WONDERFUL spot so glad you agree! It really does lend itself to a good old family holiday! Glad we were also able to help you when you locked yourself out - all part of the service;) Thank you so much for leaving the house so clean and tidy - it is really appreciated. We would host you again in a heartbeat - Hoping to host you again soon. Richenda and Nick
The house is in a great location and is incredibly spacious. The bed in the master bedroom was beautifully comfortable and I loved some of the quirkiness and old furniture. There are parts of the house though that need refurbishment and ripping out especially in the living room.

Fantastic to hear you enjoyed the spaciousness of the house - it is a large space ideal for families. Also great to hear you found the Superking master bed comfortable - it is new so glad it was appreciated. We are always updating the house.
With the house being part of the Pembrokeshire Coastal National Park, Grade II listed and under the jurisdiction of Cadw (who are very rigorous) we are very restricted on what we can change at the house as it is one of the most historic buildings in Lower Town. As such the layout of the bar in the sitting room (from when it was a fisherman's Inn) which is the area you are referring to - so we are unable to change this.
We do upgrade as much as we can sympathetically but we do cherish the fact it is an historic, period property and full of original features. Most guests do appreciated this and the bar is a popular feature!
Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback, which is appreciated, but I think we will have to side with Cadw rather than your suggestions on this occasion ;)
Loved the house .

Family holiday
dark furniture and carpets, giving the overall impression of gloomy! The lounge and top front bedroom are subjected to vehicle headlights. Shutters or Venetian blinds needed. Kitchen well stocked, curtains around units need updating. Lovely courtyard and the two master bedrooms . Overall, needs updating.

So sorry that you did not enjoy the decor of the house. We usually get lots of positive comments about the antiques. As you can see from the great reviews we usually receive. We love the muted greys and more historic colours, but maybe they were not to your taste. I know your week was VERY windy and wet, so maybe that contributed to your low mood. We are constantly updating the house, with new carpets fitted just before your stay. So it is disappointing to hear you feel it needs updating. I will certainly investigate the kitchen curtains as we do take our guests' experience really seriously. Maybe a case of the wrong horse for the wrong course on this one. But glad you enjoyed the courtyard and other parts :)
This is one of those places that you almost don’t want to tell anyone else about, because it’s just so good! The location is perfect for a relaxing holiday. it’s a lovely walk around the harbour in the evening, perfect for a bracing swim in the morning, an excellent crabbing location to keep the kids entertained and lots of stunning beaches just a quick drive away, with a handy cafe to stop in at just a stones throw from the house.
The house is perfect for an extended family, with everything you could need, including the best board games selection we’ve seen in a long time. It is kitted out perfectly, with lots of thought and space for everyone and has a lovely unique character. The bar was a particular favourite feature, as was the private courtyard outside space. There’s a comprehensive information pack that tells you everything you might need to know about the house and the area.
We couldn’t have found a better location and can’t wait to find an excuse to come back again!

We love it that you loved it. Thank you for taking the time to review us and we look forward to hosting you again soon. xx
Really nice house with lots of character in a great location
We were a group of four couples with children ranging in age from 8 to under 1. We really enjoyed our stay. The house is a great building with a lot of original features and was a great base to explore fishguard and beyond.
There was enough space for all of us to have dinner together and hang out in the lounge after a day of exploring. The beds were very comfortable there were plenty of toilets.
We would definitely stay again.
We had a lovely long weekend with family and four legged friends at Dians arms! The house is very homey and has everything you could possibly need. Only issue we had was that the listing stated that towels are provided, however on getting there we found out they no longer do, however upon calling this was quickly rectified and the housekeeper brought us all the towels we could need. Lovely area for Costal walks.
Thank you for a lovely, peaceful weekend at gorgeous lower Fishguard.
We arrived to a warm and delightful property, warm and inviting.
The quaintness of the property was charming and it’s location to local inns, walks and shops was wonderful.
We were a large family group and found our rooms comfortable and enough space within the property not to be getting in the way.
I have not given 5 stars only because the oven needs new dials and we had to guess the temperature of both ovens which could have been a disaster considering we ate in each night cooking roasts etc.
More tea towels is advisable, less cobwebs and I’d encourage the cooking utensils to be put in a cupboard that can close!
Despite these minor observations I would recommend Dinas Arms to one and all.
Great property in Lower Fishguard that easily accommodated 12 people .Close to cafes, pubs & harbour
Great property to accommodate a large group of people . Plenty of room in living room and dining room and kitchen fully equipped . The original bar in the living room was the star of the show. Would definitely stay here again . Thank you for a great stay x
Our first time in Lower Town, Fishguard, what an excellent location - convenient to get to activities for the kids and great restaurant just a short drive away. The Boat club did a BBQ on the first Sunday that we were there ( 1/2 Lobster £12 - so fresh and delicious - you must try this, the atmosphere was great with some live music thrown in for free..) Well appointed kitchen with lots of utensils. The House is clean but could do with updating in some areas.
The information sheet provided by the owner was spot on and gave us loads of activities and restaurants to try and saved time trying to find them for ourselves. Boot room was very useful as was the crabbing nets. would definitely go back for another family break.
There were no towels or tea towels. We thought that we should have brought our own so ordered some from amazon. On returning home and checking paperwork it appears they should have been supplied but didn’t cause any detriment to the overall holiday experience.

Hi Ian
I am sorry - there should have been tea towels left so that was a mistake on our part - apologies. If you had notified us we could have sent some down within the hour. We also provide oven gloves and bathmats - so I hope they were there! With reference to the bath towels, we don't supply these as standard and do clearly state so on the checkin information. However, we are happy to provide if needed and if guests have mis-read the information or are travelling from abroad / especially request - so we do have a full set ready just in case. Again, if you had let us know we could have had towels there within the hour.
I am glad that this did not impact on your holiday though, and that you enjoyed your stay and the beauty of Pembrokeshire.
Many thanks for your visit!
Fabulous location for beaches and walking. The locals were very friendly and we enjoyed our night's in the ship inn! We were very lucky to have beautiful weather too!

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay Tessa. The house is indeed quirky - as a former fisherman's inn it certainly has some history.
We are also super pleased you found us helpful!
We hope to welcome you back soon as you left it in great condition. So many thanks!

A quirky property with lots of space for us all. Two large dining tables plus sunny outside tables, seating, bbq and partial views of quay. Living room with part of original bar, large TV and three big old sofas with cushions and throws. A tad dusty which goes hand in hand with old furnishings I suppose. Kitchen well equipped and lots of royal mugs and glasses and plates etc, Bedrooms all ok, plenty of loos, even two urinals!, bath and showers. Great position with 3 parking places but very noisy with traffic as house straddles busy junction. Weather was perfect, river and coastal walks from property. Easy walk into Fishgard, brilliant fish and chips in fishgard, definitely worth the walk! And fab lobster salads and crab sandwiches in cafe along the quay from the house.
I thoroughly recommend staying here.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at the house. It is a great spot for a family holiday. Also pleased that you enjoyed eating out around the area - North Pembrokeshire has a lot to offer.
I am sorry if it was 'a tad dusty' we have reviewed this but without making excuses I think it is because it has been such hot weather and lots of dust outside etc. However, the cleaning team have had a good blitz and sorted that. I hope we can welcome you back for another stay!

Fabulous for a large group
An amazing house in a fabulous location. The house offers plenty of room for people to enjoy each other’s company yet not feel on top of each other. Everything you need for a home away from home is provided, even tea, coffee and sugar were full. Fishguard is a small town but has some lovely shops and the local coop is more than enough for essentials. Highly recommend for large family or as with us two families travelling together.

About the host
Hosted by Richenda Hine
We are Nick and Richenda Hine, the owners of The Dinas Arms. We have been coming to Pembrokeshire since the mid-90s when we bought The Dinas Arms. Richenda is Welsh and mighty patriotic! We both have a passion for the area and have taken great pride in seeing Pembrokeshire develop into such an amazing destination over the last 20 years. The plethora of restaurants, galleries, great foodie shops and things to do in the area have increased 10-fold. It's great to see that Pembrokeshire really is the "New Cornwall" (but better, of course...). We have been letting the Dinas Arms since 1996, but for the last few years we have kept the house just for family, only starting to re-let with Owners Direct in August of 2012.
Why they chose this property
We bought the house way back in 1996 after falling in love with Lower Town which we thought was the most beautiful place (it is one of the most photographed harbours in the UK). The poor old Dinas Arms had fallen on hard times and was standing derelict as the former fisherman's inn of the village. We could not believe that such a big house in the centre of the famous village (rumour has it that Richard Burton drank here during the filming of Under Milkwood...) was standing empty as such an eysore and acted fast! We took pity on the old hulk and with the help of some great local builders we sympathetically transformed the house with love, care and attention into a warm and cosy home from home. Of course the house has been updated and refurbished subsequently to keep it up to date – most recently in June 2015 we have refurbished both the twin room & double room ensuites, which now boast travertine tiling with modern showers, W/C, heated towel rails and sinks.
What makes this property unique
A great feature is the large storage area off the kitchen which has outside access, great for storing outward bound equipment. Richenda has a keen interest in interior design and antiques, so we hope you will agree that this is reflected in the decor of the house. She's a keen cook, so the kitchen is well equipped, whist Nick makes sure that the original bar feature of the Dinas Arms which is still functioning is fully stocked with glasses and vintage pub finds. We're sure you will like playing 'barman' with the old optics as much as our friends and family have over the years. But if that is not your scene, rest assured that there are lots of books and DVD's to keep guests occupied. A complimentary bottle of wine and flowers on arrival & handsoap in all bathrooms are provided for guests. Additionally, for Christmas bookings, we provide a fully decorated Christmas tree to add to the festivities.
